RIP Buddy. You always brought a smile to my face. You were one of the funniest guys I knew. You worked your ass off and I always massively respected you for that. You were one of the most appreciative people I ever coached. You always were quick to say nice things about me to others and I rarely heard you say anything negative about anyone at all. You were just a really ****ing good dude and I hate that you are no longer with us.

Wilt, you did a great job honoring Bill in the podcast. I contacted you maybe a few months back as a reference for Bill's coaching. You replied very quickly and are the main reason I continued working with him when things got a little tough. Thank you.
I was able to get so much more knowledge and insight from him, and these last few months really brought my game so much further than I could have on my own. Sometimes such a small gesture like replying to an email can go such a long way. Bill knew that better than anyone, and so do you.

Thank you Aaron.

He will never be forgotten. I just found an old post of his that made me so proud of how hard we have worked together and how successful he has made me where he quoted me. It also shows how proud he was of me. Just reading it right now is making me cry.

@ Playbig2000 - I think WiltOnTilt hit on something paramount in his podcast. Forming a 3rd place, a "Cheers" if you will, is important. Somewhere where you can blow off steam. I know there have been plenty of times where I leave the game utterly frustrated, mainly due to confusion about if I played correctly or not, yet I could always talk with Bill, and get relief. If I played poorly, we could fix it. If it truly was runbad, oh well.

battagd1 is starting a study group for us. Hit him up with your Skype info. Can't hurt.

Im sending out my condolences. Im a student of Bill's. Iwas really learning a lot about poker from him. I am saddened to hear of this. I have the poker work for 3bet and follow thru and creative play but didn't get to finish with the answers yet. Does anyone have notes on these? Again i am sad to hear of our mentors passing

The concept of reciprocity, as taught by Bill...

We can take hands, such as QT, and make a reciprocal profit from them by using an alternate betting line. Where most would call, we can raise or fold, thus changing the way those two particular cards are played, gaining us a reciprocal edge.

Where QT would be a call for most players in the same spot, our unique, contrarian approach will allow us to make a profit from this hand. Where most players would fall into the "standard" line, and keep any money from moving, we can deviate from that line, and profit.

Tommy Angelo said his biggest reciprocal hand was QT if I remember correctly. Meaning he played this hand differently than his opponents, so in the end he won more and loss less with this hand than his opponents.

I'd say mine was KT. Maybe it will continue to be - I hope. Or even AT. I remember so many times, with KT, AT, QJ, QT, even JT - taking Bill's advise and isolating limpers with these trouble hands (given certain conditions). Then when we whiff (which seems to happen always), navigating our way through a hand to ultimate victory. Not "forcing it", but using his strategy to our advantage, with handreading, and taking the pot with air. That stuff was not in any books I had read, or any videos I had watched, and I read and watched plenty. Those "trouble hands" from the videos turned into very welcome profitable hands when I was fortunate enough to look at them. Sh*t, we might even flop gin and not have to worry!

He went so far as to talk about betting a whiffed AQ for value - a concept that was completely foreign to me. Yet it worked. I would be hero called by worse than a whiffed AQ with his betsizing/handreading strategy. Wow. Who bets a whiffed AQ for value, and has it work? Bill Hubbard does.

Thanks again WiltOnTilt for your memorial podcast. That's big time - taking time out to chat about a poker hero to so many of us. A guy that helped so many people. A guy that kept many "in the game" when times were tough, striving to help us realize our dreams.

Bill truly was a kind hearted, generous man. And he had the live low stakes poker game solved. It was a lock with his guidance.

Bill had it all it all solved! All of this talk about he was a low stakes expert, is true, but he could beat anyone and adjust in any situation. Countless times we would discuss adjusting to better players, namely with our bet sizing.

Bill..."Well a small bet here is not gonna get it done...what's in there 46? Umm...let's bet 69, what are they gonna do w/ that..?" Then we would laugh as the pot was pushed our way...10 min later against same villain..."Wait! is this the same guy...oh man! ok, Dude over bet he's gonna snap call..." Laughs as another pot shoved our way...

Bill..."see we adjust on the fly and our two steps in front of everyone...Look at em on two plus two...they think i'm out of my mind...you can clearly see that i'm not..."

Bill was the best, plain and simple.

I'm forever in your debt, Bill. And I point to the sky when I over bet w/ 6 high every time...like last night!

I hired Bill and logged 15-20 sessions a few years ago. I wasn't going to post but I can't stop thinking about him and what might have gone wrong. Does anyone have any idea WHY?

I'm interested in the Skype group but can't PM. Any suggestions?

Bill changed my game so much I can't describe it. I'm just another person who he helped and I really I'm sad about this news. RIP Bill.

RE: the podcast and reciprocality

Great podcast, where can we find the rest of them?

I think we're OK in the 77 spot because at low stakes others are making reciprocal errors - not with 77 but with other hands they're in that pot with. For example grinder A, grinder B, grinder C all make the same amount of money with 77 in that spot and that's perfectly fine. But they all make a profit because fun-player A called UTG+1's raise with K6s this time, and fun-player A called the raise with A6o next time. When fun-player A is in that spot with 77 he doesn't make as much because grinder A/B/C aren't in there with K6s or A6o, denying fun-player A reciprocality when he has 77.

I think I vaguely remember this hand from a session and his point was that calling was perfectly fine pre but shoving pre was also plus ev and that's where the pure profit comes from... Think it was a 2-5 game where it was say $20 to call pre.. He advocated shoving 400 to win 125 or whatever was in the pot preflop... That $125 you pick up is pure profit bc you did something with the 7s that most ppl wouldn't do

^^ I remember that too. From what I remember, vs a wide opener's range and a few calls, jamming 77 worked. I didn't get to that point with Bill, where this would be a comfortable play for me. I'm still in the calling spot, setmining. Hopefully that will change soon.

But if you think about it - let's say you open UTG+2 with KdQd, get 3 calls, and someone shoves... Ouch. Talk about a hero call. And, we're ahead usually anyway!

I made a play recently that I would never have made without the confidence Bill gave me. I had AQo. $1-$2. Opened $12 UTG. Got a shove from MP of about $50. AQo is the very bottom of my calling range here. An aggressive player calls. Back on me.

I think of Bill's instruction. We're not going to call. It's raise or fold. I have about $300 behind, enough to put pressure on the caller. Click it back to $120, and shove about any flop. Call. He's gotta be weak.

Flop - TT7. Ship it. Tank fold. I chop with the original raiser, who has AQo. Caller walks off in a huff. He probably had us both beat.

The hand planning Bill taught was awesome. When that guy called my preflop clickback, I knew what I was going to do next on almost any flop. And I felt good about it. In this spot, it worked like a charm.

I remember Bill telling me - "I like it. Man you're lucky you took it there on the flop. I like it though". That made me so proud. Regardless of the play, it was an aggressive idea that I learned from Bill, and it worked. We got the best hand to fold in my opinion.

Bill's strategies are admittedly unconventional, yet man, do they work.
