Please attach the PokerTracker.log and PokerTrackerHud.log files to a support request before restarting PT3 after a crash and we will look into it. (Note: these files are only written if logging is enabled. If logging wasn't enabled, please click Configure --> Options --> Logging Enabled and then restart PT3 and it will be logging after that.)

ty for the reply if logging was not enabled i lust play more hands until the problem occurs again then attach the log yes?

hey my HUD for PT3 has been working fine, but yesterday the HUD font just got bigger than it usually is, and now the HUD won't come up at all, and i have "start HUD automatically" checked and everything. has this happened to anyone else? what should i do to make it work again? I've tried restarting PT3 and restarting my computer etc. a bunch of times and nothing works

I can't see how uploading the whole log file would help, the only line that matters is the last one I pasted (and even that doesn't seem too helpful). I didn't have the HUD on. It was auto importing observed hands.

Whew, glad to see other reports of the HUD not coming up or coming up after a number of hands. I've had my HUD stats show up as late as 67 hands, 25 hands, 12 hands and as early as the first hand as of yesterday. Then of course then I get stuff like the stats stop working on occasion when moved to a new table in a tourney. Did the standard stuff like rename my layout file but a new file was not created. (on Stars, Beta 13)

Yes. And if it doesn't happen again, that's not the worst thing in the world, right?

Try renaming your Layouts.pt3 file to something else and see if when PT3 recreates the default layout if that one works. If so, please attach the Layouts.pt3 you were using to a support ticket. If that doesn't help, please enable logging, start up the HUD and let it run for 10 hands or so on a single table, then shut it down and submit the PokerTracker.log and PokerTrackerHud.log to our support system with an explanation of what's going on and we'll figure it out.

Because these access violations are tricky and it might be a series of things that have to occcur before they appear. We thought we found and fixed most of these in Beta 13, it sounds like we may have missed a couple. The more data we have the easier it is for us to figure out exactly what is causing it. A large number of people aren't experiencing this error on PartyPoker so there has to be something specific going on in your case and the more we know about your case the easier it is to figure out which piece it is that's causing this issue.

If you could please try renaming your Layouts.pt3 file and seeing if that helps, and if it doesn't, enable logging and submit the PokerTracker.log and PokerTrackerHud.log files to the support system we can try and track down why this is going on. It shouldn't be happening; stats should show up after 1 complete hand finishes. The more information we have though the easier it is to figure out why things aren't happening as they should.
06-16-2008 , 03:17 PM
I don't want to sound like a prick or anything but the constant **** of saying rename the layouts etc is getting annoying. Seriously, i have no idea what your alpha testers accomplish. I am still ultimately going to purchase and use pt3 but this is just to god damn stressful. How can someone who made PAHUD which was awesome have such a hard time making another HUD.
06-16-2008 , 03:33 PM
Right now we're trying to figure out what, among the layouts, is causing problems. It's pretty clear from some responses that certain things are. Once we figure out what it is -- and we will figure out what it is -- and fix it, this won't be an issue anymore. We also do intend to add functionality to export layouts and import layouts and have a much nicer interface for that sort of thing. However, the unexpected instability of the HUD took a lot longer to sort out than we were expecting. When the HUD was otherwise unstable and crashing it was very hard to figure out which bits of the layout were problematic. However, now that the HUD is (for most people, for the most part) stable, we can pinpoint what among the layouts is causing problems.

I assure you, I would much rather have a better answer to give you. If I knew what stats were causing what problems in what places I wouldn't hold that information back.

Please try and be patient, we are working through the information we receive as fast as we can and we are trying diligently to resolve these issues.

I have had nothing but problems for the last two weeks trying to get PT3 working.

I opened it and the database couldn't connect.

then I downloaded beta13.... couldn't access anything.. so i uninstalled build 2 and the Beta 13, and reinstalled beta 13.

now I open PT3, and a box comes up, "configure postgreSDL server"
Server: localhost
database userL postgres
port: <portnumber>
password: <password>

There are two options... connect and cancel.
*checked all the info against what I used when i signed up with PT3 the first time. It is the same....

I press <connect> and get this message:
"unable to connect to database. Please check the configuration" <ok>

it goes back to the server/database etc screen again. I try pressing <cancel>
and get;
"are you sure you want to cancel? Pokertracker won't be able to operate without PostgreSWL installed and configured". YES/NO

yes - exits PT3
no - go back to server/database screen

so.. vicious circle... i would really appreciate not wasting the last 27 days of my trial period!!!!

edit - originally.. when I downloaded build2.. it did work fine for a while... then.. nothing about 2 weeks ago.

I'm trying to make stats that show how often I win the pot when I call a bet on the river getting x:1 odds, but it's not working.

First of all, I can't find a facing river bet stat.. only a facing river c-bet stat and facing river donk bet stat. What's it called when the turn checks through and someone bets? Is there no stat for this?

I tried doing it anyway with just river c-bets, and I'm pretty sure I wrote it right, but the stats literally just don't show up. I add them to a blank report, and the report remains blank. I add them to the report in the general tab, and the report works fine but doesn't include the new stat:

Did you enter a width for the new Stat? That's something I forgot a few times, and the column didn't show up on the report then, although I could select it for my reports.

Here is a screenshot of a standard stat, to show you where you can find the Width editbox.

Thanks, that was it.

Edit: Still need clarification on the river bet vs. river c-bet/donk bet thing.

Also, can I edit the tool tips on the HUD?

Sigh, this custom stat thing is giving me a headache, I must be doing something wrong.

I'm trying to create some kind of fish scoring system.

I created a new column called "fish_score", I gave it the expression "id_limit". Then I created a new Stat called "Fish Score" and gave it the following Value Expression: "fish_score". So far all good, all players in my database now get a "Fish Score" of "1".

Now I want to try to manipulate this score when a player meets certain criteria, for example, I want to change a players' score from "1" to "0.5" if he has a VP$IP between "0" and "10".

I tried doing this by changing the Stat Value Expression into something like this:

IF #VP$IP >= 0 AND #VP$IP < 10 THEN (fish_score) * 0.5

Yet it keeps saying the Value expression is NOT valid! I've tried numerous variations on the example above, no luck so far . Could any1 help me out here?

Thanks!

PostgreSQL is the database server PokerTracker 3 uses to store its data. Since you can't store/retreive data without a database, you must configure one. Since you had a prior version installed, you should have PostgreSQL still on your computer. Make sure you do and it's running by going to Start --> Programs --> PostgreSQL --> Start Service

The default values are:
Server: localhost
Port: 5432
User: postgres
Password: dbpass

However you can disable the password checking by following the steps of this password.

Yes, we're going to start getting to do the to-do list (we hope) next week.

A "river bet" is any first bet made on the river. A "river c-bet" is a bet on the river following up a raise or bet on the turn. A "river donk bet" is a river bet when you were not the last aggressor on the turn and you are out of position (that is, the guy did not check to you so you bet, you just bet first). Hope that clears things up?

Unfortunately not at this time. It is on our to-do list, though.

Assuming you are in Holdem Cash Player Statistics, what you actually want is if[ (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 < 10, 0.5, 1].

From your description it looks like you were looking at the custom report documentation not the custom statistic documentation. These work quite a bit differently. See the custom stats guide and take a look at the database schema if you want to do anything complicated; it lists what every column in the database is.

ETA: You can also see this thread where I walk through creating a very simple custom stat, as it might help.

Thanks for the quick reply, yes I was in Holdem Cash Player Statistics but you're suggested code also doesn't seem to work, still says the code is not valid .

I'll take a look at those links you posted.

From looking at this response without reading the PT3 documentation, it looks to me like this would the same style if else statements as MS Excel. So if you are looking for some examples try googling excel tutorials.
if[ (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 < 10, 0.5, 1]

I just copied and pasted it into my custom statistics box and it is valid for me;
Code:
if[ (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 < 10, 0.5, 1]
spacing does matter though so maybe putting it this way will work better?
06-17-2008 , 10:28 AM
Yes thank you, I did a copy paste on your code and it worked, must have had a typo or something...
06-17-2008 , 10:45 AM
Ok thank you, i did a copy paste on your code and it worked, must've been a typo...

But now I'm trying to build somewhat further on your code...again...no succes. I want to give players with a VPIP of 10 or more a score of 2, I tried this:

if[ (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 < 10, 0.5, (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 >= 10, 2]

and this:

if[ (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 < 10, 0.5, (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 >= 10, 2, 1]

and this:

if[ (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 < 10, 0.5]
if[ (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 >= 10, 2]

and this:

if[ (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 < 10, 0.5, 1]
if[ (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 >= 10, 2, 1]

And then some more...

None worked . As you can see I'm a noob at this but figuring out how this works is very important to me

After I get this code right I want to add other stats as well, such as PFR. Could you give me an example of how to give a player with vpip between 20 and 40 and a pfr between 5 and 10 a score of 5 and a player with the same vpip but with a pfr between 15 and 20 a score of 3. I feel I can get everything I want out of a code for that.

Thanks again for your time!
06-17-2008 , 11:15 AM
Let me explain the syntax, maybe that will help, along with the example:

if[ condition, then, else ]
so if the condition is true, it does the thing in the second field, if not it does the thing in the turn field.

So what you want is:

Code:
if[ (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 < 10, 0.5, 2]
because in this case there are only two options: it's < 10 or it's >= 10. So if it's < 10 you get .5 if it's >= 10 you get 2.

If you wanted to do some other test though you can nest if statements. For example, this:

Code:
if[ cnt_hands < 100, 0, if[ (cnt_vpip / cnt_hands) * 100 < 10, 0.5, 2]]
says "if the player has less than 100 hands, give them a value of zero, otherwise see what their VPIP is, and if it's less than 10, give them a value of .5, otherwise give them a value of 2".

These nested if statements can get very complex, which is one reason why you might want to consider looking into doing this either as a custom report or a whole bunch of small custom statistics that get summed up later. If you did val_fish_list_vpip and nexted if statements to assign some value based on VPIP, then did val_fish_list_af and that had a value based on aggression, and did some more, then did val_fish_list_total and summed them all up, that might make it a lot more readable.

Good luck.

Great thanks! I think I should be able to figure this out now, everything you wrote (including the codes) made perfect sense!
06-17-2008 , 12:46 PM
Like i said. Google some excel examples of IF and IFELSE. you are basically looking to build a decision tree. So look it up real quick lol.

I grabbed a link. Shows the nested ifs
