I saw PlayerGPS advertised on Andrew Robls blog yesterday. I have been using it the past two days and it works great. I have one question though, is there a max number of buddies I can have on my list?
04-11-2009 , 07:44 AM
There is no maximum to the amount of buddies you can have.

Your FAQ says tournament support will be available later. Any idea when and what the pricing will be? Will there be a lengthy try-out period as there is for cash?

I like how this has been marketed as something other than an easy way for people to follow their favourite fish around.

Looks like a nice program though.

Its a long term goal and it is not in our immediate pipeline. We currently are focused on cash players and have a few more bells and whistles we want to get added for them before we move on to tournament play. Being that it is still a long term goal, pricing has not yet been evaluated.

will probably check this out if tournament support ever gets added

Looks nice but what does it offer for over $100/mo that sites like TR doesn't offer for free?

TableRatings simply collects results on players and stores them in a viewable database. It provides no notifications as to when certain players are online, or where they are playing.

PlayerGPS instantly notifies you (via text message or email) when any player on your alert list is playing. This is invaluable for keeping tabs on horses/friends, or finding a certain player to play against.

We also have a "Now Playing" page, which lists all tables currently being played by all players on your Alert List.

There is a sample video in the original post, but I will link it again here for your convenience.

At the moment, we are fixing HU NL, 8 Game, and HORSE for Stars, after that we will try and create the AIM, MSN, and SKYPE alerts feature.

Once all of this has been completed we then will work on IPOKER as our third site.

If I had to make a guess as to the time this feature would be available, it would be on the order of a few months.

Ty for the response, that's good news about infinite buddies. One suggestion is, it would be nice to have a "Remember Me" box for the login.

TR has a buddy list system that displays who is playing and where in real time. It isn't GREAT but it works and they have e-mail notifications as well. Your system looks much better and offers better functionality, just not sure if it is worth $120+ a month when you can get something similar for free.

The biggest selling point would have to be tournament functionality as well as support for games other than NLHE.

whats $120 to a balla

balla finds a fish
balla makes 12000
rinse repeat

that being said, im not sure if the prices are optimal. do you get twice as many people for half the price, etc

TR does have a buddy list, but they only allow you to select 5 buddies to track and they also only allow you to receive alerts just by emails. PlayerGPS allows you to receive infinite emails on all of your players in your buddy list. One of the big features PlayerGPS has is the capability to immediately receive text messages by cell phone when a player sits down at a table. Text messages are unlimited, and you can receive a text on any player in your buddy list. Don’t forget there is no limit to the number of players you can have in your buddy list (same with texts/emails).

The $124.99 a month balla’ subscription is for the high stakes players who play 25/50-2000/4000. Here are the three subscriptions and the limits that are covered:

Grinder ($0.25/$0.50 - $1/$2) For the smaller limits. This level covers all our available services for cash games up to the $1/$2 level. We currently only provide alerts for Hold'em, Omaha, and Mixed Games. $17.99

Shark ($0.25/$0.50 - $10/$20) For the middle limits. This level covers all our available services for cash games up to the $10/$20 level. We currently only provide alerts for Hold'em, Omaha, and Mixed Games. $39.99

Balla' ($0.25/$0.50 - unlimited) For the high limits. This level covers all our available services for cash games of all levels. We currently only provide alerts for Hold'em, Omaha, and Mixed Games. $124.99

TR only covers NLHE. These games/sites work for PlayerGPS right now:

PokerStars:
• No Limit Hold’em -.25/50-200/400
• Limit Hold’em- .25/50-1000/2000
• Omaha Hi- .25/50-200/400
• Omaha Hi/Lo- .25/50-200/400
• HORSE-.25/50-1000/2000
• 8 GAME-.20/40-400/800

Full Tilt:
• No Limit Hold’em -.25/50-500/1000
• Limit Hold’em- .25/50-2000/4000
• Omaha Hi- .25/50-500/1000
• Omaha Hi/Lo- .25/50-2000/4000
• Mixed Games- .25/50-500/1000

Currently we are working on PokerStars HU NL and HU PLO. Once this is completed, we will begin working on the third alert option, which will be receiving IM’s through AIM, MSN, and SKYPE.

Thanks again for the questions and comments! We appreciate it

It really isn't based on how many users are available to you although the balla' level has more users available. It is more that if you want access to the higher limit players you have to pay a premium. We think the prices are reasonable based on the limits someone is playing. The balla' level could be priced higher for the limits but we don't want to make it ridiculous just because they have more money than other players. We believe if you play the various limits on a regular basis then the price makes still makes it valuable for you. Also we don't limit the number of players or alerts. Everyone has the ability to add a Durrrr caliber player, but if he isn't sitting at the lower limits then the lower level is not going to be alerted that he is online.

TR doesn't have a limit to buddies, AFAIK, but you can only have 5 set up for email alerts. All of them appear when you have their buddy list window open.

Understood, but I think you misinterpreted what I said.

I was suggesting that if you charged half as much, you might get twice as many people who pay. There's a number you can charge that is optimal, I'm just not sure what that number is. You might know better than I do.

Hey guys!

We noticed there was a bit of a misconception in this thread, so I
wanted to clear things up.

PokerTableRatings.com does offer a buddy list, as well as e-mail
alerts when a particular player starts playing. These services are
both offered for FREE.

You can even get text messages if you'd like, as most cell phone
providers have an e-mail address that'll send a text message to your
phone. Normally this is something like YOURPHONENUMBER@att.net. If you
use something like gmail, it is very easy to set specific messages to
forward to your phone. We might add this as an explicit feature at
some point as well.

Give it a try, we think you'll be pleased

Thanks!
Dave

PS. We just raised the maximum number of buddy alerts to 100.
04-12-2009 , 09:04 PM
At PlayerGPS we have done the research and already know that many mobile providers do not offer the email to SMS capability. This is especially true for the international community, but we have it built into our system so that all international users can receive cell phone and email text alerts. Also we prefer to make the system as easy on the users as possible, and not make them have to jump through hoops to create their own way of receiving SMS alerts.

Don’t forget as posted above we cover most games besides NL Hold’em!

This is what we cover right now:

PokerStars:
• No Limit Hold’em -.25/50-200/400
• Limit Hold’em- .25/50-1000/2000
• Omaha Hi- .25/50-200/400
• Omaha Hi/Lo- .25/50-200/400
• HORSE-.25/50-1000/2000
• 8 GAME-.20/40-400/800

Full Tilt:
• No Limit Hold’em -.25/50-500/1000
• Limit Hold’em- .25/50-2000/4000
• Omaha Hi- .25/50-500/1000
• Omaha Hi/Lo- .25/50-2000/4000
• Mixed Games- .25/50-500/1000

*As we said before in the posts above, we are working on HU NL and HU PLO for PokerStars.

We invite you to try our product for free until May 1st for you to see if it is a valuable tool for your game. We think you will agree as far as alert options go our system will prove to be at the top of the list. We think we have and will continue to build the best online alert system for the poker community as a whole, and not just US NL-Holdem players. Thanks again for the questions and comments

TR doesn't limit your buddies. I suppose $40 isn't unreasonable for up to 10/20 but I do think if you do the ballanomics out you would probably be better off charging around $20. There have been programs like SmartBuddy applications that charge $3/month. Bottom line is you are paying over $120 for more games and text message support. E-mail notifications through TR work pretty damn well especially if you have a phone with e-mail like an iPhone or BB FWIW.

I am sorry we couldn't win your business, but I still urge you to give us a try while we are in the beta period. Thanks for your input, it will be passed on to the team here for evaluation.
