Still watching and enjoying, not feeling it as much as previous seasons though. Ben Folds was incredible again

Good news on both fronts. Renewal is awesome, and having the luxury of knowing your show is ending allows you to cater to an actual ending. Very happy about this news all around, though bitter sweet that my current favorite show will come to an end.

Can anybody explain the Stephen Hawking joke from episode 12 to me?

The joke itself wasn't funny. The fact that Lindsay accurately placed Stephen Hawking with Universe stuff is what got the reaction from Gretchen and where the joke was.

Contrast that with Lindsay showing up later for Mexican bearing a bag of some Orange fruit saying "I brought limes!" And we run the Lindsay greatness gauntlet.

Fsoyars, with the S5 pickup just announced this week, is it safe to say this episode was written with the possibility of the series ending after this episode if a renewal didn't come? If the answer is yes, do you feel the ending would have been different had you known for sure S5 was on the table?

Also, I'm pretty sure we need a Killian spin off show.

That kid has some stories to tell

Gawd this show is a trip (& I love it).

I picture all the writers in the room drinking, smoking weed, maybe throw in some shrooms while telling horror stories about relationships, their friends relationships and other crazy life stories and then deciding: hey, lets put all this **** into the lives of 3-4 characters and call it a show!!

No, it was written with the assumption that there will be another season. We didn't know season 5 would be the last. After the fact we were certainly aware that we had accidentally given the network a great out if they wanted to end it there. I always figured they'd let Falk end it on his own terms though.

Haha pretty close except for the part about partying in the room. Outside the room, sure.

With the announcement of the final season premiere date in January, just wanted to say good luck Fsoyars on the final season (Though I'm sure nearly all the work is done for you since the cast wrapped a couple weeks ago.)

A big thanks for posting here and being a part of one of my all time favorite shows. Have finally gotten my wife into it and while she didn't enjoy season 1 a ton, the tone shift in "Finish your Milk" from the previous episodes pleasantly surprised her and she is geared up for S2 to be more of a mature drama/comedy rather than a straight comedy that season 1 can come off as.

I don't understand this episode? WTF is going on? What is with the 1990s video store? Who are these people? And then the two main people are at some sort of party? WHAT IS GOING ON?

Are you ****ing kidding? That was a masterpiece. And even if you didnt think so, the entire thing was worth it for "Im the lead film critic for the big Paris paper."

Knowing by that point that Gretchen is telling the story and that she has no clue what newspapers are in Paris is such unbelievably strong writting. Not to mention that she forgot what Cannes was so the film festival she is being interviewed at is just called "Le France film festival."

Give this one some time and a second watch knowing they are just ripping off random different genres to tell their story to these random wedding planners FOR NO DISCERNIBLE REASON... like, its really really incredible.

The entire last act is a comedy dream. I dont think Ive seen that much tightly wound comedy in a single act since peak Simpsons.

None of it was real. It was a fake story made up to tell to wedding planners just because thats what Jimmy and Gretchen ****ing do. Because, you know, the title of the show. We know how they met, we know their story. Obviously they didnt meet in the 90s in a video store, they met at Beccas wedding. We already know all this but we sat through this fabrication of their relationship based around rom com and sci fi rip offs because thats who Jimmy and Gretchen are.

It just didn't engage me at all. The reveal 20 minutes in that Gretchen and Jimmy are talking to a wedding planner doesn't make the random story that was shown retroactively engaging. It's probably just me, I like straightforward storytelling. I tuned in to see Gretchen and Jimmy and Gretchen's chubby slut friend and Paul Nye the Science ****. I literally checked to see if I was on the right channel like ten minutes in.

Did you do the same with LCD Soundsystem? Another of the series best that doesnt focus on the main characters for the first act.

My DVR didn't record the first showing, and then I noticed this thread bumped and that the season was starting, so I set to record the latest showing of the night. When I started watching it, I thought the channel must have made a mistake with the late-night schedule because this isn't You're the Worst. It kept me interested and wondering long enough to get to the reveal.

It definitely was not a masterpiece. Just jamming in a bunch of cliches and archetypes is cheap and easy. The jokes you cited were pretty obvious and any of the crappy parody movies from like 20 years ago are full of them. Also, writing something that is consistent with character traits isn't "unbelievably strong writing". Its basic **** that any professional writer should be able to do. It was a modestly entertaining episode, but nowhere near as innovative as you think.
