Magic Ball Rack Magic Ball Rack

So the free soft cue cases that came with my purchase of cues broke and I'm forced to order one off the internet. Seeing as the Magic Ball Rack was only 12 moniez, I got one of them as well.

I am in love. If the Magic Ball Rack was a hot chick, I would make passionate love to her then marry her. You know those dumb rubber racks that you spend 2 minutes hovering over to try and get a tight rack and when you finally do, you accidentally nudge the back of the stack when you lift the rack and you have to start over again? Or those tables with screwed up foot spot sticker that the apex ball never seems to sit on comfortably? Or those times where whatever you do, the rack is loose? Yeah, those days are behind you with an MBR.

It was pretty easy racking with it. Slide the balls into their spots, give them a light nudge if they're not completely frozen, break, and watch them scatter pretty good. I'm not sure if it's variance, the rack, my way of breaking, the table, or a combination of the above but in a 6 hour session, I got two 9 ball breaks and the 9 ended up near a corner pocket several times. It would take a little getting used to how the MBR breaks but it's so worth it to have a tight rack every time.

Only beef I have with it is that the rack itself does disturb how the balls roll if you shoot over it. There are times when you break and a ball bounces back and just chills on the rack. But other than that, damn this thing is amazing.

Not a shill.

yes a corporate employee has posed on this forum for 3 years posting fairly regularly in this section, taking part in the sweepstakes etc, just so he can make a post advertising $20s worth of plastic.....

Ban for life.

Well that's just a great idea. So simple I'm amazed nobody thought of it sooner.

How long do you think each template will last? Are the holes going to get enlarged and sloppy from repeated use?

I watched a demo video, and they were using what looked like aramith pro balls. Will it work with cheaper sets of balls with higher tolerances?

The advertisements and website says they're durable but I would guess that you might want to replace it every year or so. Not sure about cheaper balls but I assume if they're the same size, it'll work..

Does it need to be stored flat, or could you roll it around your cue case to store it without it curling?
11-06-2011 , 06:57 PM
They say you could roll it and I do. It comes out flat on the table.

i guess if you roll it towards the table then it will flatten out with the weight of the balls.

how does it effect the roll of the balls after the break? I'm guessing you have to take it off the table after the break (assuming all the balls cleared the rack)

Yeah, you take it off after the break unless a ball ends up chilling on it. It can completely stop a very slowly moving ball and I've seen it give an unwanted slight curve on a slow one too. Sometimes I get lazy and continue playing with the rack on the table and if you shoot over it at normal shooting speed, doesn't do anything visible to affect the path of the ball.

It's a pretty cool rack. I have one. The only problem I had with it was in 9 ball on every table I brought it on it was easy to make a wing ball dead on the break, every time, which is something I'd rather not be easy for other people - since I've got a pretty good break on my own.

Weird. When I was racking with those crappy house racks, I could sink wing balls pretty consistently. But when I swapped to the MBR, I started sinking the headball in the side more breaking the same way. Maybe it's variance.

Confirmed shills itt

I'm no shill and I LOVE my magic rack, nothing stops racking arguments faster.

I love the Magic Rack! It makes things easier, its really great on bar boxes that are not in the greatest shape.

I just got back into playing pool again recently and last night was the first time I've ever seen anyone using this thing. Two pretty good players got to the semi's in a match and before it started they both started discussing the terrible spot on the table. So one of them suggested he gets his magic rack and they both agreed. Pretty cool little device I guess. Although, the first break I witnessed with them using it, one of the balls slowly rolled up to the magic rack and then rolled away since it didn't have the momentum. That probably barely ever happens though.

I have never used this rack, but I don't think that this is true. The only time that the cueballs path will not be changed is when you are shooting perpendicular to the edge. All other angles I am almost positive will be slightly deflected, up to two times. Even if you can not see the roll off, it is there. With pool really coming down to fractions of degrees this should not be overlooked.

When Alex Pag. faced Shane van Boening at the end of december they were using this rack and like you said would leave it on the table for a few shots every once in a while. In fact Viffer was announcing some parts of that match. SVB won, 100 to 85(or eighty something).

As a slow racker I want a magic ball rack soooo bad. I mean if all balls aren't touching what is the point? The precision is well worth the price and this is one of the best things for pool in a long time, imo.
