I'm not 100%, so take it with a grain of salt. But once you put the code in (and it shows up in your account), it's only yours and the code is no longer valid for others to use. I'm assuming if this wasn't the case it would be a pain for amazon. EX you sell card to user X and user X orders a random item. Lets say you also use that same code to order something at the same time (for ex sake obv). Who in this situation would get the code? Kinda rambling but I'm thinking that explains it better. I guess if it's a sum you aren't comfortable losing, then only trade w/reputable people.
Edit- Also google their sn's. Poker sites, 2p2 etc.
