Re: The Combonator: Free Combination Analysis For Hold'em

Hood, I have another request that should be easy. Add more groups. I was about to register but with only 4 groups I won't be able to do a lot the analysis I want. Eg, I might easily want to break down villains range into:

1. air
2. middl pairs or less
3. top pair+
4. good draws (oesd and fd)
5. gutshot

And in other problems there might be more. Also a tiny nitpick: When I press down a group button it's very hard to tell it's selected. Like it becomes a slightly darker shade of gray. It's more obvious in your vids that it's pushed but not on my machine.

Thanks!

I'll add these both to the todo list, thanks for the feedback.

Weightings would be cool..right now it is so smooth with exporting to stove I don't see why you need to bother much with equity calcs.

One thing I can think of that would be cool that equilab had before it was yanked was you specify your own range then it would basically deal you hole cards and a board for practice basically..I was just getting into it then the program vanished.

Fantastic work though.

That's not really the direction I want to go in. However hands vs range equity calcs would be useful for group selection. For example, you can do "select top 70% of combinations on this board vs this hand".

Re: The Combonator: Free Combination Analysis For Hold'em

v1.2 now out. Over the next couple of days I'll be updating the site and blog with more info on the new features and more screencasts. But until then he's a brief rundown of the new features:

- Saving/loading to .combo files (anyone can load, saving is pro only)
- Better chart tab
- Quick-selection from clipboard of board and hero cards (just copy a hand history from HEM, from a forum post or raw HH, and one-click set in the combonator)
- Switch between preflop/group selection modes without losing your group selections.

plus a bunch of other tweaks and a couple of bug fixes.

Unfortunately, this version appears to have the same problems on some builds of XP as v1.1 did. I am now working with some of these users to hopefully find a resolution.

Re: The Combonator: Free Combination Analysis For Hold'em

I actually made an elementary version of this last year (in javascript) because I didn't know about the Stox one, so it's cool to see a good range analyzer get made.

I remember there was an online tool somewhere that broke equity down into a histogram based on boards (so, for example, not just saying 88 vs AK has 52% equity, but showing a histogram of the equity on the next street, so 1/3 of the time 88s get 8% equity, 1/8 they get 95%, other times 70%)

It would be cool if the Combonator did a similar thing, obviously low priority though.

Re: The Combonator: Free Combination Analysis For Hold'em

I have to admit, I am a bit disappointed with "values" tab. I would love to see more made hand classifications like owerpair, TP, second pair... two overcards, A high and so on. This way it's easier to see how often villain will fold to a CB given a range and flop for example. I know I can figure it out by defining a group of hands with which he will call or fold with, but I think looking at cumulative % is easier.

I like the software so far

It's something I will definately look at when equity calcs are added in.

Fwiw both slice and equilab (equity calculators like pokerstove) have this feature.

Agree 100% about the values tab. This will get some attention soon. Glad you otherwise like the software.

Re: The Combonator: Free Combination Analysis For Hold'em

ust a quick PSA: Just released a new release of Combonator that fixes a bunch of bugs and adds in Equilab export support.

Grab it here:
http://combonator.com/download/

I've also been steadily adding to the video archive with "Combonator In Use" to show the various ways The Combonator can be used in your studies. I've released just released a vid on balancing your own range.

You can view all vids and stay updated by subscribing to the blog:
http://blog.combonator.com/

Or the vimeo page:

Re: The Combonator: Free Combination Analysis For Hold'em

I hope to release a smaller v1.23 release adding in some of the smaller feature requests I've had (including more coloured groups and a better values tab), then get to work on v1.3 with some of the bigger feature requests (like equities)

Could you please compare and contrast your tool to flopzilla and answer how would a flopzilla user expand his analysis with your tool?

Re: The Combonator: Free Combination Analysis For Hold'em

I would suggest you watch one of the vids on the website or on the vimeo (http://vimeo.com/user2871513/videos). Or just download it and try it (it's free!). The two programs are very different. The pro version includes a flopzilla-like output tab, but other than that there's not really much to compare.

This is a quote from the new 'learn more' page:

With The Combonator you can ask questions like:
- What makes up my opponent's perceived range?
- How does this board texture hit my opponent?
- How does my opponent's range narrow based on his action in future streets?
- How is my own range balanced in this spot?
- What's the top and bottom part of my range here?

Could you try and let me know?

I have 3 XP test machines and it works on all of them. I've got an XP home and an XP pro, both work. One is a fresh install, another is a 'used' machine. All 3 up to date with service packs.

But I know one user who still has problems. So it's still a mystery. I've no idea how wide-spread the problem is with XP. I've had no further reports of people having trouble since the first version so I'm assuming some people out there are running on XP without trouble.

Seems to be working fine for me on fully updated 32 bit XP SP3.

Just downloaded it though so no idea how to use it really, but seems to work fine.

Re: The Combonator: Free Combination Analysis For Hold'em

Combonator v1.3 is here! Hoorah hooray!

- XP fix! If you had problems running combonator before, try now. I think the issue is now resolved (it was a problem specific to non-english versions of XP)

- Group weightings.
- Now 8 groups (pro users only obv)
- Looks nicer.
- Improvements to auto-selection.
- Bug fix and speed improvements.

Re: The Combonator: Free Combination Analysis For Hold'em

Version 1.4 is right around the corner. Not 1 but 2 awesome/amazing new features for registered users: equity calculations and full undo/redo file history support. BOOM!

The equity calcs opens the door for many awesome new features: You can automatically get hero's equity vs any range or group selected (and once the calculation is complete, changes are shown instantly in the output as you make changes). Here's how it's looking:

In the future these capabilities will allow for a lot of new output/analysis tabs and it also allows for really interesting auto-selection features. Undo/redo support will be fully featured multi undo/redo and I hope to get in with a file history tab so you can overview all the changes you've made and jump back to a specific point in time.

Both these pretty much feature complete, I'm just polishing the edges and running tests.

Along with these big changes there's a bunch of smaller improvements and fixes, including some bugs with draws autoselection that was introduced in v1.3.

To cover some of the costs of all this extra development time there will be an increase in license cost; however i'm sure you'll agree these new features still make The Combonator an insta-snap buy! Everyone already with a license will get free upgrades to v1.4 and all future updates. So if you've yet to purchase a pro license, now is the time: get in on $25 price before things go up in a few days. GOGOGOGOGO.

Of course there will and always will be a fully functioning free combonator for all your cheapskates, so bug fixes and smaller improvements will be available in v1.4 free version.

If the equity calculations won't be available in the free version, before I buy I'd like to know what enumeration algorithm and what evaluation algorithm you used. Thanks.

Re: The Combonator: Free Combination Analysis For Hold'em

My own. The results are exact, not monte-carlo'd. It uses a pretty simple naive hand evaluator and iterates all boards, for all combos individually (with some speedups).

Re: The Combonator: Free Combination Analysis For Hold'em

It's in the output overview tab. There is equity of hand vs entire range, vs all grouped, and vs group individually.

Equities have to be calculated before equity results shown, this process will begin automatically once a valid board and hero cards are typed in.

Re: The Combonator: Free Combination Analysis For Hold'em

just a ridiculously cool program / haven't put a poker book down or had the range tool up and slice telling me whats up

one question is there a way to see all the groups or multiple selected in slice along with heros cards and not just all groups or exactly group 1?

i really can't say enough good things about this program

Not exactly sure what you are asking, could you explain a bit more? Also to clarify, are we talking about Combonator, or Slice (which I don't develop, but combonator does export to slice)
