Yep. I agree Poker Academy's AI for No Limit Texas Hold'em is not so great. However, is was the result of the University of Alberta's decade long effort. While I don't think it's so great, it was still a big improvement over the prior "best" known No Limit Texas Holdem software products -- Wilson Turbo Texas Hold'em and Ace Spade.

U of A then turned their efforts to heads-up limit, which is dramatically easier from an AI perspective.

The fewer variables you have in a strategy game like poker the better computers will do -- so much so that in some simplified games of Texas Hold'em computers can be unbeatable a la Nash Equilibrium. One example is the end game of a No Limit Texas Hold'em tourney (where everyone's virtually going all in or folding) -- computers can play a perfect strategy here (or rather they can be unbeatable).

Computers cannot play "perfect" Heads Up Limit Texas Holdem (with decent sized stacks), but they can play exceptionally well.

We'll probably add tournaments and Omaha before limit.

Will there be updates to the program anytime soon? Or am I just missing the download page where I can get them?

I'm not sure I understand. Are you looking for a particular update/fix?

Hmm this thread is pretty much dead it seems. I had basically forgotten about this but now I am ready to try it, I'd like some input from players - did it actually improve your WR significantly you think, which part you like best, are there negative effects on your game too etc.

Right now I'm just interested in the scenario simulation, hopefully I'll get a good enough idea if I'm to buy it or not in 2 weeks

It's a very well developed software, and even as an semi-experienced player good to have as a "baseline" play to compare with. Since it doesnt include your knowledge of the players on the table, it can only give you a "theory" reflection on how the page should have been played (and it only presents this after the hand have been played).

It's not a "Holy Grail" or a "Silver Bullit", but its worth its money, even for a semi-experienced player as myself. If I had been starting out, I would have saved a lot of money with this.

Makes you reflect on your play, not a bad thing.

^ might be useful for the beginner but I kind of don't think it's worth the money. I tried it, just it's simulator function, it crashed A LOT, couldn't open more than one table or it would lag hugely (I have a good laptop, so it wasn't my hardware) and some of the advice given on hands was downright bad.

Now, add to that their forums are dead it's not looking good. I'd buy it still if they made a decent hand simulator that let you open multiple tables and didn't crash all the time

Note: the AI knows how your opponents play --to the extent you've imported hands. So the more you import the better the advice is -- because the better the AI knows your competition.
