Random hustle/prop encounter Random hustle/prop encounter

Last night I was getting off work and saw a friend and a few new customers from out of town talking around the pool table with a strange ball setup. The fairly drunk out of towner was proposing this prop:

Most of you have probably seen this but it was a first for me. You must run out and can "break" from anywhere you choose. Slop counts but must call the 8 and pocket it last. Valley 7' table.

Guy was offering even money but I was skeptical. What % chance do you give various grades of players to run out? Here's my guesses:

A- 70%
B- 55%
C- 35%

Spoiler:
My first attempt I scratched getting shape on the 8. Was a pretty bad error. I ran out the 2nd and 3rd attempts. On the 3rd he offered 2:1 which was an easy accept. The keys are breaking the cluster on your first shot and avoiding pushing balls into rails obviously. I broke from just left of the 4 ball and played the 9 to break the cluster. Curious how others would break since this is something I'll likely do again.

A 7 foot Valley bar-box has buckets for pockets.

A pro would run that out 99% of the time. I consider myself above average having been a 7 in the APA. I think I can run it out 9/10 times. I'd personally take buddy's bet any day with confidence.

Pro- 99%
Above average- 80-90%
Average- 50-70%
Below average- 10-20%

My first thought is to break the same as where you did. Bump the cluster towards the middle of the table and leave yourself between the cluster and bottom rail so you can get those balls out of the bottom pockets first, getting them out of the way to shoot the cluster balls asap.

I agree with this except I give an above average player a better chance. Maybe 90%+. This is not a hard task for a good player.

I'd start with the 4 or 12 in the side pocket with enough of an angle to break out the cluster. The rest should be pretty easy. Just make sure you don't hit two balls sitting in a pocket at the wrong angle to cause them to hang together.

run out or make it in under 15 shots? we used to bet over under on twelve.
pretty hard not to be able to do either after you learn how to do it.

Run out. Must pocket at least one ball on every shot.

so you figured it out after your first try--while making a pretty bad error!!!!..and made it 2/3. and you put A(let's call that really f'ing good) players basically equivalent to that? LOL

im count myself as a good player and i can do it 80% of the time. but i know people that could 99% that even after 8 pints

anyone that practiced it a few times that can run the three balls easily should do it almost every time.
