It's database software. Many different programs use it, so you might already have it on your computer. You probably do not have it on your computer because if you did you would probably know what it was.

It's a DBMS (database management system). PT2 used either Access or PostgreSQL. PostgreSQL >> Access in terms of performance, size limit, robustness, etc. All of the next-gen trackers will use PostgreSQL (except for maybe one that uses MySQL). All of the tracking software stores the hand histories/data/stats in a database. PostgreSQL is just what it sounds like: it's the software that manages the database.

Generally, if someone has to ask what PostgreSQL is, it's almost a given that they don't have it installed on their computer already, which is why I said to download the installed packaged with PostgreSQL. I guess in the future, you can download the upgrades without it.

Please attach a few of these hand histories to the Support system so that this can be investigated.

NP Deezie. Honestly, I think they should just have a single installer that checks if Postgres is already installed on the computer. If it isn't, then it should prompt the user and download/install Postgres. I don't think there's a need to package the entire Postgres install file with every installer, just download/install when necessary. This would clear up a lot of the confusion. Plus, I hate having to look for the "With Postgres" or "Without Postres" everytime I download an update.

I was looking at buying PT3 as a backup but the whole project looks like a trainwreck

I am away on business and because I didn't want to go through hassle of getting another registration code for PT2 for the laptop I took with me I just installed PT3 and I am using that as my soul means for Tracking and HUD usage. I really don't have much a problem with it. I usually play 12 tales and the HUD struggles at that point but it's still usable. It can handle 10 tables no problem sometimes 11 but I start seeing issues at 12 . Like I said it's still usuable.

I did have a problem with stats not appearing on the HUD but I unchecked the box for show only stats for current linit and the stats appeared.

PT3 is not a trainwreck at all...at least not for me. I'm using a cluncky old laptop and really don't have any issues. The reports feature and making my own stats kicks my ass but I think I'll figure it our eventually.

I'm not sure what you are talkng about when you say getting PT3 as a backup. Why do you need a backup? If you don't need the extra feaures then don't mess with it. However, if you are a serious poker player, you will probably want to get it so why not download, try it and get used to it.

i received this error after restarting my computer and xp decided it wanted to run a chkdsk where it found (during stage 2, verifying indexes) a corrupt index called "player" from index $I30 from file 88657 and deleted it.

i'm assuming this is the issue, is my DB now destroyed? it took 30 hours to import

edit: since u can't read the error:

"Unable to execute query: SELECT id_polayer, id_site, player_name, valicon FROM player WHERE id_player > 0 AND id_player_alias = 0 AND id_player in ( SELECT DISTINCT homdem_table_session_summary.id"

that's all i can read.

Sorry if this is a basic question and/or has been asked before since I'm a PT n00b.

Is there a way to merge my PT3 beta database into my current PT3 database instead of having two separate databases? Appreciate the help in advance, thanks.

Don't think that there is an automated way, but in the Database Management dialog box, you can do an export of the beta and import that into your current database. At least, that's what I did.

The easiest way to merge databases is to export all of the HHs from one database and import them into the other database. Splitting databases is a lot more complicated (but still doable).

Is there a better estimate than 'summer' for when a mac beta version will be available?

LOL @ mac poker player.

Yes, 'autumn' at the earliest is what is being quoted at the moment.
Edit: "fall", for the Americans, sorry...

Is there a specific folder or place I should export it to? In other words, is there something specific within the PostgreSQL folder that I should export the Beta db to?

Naw, when you export from the database, all PT3 is doing is dumping all the original hand histories into text files. Using the original hand histories, you could easily create a duplicate of the database, or in your case you could merge it with the other database by importing.

Any idea when the lag issues will be fixed? I really wanna start using pt3 but having 10+ tables open on my other monitor while I'm playing 4-6 tables gets really laggy and pretty unplayable. Sorry for lag post 2222.1234 but I havent seen in mentioned in a few pages.
