For anyone I did not quote and answer directly, please see the post from Morny directly above this post.

That is a benign error because the config file expects a database to be created and named accordingly, but it does not exist for some reason. Simply click OK and then click Connect on the Database Control Panel. Create a New Database if one doesn't exist, or select your existing HM database as Default, and Start Holdem Manager.

If it will not connect to postgresql:

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?


Many of those free Norton, Mcaffee, Comodo, Zonealarm, etc, 'internet security' bundles will not work well with holdem manager.

Please do the following steps, so we can get your computer to a state that we know will work with Holdem Manager:

1) Uninstall any 3rd party security software bundles.
2) Reboot your computer
3) Please install the latest version: http://rvgsoftware.fileburst.com/HmBetaUpdate.exe
4) Enable Windows Firewall's recommended settings through your Control Panel, turn off Windows Defender, and add firewall exceptions for HM and SQL - http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...ender+Problems
5) Install Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus/malware protection and update it - http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Make sure windows is fully updated until 'No New Important Updates are Found' (this may require multiple restarts), including Internet Explorer 9 (even if you use a different web browser) and change your Windows Control Panel > Regional Settings Format to English (USA).

The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services > secondary logon > right-click > start AND right-click > properties > startup type: automatic.

First try to reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

*If UAC is enabled you have to Right-Click > Run As Administrator when you Start/Stop the service.

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...ender+Problems

Please try following these FAQs, step by step:

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands using these instructions

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) Use our combo installer to reinstall PostgreSQL. Make sure you un-check Holdem Manager during installation. http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloa...ager_Setup.exe

If that installer fails to install PostgreSQL, please reinstall PostgreSQL using the following instructions:

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) run the command - start > programs > accessories > command prompt > right-click > run as administrator

[php]net user postgres /delete [/php]

4) reboot.
5) Install PostgreSQL 8.3.9 from this link - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloa...3.9-v1.0.7.exe

Install it to a new path such as C:\PostgreSQL\8.3 instead of the default installation path.

i uninstalled the updates to get HEM back working again and it is but now im having a problem with my HUD. basically the player stat boxes are all over the place and not where they should be which is right beside your avatar which is where i had them setup yesterday

i tried moving the boxes around to where they should be and saving the layout but every new table i open they are messed up again

Verify/Re-Configure your pokerclient preferred seating and seating preferences in HM accordingly.

1) Open one Table, play at least one hand.
2) Move the stats with the right mouse key to the correct positions.
3) Table manager -> File -> Save positions
4) Now you can open further tables but you will always have to play at least one hand for the stats to be moved to the correct positions.

thanks fozzy that got it.

one last problem though is that when i resize a table the boxes dont move with the table so they end up out of place. how do i fix this?

fwiw i have lock the layout clicked in table preference already

Try disabling the HUD Options > Tables Preferences > [ ] Lock the Layout option and the HUD Options > Player Preferences [ ] Fix my stats position option if enabled.

Please attach your holdemmanager.config and prefs.xml file from C:\Program Files(x86)\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config to an email and send it to support@holdemmanager.com with a link to this thread and your forum name. What is a joke? I am not sure what problems you are having so you will need to give me more details so we can try to help you.

If you are referring to the windows 7 updates issues, it is something that was simply beyond our control and happens occasionally with various software companies. If you search that error number you will see it is not just Holdem Manager that is being affected by this windows update today. We are working non-stop on programming and testing a fix and hope to have a permanent solution in place very soon. You will need to try and have a little patience while we do everything possible to get a stable fix released.

Im sorry, just frustrated to have to come home and troubleshoot.

The fix is working fine for me except that the hand replayer won't work.

No worries, I just wanted to be sure you weren't frustrated due to a lack of attention on our part. Trust me, I understand completely how frustrating it can be. Imagine how frustrating it is for our support load to suddenly multiply exponentially and to make all of the developers stop working on other critical bugs to work on these new issues.

If I create a new database (to get the new report stats on my HUD), does that mean I lose my custom HUD and custom popups? If so, how would I be able to safely transfer all of them to my new HEM database?

Also, is there a way to save the Stat Selection that I have in my reports? I think when I download a new release it reverts back to default stats for the reports which kinda annoys me.

I downloaded and applied this update however, now hold em manager loads up as usual and then crashes. Before that I tried using auto import and it didnt work so I close HEM, opened it again... now it just crashes. Win7 user

By "crashes" I mean, it just closes by itself.

I dled the update and can start it now, but right when i start importing it says cant find cards0.png, need to have cards0.png in HEM file. The replayer still doesnt work and the cards dont show up on the screen from the previous hand like they used to.

I did a search and i have that cards0 file in the HEM folder. Please advise.

Is it possible to update hm without all my stats being reset? I mean, the stats I did configure in the reports.

No error message or anything?
which Firewall and virusscanner are you using?
can you start dbcontrolpanel.exe from the holdemmanager installation folder without crash?

Copy the cards0 file to the images subfolder

This should be the default behaviour. But to be on the safe side create a backup copy of the reports folder before installing the update. If the reports get lost you can copy this back.

Is the fold to 4 bet stat broken for everyone else? It works if I put it in the hud but on the 'Default_Preflop' popup it says 'doh' for everyone. Is their a way to fix this or must I wait for an update?
