Hi Punter, Should I ask questions here about "how to" in pio? Or is there another forum where I can create a thread dedicated to a topic.

I want to discuss and find out if it's possible to do the following:

1) Node lock player 1
2) Hide this information from player 2 and force player 2 to proceed on the basis that player 1 is playing GTO.


For example, imagine we solve a situation and pio recommends OOP should bet flop 65%. Can we then node lock OOP, force them to check 100%, and then resolve but in a way that IP player thinks OOP was playing GTO.

I can see this being useful in situation where we decide to check 100% in a situation where villain does not know our strategy, and villain incorrectly assumes we are betting GTO 65%.

It's the same as just solving without node locking though. The purpose of node-locking is exactly so the opponent knows about it and can adjust.

What would be the purpose of resolving? OOP already plays optimally in all branches so you have solution after checking for all hands as well.
If you want to see how to play all hands after checking 100% it's already in the solution, no need to lock/resolve, just browse the tree after check

Well actually I don't think simply forcing a check will give me the strategy that I am looking for.

I'll give you an example of what I mean.

We 3bet out of position, and the flop comes in such a way that the GTO strategy would be to cbet nearly all our value hands (including nearly all the overpairs). Our GTO checking range is still balanced but doesnt contain many overpairs.

If we force OOP to check, pio will take this into account and adjust the frequencies in IP betting range. i.e. it will be proceeding on the basis that OOP now has a lot of overpairs now when it checks and now IP will be more passive vs a check than before.

I want to prevent the IP from adjusting to the check (i.e. lock the entire flop/turn/river IP strategy), then force a check from OOP, and then re-run so that the OOP player can exploit the fact that IP isn't adjusting to the check.

Ok so I saw a vid on youtube where a guy could hit control + shift + O to bring up a variety of flops and have them already solved for the same spot. How would I be able to premake these flops in the folder to have it so that I could just build the tree and be able to select different flops with control + shift + O.

You don't need to force anything. Just solve the tree. The strategy you are looking for is already there.

Yes, that's why you solve the tree with both options: check and bet (normal tree without adjusting anything).

This is not needed. The strategy is already there. You can just go to the check branch and browse it. The strategies are there for all hands, even those that never check. If you want to see full weights you can change the strategy in the first decision to always check (using node-locking form or "eliminate path" feature from 1.10) but there is not need to resolve anyhthing.

Again, there is no need to re-solve: OOP's strategy is already optimal in the check branch even for hands which don't check in the first place.

Hey Punter, I have the recently updated pio 1.10 version, and lately whenever I try to solve a postflop script, I'm having an issue with pio constantly getting stuck bouncing around at different levels and the exploitability is not consistently going down.

There shouldn't be any difference between running it in a script and as a single tree.

I went ahead and removed one of the bet sizes on the river in the single tree solve which I posted the code for above, unfortunately still couldn’t solve the 732r flop. It’s only a 15gb tree so not massive, and it’s not a paired board.

Went ahead and updated pioviewer to 1.10.8, rerunning the solve now. Hopefully the both versions being at 1.10.8 will help?

I don't know, it might help.
It's just a difficult tree. I am running with a dev version with different algorithms (CFR+ right now) and it doesn't converge well either (although it reached 0.25% reasonably fast). It should be easier for solvers which do algorithms with averaging but then it wouldn't be 15GB tree anymore
I will definitely keep it as a benchmark for the future.

Hmm ok, it's just strange because I never really had problems solving bigger scripts with 40gb trees that had 4 different bet sizes otr. Seems strange that it's encountering some issues now. Could just be the ranges I suppose and this specific texture of 732r?


I went ahead and reduced the bet sizes otr to 3 (removing the 100% bet size)
now it's just 33%, 60%, and all in otr. Also removed the turn donk bet. Overall tree is only 4gb in size now. Seems like the solver still has issues getting this down to .25% though

Btw, updated both viewer and solver to 1.10.8

- 2cards backdoor flush draw
- 1 card high backdoor flush draw
- 1 card low backdoor flush draw
- Flush draw + pair,
- Flush Draw + gutshot
- OESD + Pair
- Gutshot + pair
- Gutshot + Overcards

It is very tedious to find easily if you have to make a bet for example with overcards or with backdoor flush draw. If it is very difficult to add everything you could add the most important

I'm trying to run an aggregated frequency analysis over multiple files and getting the error "the given key was not present in the dictionary". I have no idea what this means, any ideas?

edit: i tried running the same multiple file frequency analysis with a different script i ran and it's working fine. any ideas what the issue may be?

Yes, very small initial ranges are one thing that makes it more difficult for the solver.

Yes, I admit it's very simple. It wasn't a priority to improve it although with work on PLOCalc we have a lot of code that can be reused to improve NLHE one as well in the future.

Most likely reason is that you have some files generated by a different script in the same folder or more than one script.

I dont use anti virus, i tried to check windows security settings, it didnt help. when i double click on pro.exe, a cmndprit window opens and closes in 1 second.

Almost surely not related.
There are a few similar boards that it happens on, QQQ, TTT both have the issue. Interestingly, it ran 222 and 444 boards completely fine.


Also, semi related: I'm trying to run a 255 flop script (changed from 256 to take out the JJJ board) my computer is randomly restarting while the script is running. It will get about 30 or 40 boards into the script then it will just turn off and restart. This issue is only happening with piosolver running, as I'm able to run very large monkersolver trees for 80+hours nonstop with no issues. I've also done extensive stress testing for 48+ hours with several standard stress testing softwares and have no issues, so it appears to be related to pio. Any ideas?

Seems like unstable system. Unfortunately crashes on Ryzen systems are common (you can try googling for it). Pio isn't capable of causing a system crash. Some people reported that it often happens when they run other applications along with Pio (like Skype). This is most likely issue with unstable RAM which is very common with Ryzen CPUs. You definitely need the newest Bios for your motherboard as there were many patches since Ryzens were released to mitigate some of those issue.

It's not related to Pio. There is no way Pio can crash a Windows system as it basically simple floating point math. There are many results on Google for random Ryzen crashes which only happen on specific workloads (some video game, some compilers etc.).
There are many people who managed to build stable Ryzen/Thread Ripper systems as well. Unfortunately I don't enough about hardware to do hardware support but it really isn't that simple to cause a computer crash from a simple C program which barely does any system calls.

fwiw, i tried running this script using Piosolver-edge-oldCPU solver, and the entire script ran with 0 issues (JJJ flop still won't run to full accuracy though), but the issue with computer crashing is no longer happening with oldcpu solver ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
