This is the support thread for RunGood, an iOS app for tracking live poker results. (Android version coming.)

Hi There,

I finally got tired of waiting for PJ to come out with an iOS8 fix, so converted to RunGood (missed out on the 50% discount by one day ), and imported my PJ data without any issues.

I've only tried it a little bit, but the one thing that I really wish would be added would be including the session lengths in the Cash Game Summaries. I think this piece of information is really important, and something I'm always needing to find out at a glance. I would even suggest you could remove the "Game Type", and substitute it in with the session length. Most players really only play one game type, 90% of which is NLHE anyways, so knowing which game type is being played for a particular session isn't really important.

Just my two cents.

Also, when starting a new cash game session, it would be nice if you could be able to set defaults for a lot of the fields, i.e. Location, Stake, Buy-In, Game Type, etc. Most of the time, I'm playing the same game. It gets tedious and repetitive to always have to input the same information.

Thanks for downloading RunGood. We explained our reasoning behind the design in another thread. Here's a quote from the post:

Quote:
The problem is that I have to consider when the maximum space for all fields are being used. In Poker Journal, the fields would just overlap, which I really disliked when I tried using it. The current layout in RunGood provides better readability. Displaying more info for each session would require increasing the height and fewer sessions at a glance.
However, I'm now considering adding an option to show fewer sessions and more details per session.

Sorry about that. At this point, I think it'd be unfair to those who didn't receive codes and decided to purchase the app if we gave codes to people who asked later.

For what it's worth, we put a lot of effort into making RunGood the best tracking app we could, and believe it's well worth the full price. There are no subscription fees or in-app purchases, and we plan to continue providing updates for it (both to add new features and to ensure the app runs smoothly). Also if you think about it, the app costs less than a preflop raise or, at the very least, a preflop 3-bet.

You can tap and hold when selecting the session type for a new In Play session to automatically use the setup from the previous session. You can also configure defaults for each location in Manage Data > Locations.

Hey James,

I just wanted to add to your official RunGood thread the request myself and others have put in again: to please add Session Length stat to display in the cash game list. I like to see glancing at the list what kind of time I've been putting in per session right there. Thanks.

Next, in the cash game list, for the date displayed all I see is a "2014-09..." for example. Is there a way to change this so I can see the entire date? And preferably the day itself spelled out as well? That's another interface feature I like from PJ and Poker Income Pro, the date is listed in full like "2014-09-27 SAT".

With some proposed and requested additional features, and I've read your reasoning as to why some things do not show currently, is it at all possible to add these features and allow the user to customize what is displayed in the cash game list? So users who want minimal info can have that as is, and others like myself can add session length or whatever else to the list (at the cost of seeing less sessions per screen view)?

thanks

Great, thanks for the tips. I've now configured defaults for the locations in "Manage Data". However, when I start new cash game sessions, and select that location, those defaults don't get auto filled.

I start a new session, select cash game, and am immediately asked for a buy-in amount, which I enter. I'm then taken to the cash game screen. When I input the location, none of the other fields auto-fill.

What am I doing wrong?

In a few posts above yours, I reply to another user that I'm considering adding an option to show fewer sessions but more details per session.

I'm guessing the date is getting cut off because it's using "-" instead of "/" as a separator. Most region formats should be fine. Can you tell me what region format you are using on your device? (Go to Settings > General > International > Region Format to check.)

In the current version, session details don't autocomplete in the In Play session timer screen (our original considerations, posted in the other thread, are quoted below). I plan on changing this, but for now you'll need to select the location in the session details screen (tap "Edit") to use the default setup.

Quote:
We realize the potential inconvenience here, and our original consideration was that all "autocompleted" details should be visible (they appear in blue in the Edit screen). I agree that filling in all fields from the session timer screen is much quicker, and think we will end up making this change (perhaps adding an overlay message to provide feedback to the user that the location setup has been used).

Thanks for the reply James. Just a suggestion, but you don't need to redo the entire summary format to show less sessions. Instead, you could remove the session game type (for me, it reads "No Limit Hold'em"), and replace this with the session length. The game type is probably not information that most people need to know from the summary

Hope you enjoy the app! If we have another sale we will definitely announce it on Twitter.

If I do that, users who play different games will want another interface option for them as well! See how these things can sometimes put me in tough spots?

I'm most likely going to increase the height for each session to accommodate session durations. The layout will probably be identical to the session details for cash game graphs. An added benefit to this is more room for game names that need extra space to fit.

Strange, I could've sworn I tested the region format for Canada. Will definitely fix this.

In the meantime, you can temporarily switch your region format to United States if the dates are bothering you.

Well I'm in! Just imported the data and so far it all looks great! If the app works it's easily worth $15-$20 and I'm happy to have paid it. I have played a few sessions since the data that was imported and a few MTTs. Can I enter these after the fact?

Other than that, I just want to test the "in game" play of the app. Thanks again!!

Thanks for downloading!

You can input sessions after the fact in Results. Track them as you go in In Play.

just downloaded the app and imported all my sessions from poker journal. couple of quick things

-deleting a location from the manage data tab will cause all sessions played from that location to be stripped of its location information

-in the cash game stats tab, hours played and profit/hour don't adjust for any breaks that have been recorded

-beating a dead horse here but i'd also like to see session length (with break times subtracted). while the PJ session list isn't quite as pretty as yours, it is perfectly readable to me and i like that the small font allows 10 sessions to fit in one screen (i don't notice any overlap issues). i think you can add in the session length feature without compromising the readability by reducing both the big white font telling you what type of game you were playing in and the font for the amount won/loss since the green/red already make it stand out. you might even be able to show more sessions in one screen?

-in the stats tab, would be nice to have the option of displaying profit (big blinds) as profit (big bets) for us limit players

This is normal/intended behavior when deleting a location. After you delete a location (or game) it simply ceases to exist in the database.

Quote:

They actually do adjust for breaks. The current Hours Played > Total stat shows the total session hours (including breaks), while break time is automatically deducted when calculating profit per hour stats.

But for clarity, I will be changing the title to "Duration" and expanding the stats to Played, Break, Total and Average Session. The update should be available in a week or so along with some other features.

I hear your requests.

What I had in mind is something like the session details for cash game graphs (on iPhone 5 or later) minus the bottom row displaying total profit. Going with this option offers consistency between the two screens, but would increase the height for each session, meaning fewer sessions on screen at once.

Another option would be to squeeze the session duration before the session date. But that presents its own issues when all fields are being used.

Finally, I'm also considering an option to reduce font size to allow for more info. The current font sizes were chosen for readability and to be harmonious with Apple's own designs (like the Messages app), but a smaller font would indeed free up space.

These changes require a bit of redesign so they won't be coming in next week's update just yet, but hopefully I'll have them ready for the following update.

Quote:

As it's relatively easy to convert between the two, I don't currently have plans to introduce big bet stats.

Thanks for downloading RunGood and the valuable feedback!

Great, thanks, adding them now. I don't see a way to account for tokes/tips after the fact. Am I missing it or should I create a new "expense" ?

Yes, tokes/tips are recorded as expenses in RunGood.

Awesome, thanks! I've added all past sessions and played a few MTTs and full ring while using the app. It's very good and I'm happy with my purchase thus far!

I tried to export the data but it said that I cannot because I don't have email set up on my device. I use the gmail app on my iPhone, not the native mail app. Is there a way to backup/export wo having to set up the iPhone mail?

You'll need an email set up with the default Mail app to export sessions. I don't think it was possible to create an attachment for the Gmail app when I implemented the export feature.
