I've just posted version 2.1.1 with some bugfixes and a couple of new features. Go to www.stoxev.com.


One of the things I will be focussing on next will be stability of the program.
For this purpose I've added two new thing: Session restore functions and a basic error report.

Session restore function
From now on, whenever you change something in a tree all data will be saved to the file "tmpfile.txt".
Whenever you leave the program, voluntarily or not, the next time you open it the program will offer to read the last tree stored.
I fully expect this to have some problems at first.
This function has required a fairly large amount of code.
When you try to restore a session and the program stops working, please mail me the "tmpfile.txt" so I can figure out what I've missed.
However, only do this if this was a tree created fully in version 2.1.1.
If the tree was originally created in a previous version I'm not too surprised it didn't work.

A basic bugreport
If you get a crash when you're working on decisions, actions or conditions please mail me the file "SIreport.txt".
I suspect a decent amount of the errors are located in a certain part of the program and I would like to start narrowing down causes.

A new look
As you may have noticed from the website, StoxEV has a new look.
Bye bye retro 1990's look.

New automatic updates
From now on StoxEV will automatically detect and download new files upon startup.
This may give some trouble at first, so bear with me please.
Big advantage will be that your custom user files will no longer be overwritten.

Very important to know that there's now two exe files in the StoxEV directory and both must be run as admin.
These files are StoxEV.exe and StoxEVmain.exe.
It's possible that after StoxEV auto-updates one or both of these files will reset to not being admin.
If this is the case, please mail me about it and I'll have a closer look at it.

New installation directory
Standard installation directory is now C:/Program files/StoxEV/StoxEV.

Other
Some other stuff that I don't even remember.

thanks for all your work scylla. I'm getting the following window:

"Your trial date has expired"

I've downloaded the latest version but the same thing pops up. What can I do?

Is your date set correctly?

My date was set incorrectly. It was set to October for some reason. I reset the date, restarted my computer and tried both versions. I still get the "your trial has expired" window. Very strange indeed.

i had a similar problem. But in my case I downloaded 2.1.1 rather than 2.1.2. Make sure you download 2.1.2.

By the way, great program. Scylla, if you are not going to charge for this software I think at least you should activate donation (your PS name for example). Well, I'm not going to pay anything but I think others will donate for sure (I was joking, you have assured a couple of bucks ).

What made this all of a sudden stop importing hands from HEM when set to PartyPoker? Like it works half the time now and yesterday it worked 100% of the time. How did this happen? And it was doing this with 2.1.1 and I just updated and it is still doing it.

I'm afraid you're out of luck until I release 2.1.3.
The encryption software checks if you've turned back your clock after installation.
If so, it's impossible to use the software anymore because otherwise it would be too easy to get around the expiration dates.
Once the encryption software has you pegged as an evildoer you can't change its mind.
2.1.3 should work fine again though.

I'll see if I can find an excuse to create a new release so you can use it again.

You mean there's a problem importing party hands?
Just mail me a hand history in which it gives an error and I'll fix it.

This might be just the excuse for me making an update that JWalker needs...

HHs will not import if only one blind is posted. If three are posted they won't work either but editing the HH to make two blinds only gets it in there and then you can edit it. I emailed stox_Ev@hotmail. three samples.

Ok, just had a look at it.
I'll see what I can do.

The situation with no small blind posted is definitely one I did not consider. The software simply looks for the presence of a small blind and big blind posting and gives an error if it doesn't find them both. I'll just change it so that the small blind is assigned to someone and set to 0.

The situation with a poster probably doesn't work because when I wrote the HH import the code for posting blinds was probably something like "humptydumpty posts dead $1" or something like that and party has now changed it. They seem to make such small changes now and then.

Makes sense. I'm tickled I figured it out so quick. Thanks for making this import option. Saves my hands from further RSI.

Ok fixed.
When you start the program it will automatically download the update.

Everything should also work again for JWalker/mohow.

Getting the Monitor Program error... This is my work computer, so no malware or decompilers/sniffers/etc on it, I wonder if DeepFreeze is triggering it?

Darn, I misread. Previous answer in white below, just in case I need it again.

I can't really tell you what program triggers the security.
Let me know if you find out so I can advise other users if this problem pops up.

Just did a quick check.
Indeed, it appears that the security does not like DeepFreeze.

It's probably because StoxEV.exe in turn starts up StoxEVmain.exe.
I can imagine some security doesn't like that.
Can you turn it off?

If not then just start StoxEVmain.exe, which is the real program.
You just won't automatically detect and download updates.

StoxEV.exe is just the startup that checks for a new version and downloads and installs it. Security software might not like software that downloads and runs other files without asking for permission.
I was actually very surprised to find that even on Vista with all the security turned on the computer simply allowed me doing ... whatever the hell I wanted.

This is basically my first attempt at a secundary management program (the startup screen) and I thought I'd start out with an easy straightforward approach. If there's a lot of problems with this I'll have to rethink my approach.

Just downloaded the latest version and I'm having multiple orgasms discovering all these new features.

Could you perhaps clarify a bit about how the unexploitable-shoving feature works: I tried inserting a hand pretty similiar to the example you gave in the tutorial, and it runs the AI-shove calculation as expected, but when I look at the results, it shows some hands as +EV for the shove, but still lists those same hands as a part of the fold range. Does this imply that the shove is a mixed strategy and those hands are part of the threshold?

Also it would be amazing if you could toggle the way handranges are represented as percents also as the amount of combinations each hand makes, and how much total combinations a certain range is.

No, I actually still need to add suits to the popups.
Let's say the flop is Kc8c2c and one of your hands is AQs.
AcQc may be a shove here while AsQs is not.
Right now you can't tell the difference (although an educated guess can take you a long way).

Other than that it sounds like you understand just fine what the shoving tool does. The tutorial works!

I use XP, do I have to run this as admin? thats pretty ridic if so.. why does the program need admin privileges?

also, you really need to convert the images on the site, the .bmps are huge and take forever to download. use jpg or png

No, of course not.
Just Vista.
And I don't know why it needs them.
However, a lot of people who report problems seem to have them solved by running as admin.

Pretty sure they're all jpeg, but I'll check.

DeepFreeze is the software you see on school computers and at internet cafes...basically, any changes or installs made to the computer are lost on reboot, so everytime the system reboots it's like loading a fresh image of your drive. Keeps my work computer stable and fast. It sucks I can't use StoxEV with it, do you have any suggestions (other than using a different comp for stoxev)?

Try running StoxEVmain.exe instead.
It's the main program.
You just won't have automatic updates.

Oh wait ... you're having trouble with the security software.
No, you can't reason or negotiate with it, so I'm afraid I can't help you there.

sorry if this is posted somewhere. can the new features work out an unexploitable-shoving range based on stack sizes. For example, your utg in a 10 seater MTT and the short stack with 10 bb's, will i be able to find out which hands i should be pushing asuming everyones calling range is prefect?

edit, asuming both the payout structure or without if thats not possible?
