Emails like the following, that students keep sending to me is the biggest reward, which makes my work not only financially, but also emotionally very rewarding.

By the way I was wondering, are you going to be in Vegas for the WSOP this summer? I am heading out there the xxx of June for two weeks. If you are around let me know, I would love to thank you in person for the things you did to my poker game. It is simply amazing how my game is now in comparison to half a year ago.

Cya

On another note, i'm not gonna be in Vegas, but my locations are usually updated, so if anybody lives nearby, we'll find time for coffee/caipi/dinner.

Re: NEW secrets to success in 2013 ===> Check out why other poker coaches hate me

Hi Gordon, Hi Everybody,

I am here because I have been checking out this thread for some time now. I am not spending a lot of time on 2+2 but this one definitely caught my eye and I appreciated a lot Gordon's sincerity and generosity.
The reason why I am intervening now is because I have some questions rambling around in my head and I know Gordon can give me an honest answer with a mind free of preconceptions.
I am kind of a beginner so to speak (I must have been playing for one year now and taking breaks now and then) but I have been getting decent results in a short time. I am no genius at all and I still have a lot of flaws but I can say I have an overall good understanding of the game and the players' psychology and a good intuition. Moreover I am audacious and agressive.
I have played mainly 6-max 5NL and some 20NL, mainly because of my currently very low budget (I did not think there was a lot of difference in terms of play), on PokerStars or some low-frequentation belgian sites (I am from Belgium). Actually I thought the game on PS (at least in microstakes) is pretty soft.
At the end I could play all right, doubling or tripling my buy-in in 2-3 hours (I only play 1table at a time).
I have trouble playing longer, cause I can get very nervous then. And that's where I make mistakes. I think my main problem is the mindset. I can be very fragile emotionally and sometimes I just push things too far and I can lose an entire buy-in at once. That's why in the long run my results are not so good. I tend to feel and psycho-analyze the game too much. I try to control myself but it's very frustrating, because I can win consistently but when I lose, I lose a lot. I don't have much stamina either and I know I will not be able to sit behind a screen for 10 hours/day (I would say 5 hours to the most).

I must say that I don't have a huge ambition in poker (it is not the center of my life), I would be happy to just make a normal decent living with it. It would also bring a major boost to my morale if I could achieve something in poker. It would symbolically mean a lot to me.
So I want to ask*:
Do you think I can make it*? How much would it take*?
What advice/recommendation can you give me, what kind of game would suit me best*?

Thanx a million for what you might share with me, good luck to everybody,

F

Re: NEW secrets to success in 2013 ===> Check out why other poker coaches hate me

Hi Frankie,

thanks for the compliments. If i summarize very quickly you basically said

* You don't have high ambitions but it would mean something to you to have decent success

* You don't have much stamina

My honest opinion is that your attitude is not a good one to make lots of money. Poker doesn't need to be your life's center, but i can guarantee you that it was the center of the life of EVERY successful player at least for some time.

You say stuff like "i don't have stamina". That's bull****. It's like saying " i have no endurance and can never run 5km".

Well, the thing is that you CAN train if you WANT. Look, if you're a recreational player who has fun and no high ambitions in regards to poker that's rly fine. Doesn't make you a worse human being (although on a poker forum perhaps lol, just kidding).

My suggestion is to start with "HU for Newbies" (find it on bestpokercoaching.com/shop). Its 27 Euro only and is geared towards players with a lower roll.

So perhaps you have a bit of a fatalistic attitude ("things are as they are"). Like people saying " i am not talented to do x , y, z ".

You know that i believe that anybody can do anything if they WANT it. That comes with the obvious restrictions of many asians not becoming an ass model (to much time in Brasil).

You get what i wanna say. I wish you the best!

Re: NEW secrets to success in 2013 ===> Check out why other poker coaches hate me

Thanks for your answer,
Now I realise my post didn't sound very constructive. But I think I needed to get this off my chest... Thanx for the kick in the ass though !
I did purchase the "HU for newbies" course and it's very refreshing to get some solid ground to get back up on and realise you were not doing so bad after all on certain spots while at the same time doing basic mistakes that could have been easily avoided if someone just told you before !
I am also basically discovering HU play that I didn't know at all and it's pretty interesting. One question though : What makes HU sit'n'gos much more profitable money-wise than HU Cash Games ?
So now I am well on the tracks again and working on having a much more positive mindset and being more serene and focused while playing poker.
I definitely plan on getting some more advanced lessons as soon as I get some substantial results !
Now it's my turn to give you some advice : don't let all these brazilian girls get you on tilt ! ;-)

Re: NEW secrets to success in 2013 ===> Check out why other poker coaches hate me

Hi Frankie,

your question was, "what makes SNGs more profitable than HU cash".

The answer:

Sngs are NOT per se more profitable than cash games. They have a HUGE advantage at lower buyins though. You can play HU for only $1, you don't need a big bankroll.

HU cash games start being profitable at NL50, for which you should have at least a 1,5k bankroll AND some skill.

Where can you get that skill? At lower limits. But the rake is to high for HU cash on lower limits, so HUsngs are the IDEAL way to learn.

Once you move up, your goal should be to play cash games & join HU Mastermind, because you can make way more money there. But we all started somewhere.

Some of them doubt at me. Some of them told me I am a dreamer and foolish. Some of them told I talk the talk but I can’t walk the walk. I told to all of them only two words: “F.ck you” and here I am, after some time adding next update with my progress. Today I had session where I earned more than people do in a month in Poland. It’s a second time when I had such a huge winning session. Be aware it’s only nl50!

Since my work with Gordon I improved my bankroll 400%!! Tomorrow I‘ll shot Nl100 I’ve never ever been on NL50 before I met Grodon. More than that I was b/e / losing player on NL25 and I sing up and read my first poker article at 06.07.2010 to PS. Talk is cheap that’s why I am goona show you more progress soon.

How much of your 25nl roll did you use to buy the course. How do you afford his hourly sessions that are one on one? Seems legit based on your blog which I'm subbed to but how did you make that first step?

(We have a deal, he has to work hard, has strict oversight and i get a % of winnings. This is not an available deal though. He had to work hard to get it)

A while ago i've made a video for Pokerstrategy.com and i claimed that ANYBODY who is willing to put in some time can move up stakes (relatively) quickly. The message of my video was that it's all about attitude.

Like Ilidek says, words are cheap so he took me up on my challenge and i have to prove again what good and effective coaching can make happen.

That's the short version. Visit bestpokercoaching.com and read the blog of imachampion and others as well.

It will help and inspire you!

The OP gets updated (every couple months) regularly to implement changes.

Re: NEW secrets to success in 2013 ===> Check out why other poker coaches hate me

I finally took my first shot at 1KNL, Gordons goal was to reach it within 1 year. We reached it in 9, we've had tons of things go along the way that has slowed down the progress. I can say I learned a hell lot from all the mistakes I've made, so wasn't entirely a waste..

Anyways heres the graph. (This was roughly 4 months of play since we got to Mexico).

Gordon had to correct me a lot, with life, with poker just everything. I still usually ended up doing wrong anyways (lol). And didn't entirely listen to what he said so made some errors along the way, I definitely learned from them and I think within these last two months I've gotten MUCH smarter with everything LIFE related.

Yep .. I made it

And I hope to stay here for quite some time..

Steven, its always a bit funny to look back. At the first start and at the interview where you show pics of the toilet without doors and stuff...

These are parts of your first review, 12 days or so after the first HU lesson(s). (I've cut out most parts cuz it was long) :

...every student he takes in he asks questions/wants to know where you want to get to and knows what it takes to get you to that specific destination obviously not nosebleeds but up to the highstakes and thats where I want to get to

...Wanted to post the graph where i started from 4NL/10NL but.. imageshack wont work where i lost like 10 buy ins(lol) before moving up in stakes

* Everybody who wants to follow the whole journey, Steven has made 2 threads where he documented his progress (almost) every day

* We could have EASILY done this in 7 months if he avoided some "bull****" stuff with banking, moving to the wrong apartments and other stuff that made ME !!! go on tilt

* We're not anywhere near the end, but we've made a symbolic milestone by taking the first shot at NL 1k AND winning with AK ai vs somebody who overplayed AA pre

Right now YOU (who is reading this) should sit on your ass and work hard. Think about WHAT you wanna achieve and go for it.

It's not always an easy road (read the blog of Imachampion). You'll always doubt yourself when things don't go your way. But the key to success is to not give a **** and move on anyways.

You should know that ANYBODY can realize their dream.

Stop excusing yourself and get to work.

Steven does not regularly answer here, but it was more than 50 i think for sure ( i didn't count). Whenever i had some spare time from other projects, i would call him up on skype and we have a session.

You can ask him anything you wanna know as much as you want in his goals & challenges thread here on 2p2 or on bestpokercoaching.com

Hey Gordon,
