Re: Comprehensive WSOP package, selling shares at 1.25 (revised)

Yea a friend of mine showed me this thread too. Many of you probably don't care what my opinion is but anyways I will give it a shot. I have had really bad experience with staking people and that's why I sort of felt like posting in here. The OP made a huge f**k up and seems like has enough decency to fix this. Well back to what I mentioned earlier about the bad experience, well roughly like a year ago someone had done a similar thing on another staking site and I won't mention any names but the guy was a good player just has problems with controlling emotions but basically what happened was the stakers (I was one of them) as crazy as it sounds eventually let him play and just have someone that was trusted hold the money for that person and just have the person ship any winnings back. Well that person did end up paying it all of after a few nice scores in some tourneys and as far as I know is a pretty solid player right now so shows some people do change. I know some of you have already posted that this is crazy/stupid etc etc but how many of us have said we are quitting poker etc etc? and then after thinking about it/watching rounders a few times you are back 5x better the player you used to be and back to crushing the game you love. What I'm saying is deep inside he still loves the game and with the guilt inside of him would probably play his A game given the chance and would eventually win back the money he owes you guys. Anyways I just wish the stakers good luck and hopefully the OP does follow through with the payback.

I think the way to post in a thread like this before action is closed if you have information that may be important to others would be in the form of a question: "What assurances can you give us that this money will be used only for these tournaments? Can you have the money held by a 3rd party and given to you on a per-tourney basis? If so, I may invest."

This would alert others to look deeper without mud-slinging, and at the same time perhaps create a situation (3rd party holder) that could prevent potential shenanigans.

This said, I hope all investors get their money back (with an appropriate interest rate) and I think it is good to give HIV a chance to do so, even if it takes a little time.

Re: Comprehensive WSOP package, selling shares at 1.25 (revised)

While I had no desire to invest in HIV for a few reasons (one being his past degeneracy), I also did not expect something like this to happen at all. Very disappointing for all parties involved.

I hope everything works out for the best, although I am not optimistic. I say this not because I think HIV isn't motivated to make right, but because as has been pointed out paying back this large sum of money on a starting salary almost anywhere in the U.S. right now in any industry will take 5+ years min IMO. I won't comment on whether HIV should play poker or not, because ultimately that will be up to him.

It sucks that you threw away a great shot at making money this summer, HIV.

Man.. if you're in this thread to laugh at HIV or laugh at the people who he stole money from or tell him to keep gambling, gtfo.

Kurosh in particular, you're doing a great job of listing all the worst things to say to a problem gambler.

Re: Comprehensive WSOP package, selling shares at 1.25 (revised)

HIV, here are the steps you need to take immediately:

Step 1: Find someone who's willing to handle all the money transferring for you. Obv this person needs to be completely trustworthy and needs to have plenty of money online so that he can easily pay people back. Looks like maybe you've already found this guy, but thought I'd mention anyway.

Step 2: Transfer any remaining money out of your poker accounts to this person. E-mail the sites and have them close your accounts. If you have decent amounts of cash, give that to the escrow as well. If you have any bank accounts or whatever that you think you're likely to end up gambling with, give that to the escrow or to a family member or close friend.

Step 3: Figure out exactly how much you owe to the penny. Explain in detail to everyone involved exactly how you came to this amount. If the situation is at all complicated, find someone completely impartial (i.e. not invested in this, not friends with you) to help you decide on a fair amount.

Step 4: Write up a short contract explaining that you owe the escrow $x that he will then use to pay back your debts. You and the escrow both need to sign this. Then scan it and make it available to the people you owe.

After you've done that stuff, you can worry about getting your life in order and specific payment plans and crap.

Good post Noah. I was planning to make a post along these lines, but I could not have articulated it this well.

The guy needs help and people laughing at him and bashing his investors/suggesting HIV get back into gambling are not really looking the big picture.

ok very dumb quest i suppose. i did the searches on HIV when i looked to invest and pulled stuff from the advanced search that went back a year + but found nothing truly weird. how did you find something in 30 seconds? is it because you knew where to look?

Please do this.

Kurosh--

This is what I hope I would have said to you if Noah hadn't entered this thread before I replied.

Noah--

Thanks.

read my post. I have no idea if that stuff comes up in searches but I know personally from reading way too many hours of 2+2 that during a head up match between hiv and gild, hiv multi-accounted and has admitted to doing so. I think it may even be in a BBV stickey.

Not trying to rub anything in, I am sure you did due dillagence and are just not an internet nerd like myself. good luck recovering every dollar that is owed to you.

i understand and appreciate from folks now that there was history - i get it now but trying to figure out how i could of found out before hence the question

for me learning for next time, is how to uncover this information in searches etc. before investing. i did the requisite search but found nothing but gildwulf suggested he got this info in 30 seconds. taking that at face value, i want to understand how so next time im looking into xyz i look for all the relevant data as i clearly missed the obv if gildwulf could find this in so short of time

here is the thread. mods feel free to delete if this doesn't belong or if I don't belong

*it has been a long time since I've read the thread so not even sure if it tarnishes HIV's name at all, guessing it does since it is 3 years old

Re: Comprehensive WSOP package, selling shares at 1.25 (revised)

well gildwulf knew HIV's past degeneracy patterns because he had personal history with him. Obviously he did not not know that HIV would lose/run away with x amount of dollars. With extreme due dillegence, you could have known the possibility that gildwulf did as expressed by CTS earlier in the thread.

Obviously, by investing in relative unknowns through the internet, you are taking these risks on at a much higher degree than other avenues of poker investing.

Search for all threads started by HIV by typing HIV in the upper right corner and changing the bar to 'all threads' and clicking search. Should be pretty much the minimum prerequisite before giving a guy thousands of dollars. If you wanted to do a more thorough combing (I would suggest this for next time), I would search all posts so you can get an idea of what someone is like. There are at least 6 other posts in that search that indicate huge amounts of degeneracy.

For instance, right after he writes this post he makes this thread in BBV about how he dumps all his money at 200 400.

Or the time he played me hu and lost most of his bankroll after the Sunday Million and owed a LOT of people money, including Grimmstarr for 5-10k in Chinese poker money and never paid him back.

He has done this type of thing probably a dozen times over 4 years and it is well-documented on 2p2.

re: nose "investing in unknowns"...what makes this so funny/sad/very funny is he is a very obviously known degenerate/scumbag/terrible with other people's money to anyone who has been posting on 2p2 for more than 2 years and people in this thread. This include Fitzcat, who very sketchily pimps out his friend HIV even though he knows very well this history, posted in most of my hiv grudge match threads, and does not disclose anything (if you are going to get pissy at someone, get pissy at him). The rest of the older posters in this thread have either forgotten or just ignored it to wait for the impending trainwreck. I mean, come on, his trainwreck threads in BBV which is the most widely read forum on 2p2 have 60,000+ hits and are in the bbv STICKY for god's sake.

dude obviously

but im trying to figure out how you got all the way back to 2006. anytime i do a search the oldest i get is 2009. nothing in those made me react like i would of if i had seen the ones that you highlighted. im obviously doing something wrong in the search function but have done all the above plus playing with the options for all older then a year plus and still only get to 2009

any thoughtful advice appreciated

Got It

for those if any with the same issue as me. when you do the advanced search you only get so many replies. even sorting for posts 1 year old + only tkes you back to 2009. however, if you do the search for older then a year and in ascending order you get the older stuff. fwiw as another way of researching when investing

yea, or go through the archives

http://archives2.twoplustwo.com/ubbthreads.php

It is understandably confusing, about as confusing as it is for me to find this forum not through a link (commercial marketplace and a marketplace link right next to each other=confused for about 2 minutes)
