Great, thanks - I'm about to buy but one question (apologies if this has been buried in the thread) how many computers can you register the program on?

I would also like to know how many PCs I can install the commercial version on.

Additionally, is there any discount for Stoxpoker members?

I'm a little conflicted about making it 2 per customer because:
- It's a terrible hassle in the registration system, as I need to register people twice. And whenever I re-issue a key I'll need to know which one of the old ones to ban. Huge pain.
- I'm worried about being taken advantage of. This isn't some huge commercial enterprise and I hardly expect to sell thousands or even hundreds of copies. In fact, from a commercial point of view StoxEV is definitely not profitable. I wrote it, simply because I wanted to write a generally applicable piece of software for EV calculations, both for myself and others with the same passion. I'm concerned that some may take advantage.

So for now I'm afraid it's one copy per purchase unless:
- I know you
- you have previously contributed

Afraid not, that is not part of our agreement.

Wow, really?
What do you count as your costs? Are you trying to reimburse the time spent writing it?

All I'm saying is, if a software company were to consider writing this with the sole intent of making a profit, it would be a very bad idea.

scylla, I sent you email ... I downloaded the commercial version (2.3.1) and installed it and I installed the license file. It seems to work but the splash screen still says "trial version" and the "about" window still tells me to go to your website to register.

StoxEV was working before and now it is still working so perhaps everything is good. It is a little confusing though to see the "trial version" text on the background.

If you prefer, you can respond here rather than email (might help others).

followup: I reran the commercial version install and selected the "repair" option. After doing this StoxEV told me it was registered and the image on the startup window no longer says "trial version". Also "about" says version 2.3.2. I'm not sure what was wrong but doing the "repair" has fixed it.

The trial version and commercial version are two separate programs.
You need to uninstall the trial version before installing the commercial version.

I can understand your concerns about having 2 licenses per customer, but I am not sure I can justify the purchase with only 1 license.

I spend a lot of time travelling so would plan to work on StoxEV in airports, on planes, in hotels etc. using my laptop. At home I would want to use my desktop which is hooked up to 2 monitors.

Great program btw.

I think you're asking the wrong question

I think the real question is the break-even question: after how many sales am I break even, considering costs (efforts, licences, etc.).

Also, and back to my comment, lowering the price might actually bring you more customers, and, in the end, shorten the break-even duration.

Ah, I didn't do this. Your instructions probably tell me to but I'm so used to installing the new version of PT3 or TableNinja over the old install (these programs DO NOT want me to uninstall previous versions -- even when I switched from trial version to commercial version).

You might want to improve your install program so that it checks for a previous version and will not proceeed unless that previous version is uninstalled (better yet -- it can uninstall the previous version after the user gives permission).

In any event, the "repair" install fixed the fact that I had installed the commercial version over the trial version. Hopefully this will help others who might make the same mistake.

Yeah, or maybe I should just call the trial "StoxEVtrial".
Should prevent any problems.

Hey Scylla, the new patch download is not working for me. The autoupdate does not work, and when I try to download it from the stoxev.com it doesnt work either. It downloads and then fails right at the end. I tried right clicking and saving to disk but that did not work either

Thanks for the report, let me give that a try ...

No, it works.
I see three possible causes.

1) I uploaded a new patch today. It's name is patch232_new.zip. In case you're trying to download patch232.zip, first refresh the page so that the correct link is loaded.
2) Rightclick the link and save to disk before unzipping. Possibly select a different download location than the first one, just in case your comp is using cache.
3) The server was down or had a glitch when you tried. Seems to work again.

If that doesn't work, just let me know and I'll post the file on megaupload within 30 minutes. Or just start StoxEVmain.exe manually, thus bypassing the update process (come to think of it, maybe I should add the option to start anyway, even if the update fails).

The only alternative transfers I've done so far is by pacific poker and by paypal. I strongly prefer not to do paypal, as their rate for a p2p transfer was simply obscene. And they'll probably charge the same for moving it from the paypal account. If pacific doesn't work for you, do you have other suggestions?

Here's a link to the website: www.stoxev.com.

There's also a trial version so you can see it in action.

To purchase, go here: http://www.stoxev.com/purchase.htm

Hey scylla,

I'm a bit confused with the latest patch. It won't auto update so I went to the website to dl the patch but it was just a zip file which extracts to a new stoxevmain.exe file. Should I just move that file over to replace the old file?

FWIW, I also dl'd the whole software again hoping that would fix the update since it would be easier to handle as an msi file and do it itself. Even though it says it 2.32 when I open the program it tries to dl an update and fails.

Thanks for any help.

p.s. I'm using the commercial version and have a key.

That is correct.

Let me have a look at that.
Ah got it.
Slight error on my part.
Open currentversion.txt and change 231 to 232.
It starts checking for updates because the currentversion is less than the online version.
I'll update the files in a minute (slow connection, so this will take about 30 minutes).

Hi,

Great software. Thanks for putting in the effort. But the commercial price is nuts. You'd need to run way ahead of ev !

Also, you should really have 2 licences especially at that price. If the price was $50 or so I would buy it in about 4 seconds as would almost anyone capable of using it.

I know you like graphs:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supply_and_demand

good work though, and thanks for the free version.

Sorry if this has been covered in a manual somewhere, but the EV of a line seems to fluctuate a lot between calculations. Like, I have this one hand and trying to see what my EV is at a certain point, and it fluctuates between -10 and +15. Any tips on getting more accurate results, but still maintaining sane performance levels, say, 30 seconds per run?

try going to

options>run settings

where you can change how many trials the monte carlo method uses. play around with the settings there until you get something reasonable. you can also do math mode with speed up and/or you can go to task manager and change the priority level of stoxEV for your processor usage.
