It is always good to be skeptical when downloading something from the internet

What's it going to cost when the trial period is over?

I see my HEM db in the Database Options, but when I select it and click OK, I get error dialog "Unable to connect to host: md5 password authentication failed" even though my user/pass is set correctly in the dialog.

I am not 100% decided but likely in the $25-30 range.

Thanks for reporting that issue. I think I know what that problem stems from and will see if I am able to replicate it/get it fixed as soon as possible.

If anybody else is having this issue, please let me know (PM, post here or email support@sliceeq.com).

v0.1.4 is now online at http://sliceeq.com/download/ that fixes a couple minor issues with loading hands from a database and street-by-street calculations.

Slice was not launching on the Month change over but this has been fixed now: http://sliceeq.com/download/

One user had been having a problem on Windows XP where Slice failed to launch with an error that said something like "CreateProcess failed; code 14001

This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

I set up a fresh XP box and was able to reproduce the problem....Here is a quick fix that should allow Slice to launch for you if you were seeing the same problem:

Open up notepad and copy/paste the text from the Code box below into a new file:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<!-- Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. -->
<assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0">
    <noInheritable/>
    <assemblyIdentity
        type="win32"
        name="Microsoft.VC90.CRT"
        version="9.0.21022.8"
        processorArchitecture="x86"
        publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b"
    />
    <file name="msvcr90.dll" /> <file name="msvcp90.dll" /> <file name="msvcm90.dll" />
</assembly>
Save this file in C:\Program Files\evplusplus\Slice\ with the file name "Microsoft.VC90.CRT.manifest" (without the quotes). Slice should now launch.

I will be packaging this file in the next Slice update so that it shouldn't be a problem in the future.

If anyone else has trouble getting Slice to launch I would be happy to do a TeamViewer session with you to get it working.

I'm curious: does Slice connect to the same data sources that HEM/PT3's HUD's connect to? (i.e., can it give you any real-time data about the equity of your current hand vs. villain's range as that range is currently reflected in the HUD?)
07-07-2010 , 03:24 PM
It does connect to the same database as PT3/HEM yes but can not do real-time equity calculations. That sort of real time equity calculation would make it illegal software at most poker sites.

You can load the hand immediately after you play it, but not during the hand.

I see. That makes sense.

Happy to say basic Stud and Stud/8 support is now available (http://sliceeq.com/download/). There is no hand selector yet for stud (or the board/dead cards ) but the full range syntax works for hole cards (upcards must be specific cards), range aliases are available for down cards (will be extended to include upcards later) and equity sims can be calculated on a street-by-street basis. I hope to add graphing for Stud later.

There are a couple of other minor fixes as well including a patch for a bug when Stove syntax was used in a range alias, a bug with tabular output for 2+2, and textual output was unlocked in the trial version.

I am going on a 2 week vacation overseas but after that will get started on implementing all the other great suggestions I've had from users! Keep em coming...

I just released a bug fix version (v1.1.1) That fixed the incorrect parsing of some ranges. Thanks to Hood for pointing this out to me.

Also I am working on a fairly major release with some new features and wanted to give people a look at some of them. There will now be save-able ranges that you can access easily in a drop down box:

and an improved Holdem Range Selection tool

There are other things, but those are probably the two people will find most useful.

Work permitting it will be out sometime next week.

Slice poker equity calculator v.1.2.0 is out!

Details and screenshots available here: Slice blog

Download here: http://sliceeq.com

The list of new features includes:

  • Vastly improved Hold'em hand selection including control over
    suit selections

  • You can now save your favourite ranges and
    access them in a dropdown list when doing equity
    calculations

  • Slice now stores a history of your equity
    simulations so you can go back and rerun/edit them later

  • Hand equities values are now displayed beside the ranges so you can
    see them at a quick glance

  • Card selectors have been added for
    board and dead cards

  • You can now right click on a range to
    save it, or send it to the enumerator

  • Various cosmetic
    upgrades to make Slice look a little nicer

  • A new holdem hand ranking order contributed by Hood
    of http://www.sickread.com. Thanks Hood!

There's a couple of other little things, but those are the main ones.

I've still got more suggestions from people that I want to include/implement...I just ran out of time for this release!

Hey Neko,

Just found this. Cool program. One key feature it seems to be missing (or maybe I'm just not finding it in doccumentation) is the ability to define ranges in relation to a given flop (or board in general). Thus I enter the board cards, and give my opponent a range of "any fd, any oesd, TP+" or something like that. Is this supported or do you plan to support it?
10-17-2010 , 10:51 AM
Hey gm,

That isn't supported yet but it has been requested before and is something I plan on adding in the future. Two weeks from now I'm going travelling for three weeks and then making an overseas move so I don't want to give an estimate on when it will be available.

Overall I think it will be a really useful feature so hopefully it won't take me too long to make it available. Who knows I may get to it before the end of the month!

Hi Neko,

I'm a bit confused by the combos/reduced combos percentages in the equity tab. I assume that the reduced combos are taking into account the card removal effects? If so, would it be possible to change the percentage to take the card removal effects into account as well. The percentages don't seem to be particularly useful otherwise. For instance:

Could it be changed so that the reduced percentage is out of 1176 instead of 1326 in this example?
10-28-2010 , 05:58 AM
Hi Luke,

In your example the 1326 is the number of combos for ** without card removal effects which is 100% of holdem hands. With card removal effects (i.e. all hands containing a Kh 2d 7s removed) ** represents 1176 out of a possible 1326 combos and 1176/1326 = 88.69%. The way it is written (i.e. 1176/88.69%) is maybe a bit misleading and it would be better written as 1176 (88.69%).

Can you clarify what you mean here? The reduced percentage is calculated as number of combos after card removal/total possible number of combos. The total possible number of combos is always 1326 for Holdem, 270725 for Omaha etc.

Does that make sense?
