Im in the proces of making 1 big database.
So if I have imported all the hands from my various databases into 1 database, and I only "Update Cache", so no cluster, no vacuum and no analyze,
will that result in a faster HUD anyways?
If I cluster etc too afterwards will the HUD be even faster then?
If I cluster etc afterwards should I 'Update Cache' again?
I understand doing the 4 at the same time is best and I will do that, but just curious how the housekeeping works.
With regards to clustering and updating the cache it doesn't really matter what order you do it in. After a cluster you should vacuum/analyze but those are, thankfully, fairly quick.
So you can feel free to c/v/a and then update the cache later if that works best for you.
Clustering rebuilds the database into a format that makes it return results to queries much faster. Vacuuming reclaims lost space from the rebuild, and analyzing stores data about the rebuild to further improve query time.
Updating the cache creates a holdem_cache table and for each player stores the common summations that PT3 would need to do in order to get stats (how many hands they've played, how many times they've VP$IP, etc) so that the stats can get retrieved much faster since they don't need to be constantly recalculated on the fly.
I hope that clears things up for you.
