Me too...

I still haven't heard anything except for the late night IMs he sent me a couple of days ago. In those, he said he would answer emails (which he hasn't done so far) and be in contact to explain the whole mess, including posting here. I will continue to try to contact him...

I have not heard from HIV in a week, but my advice to him is to write a completely honest paragraph on how he fkkd up and his plan to make it right in this thread immediately. If he wants to have any future poker career this is his only reasonable action.

Re: Comprehensive WSOP package, selling shares at 1.25 (revised)

If anyone is in touch with Jonathan, please encourage him not to gamble with the remaining money any longer. The $10k he sent to Fitz gets him to about 33% of what he owes us. If he actually has another $12k (his IM said $22k) then he'd be over 70% paying us back.

Hope this helps clarify things.

Hoping for the best for everyone as well. At the same time, if you did any due diligence looking into this guy, this can't be surprising in the least.

I'm interested to know what he has done in the past that is making everyone not so surprised by this?? I had a piece obv but i just thought oh HIV i recognize the name and other reputable posters were buying pieces. Clearly this is my own fault for not taking the time to look into it but it does worry me slightly that it was kinda common knowledge that this guy was a bit of a loose cannon; if i'm understanding some of the posts itt correctly.

yeah i didnt know any specifics but was fully aware he had some dumb degen stories. It didn't bother me because so have I... and frankly i was drunk when i agreed to buy a piece. I feel kinda bad for people like the above poster who assumed there were no issues.. but hey, we haven't heard from hiv yet so let's not start flinging **** around imo

HIV = DEGEN LEGEND. Although it was certainly common knowledge by those of us that have been on 2p2 for a few years, it's not really our business to say so in his staking thread. In fact, anyone who did that would be terrible out of line.

Re: Comprehensive WSOP package, selling shares at 1.25 (revised)

If its any consolation to investors, I've known HIV for quite some time and I know he will eventually run up something/pay you all back. He is not a scumbag, just a degenerate.

I would only invest in him if he was kept on a very tight leash. Sending him all this $ and him playing just for markup or whatever obviously was a recipe for disaster.

I'm not making any excuses for him at all as I'm sure if whats being said ITT is true its very ****ed up and wrong. I just am saying that I'd bet on him eventually paying it back, so take that FWIW. I haven't talked to him or anything and don't have a piece, gl to everyone.

Re: Comprehensive WSOP package, selling shares at 1.25 (revised)

meh

first off i dont the right answer to this but i find it disconcerting that so many folks knew this was a recipe for disaster yet this and the other link prior never mentioned anything particularly concerning. i like many did a cursory look, saw a bunch of recognized and respected posters, did a search on HIV and found nothing deeply concerning. yet after the "episode(s)", now its well known, etc. i know its a slippery slope but somehow knowledge needs to be available to all potential investors on here and not after the fact as is happening now

I agree that it is poor form to flame someone's staking thread without cold evidence. But...

I think the way to post in a thread like this before action is closed if you have information that may be important to others would be in the form of a question: "What assurances can you give us that this money will be used only for these tournaments? Can you have the money held by a 3rd party and given to you on a per-tourney basis? If so, I may invest."

This would alert others to look deeper without mud-slinging, and at the same time perhaps create a situation (3rd party holder) that could prevent potential shenanigans.

This said, I hope all investors get their money back (with an appropriate interest rate) and I think it is good to give HIV a chance to do so, even if it takes a little time.

Mehhh, I still stand by my comment. If HIV had ever maliciously scammed someone or owed money to someone it would be one thing, but that's never been the case to my knowledge. Also, all the infamous stories of him busting his rolls at 200/400 limit or whatever happened a pretty long time ago. I do feel that anyone who is only playing for markup is probably very high risk, and not probably worth investing in, and I was pretty surprised that he got all of his action sold.

Lol at people who knew him and had concerns not voicing them in a thread where the guy was trying to drum up 50k+ citing not trying to ruin his staking thread.

Ummm, this is the exact place where it would have been appropriate to voice those concerns.

Sucks for the stakers but the ones who withheld knowledge of this guys issues should be ashamed of themselves.

the problem is exactly as you described. he had issues a while ago that many knew but many us saw reputable posters signing up and nothing that raised concerns when we did searches. for the good of the community we need to find ways to get that information out to the broader community so we arent faced with crap like this

agree 100%

As i said earlier, I knew about hiv's rep but didn't really care when I balanced it against my opinion that he was too smart to do something like this... however I feel bad for those who invested and weren't aware of anything other than his decent stats and popularity.

Not an easy one to get around though. It's not like we can all have an ongoing log of every scandal / rumour that goes around, and nor can we invite everyone to fling muck around in other people's threads.

well, maybe I'll look more into reputations before investing next time... Still waiting for an explanation from him. I had no idea of previous scandal/degeneracy issues, just saw a bunch of trustworthy people invest and assumed there would be no problem.

Still waiting for an explanation from him.

His explanation will be that he's a degenerate who lost control and chunked off the money, something that was known by many who didn't want to "ruin" his thread where he was trying to solicit 50k+.

The thing is there would have been nothing wrong with voicing known concerns. HIV could have answered the concerns and if people still wanted to invest in him then so be it.

Nothing wrong with vetting someone who is collecting 50k from people.

seems like CTS knew there possibly was going to be a problem by his research alone.

just because "reputable people" are buying, doesnt for some reason mean the person is legit. i bet a lot of buyers who buy a ton of action dont even do much research and just buy based on stats.

hopefully this all works out. HIV should be posting in this thread.

i dont know what cts knew or what research but i searched on threads hiv posted in and i searched on hiv itself to see if anything negative came up and i found nothing notable or at least obvious.
