Darmok not really even in my top 30 tbh.

I guess hearing " Darmok and Jilad at Tanagra " and " Shaka when the walls fell " about 40 times in it turned me off big time.

Was Parallels the episode where Worf is traveling through other realities ? If so it was a good one.

Loved Voyager.

Favorite TNG episode has to be Best of Both Worlds, with too many honorable mentions to count.

there were several alternate universes in voyager. i meant they didn't have any episodes with THE mirror universe where the federation is replaced with the empire(or whatever it's called), and the world is brutal with lots of slaves and goatees and one dimensional characters

Was a huge TNG fan and watched it a ton, but never DS9, Voyager or Enterprise. If you were going to NetFlix one of these, which would you guys recommend?

I started watching DS9 but never really got into it that much during the 1st season (the kid and the doctor really tilted me for some reason and couldn't get into the characters), and Voyager watched maybe the first 6 episodes.

Yesterdays Enterprise
The Defector
The Measure of a Man
Chain of Command
Tapestry
The Inner Light

Ah I could go on and on. Yesterday's Enterprise if I had to pick just one though.

This episode tilted me for a couple of reasons. No language can develop this way. You have to have simple sentence structure to convey a metaphor so why not just use the simple sentence? Speaking of metaphors they were speaking in similes, not metaphors. The premise of the episode (establishing communication) was OK but the execution was just lol.

DS9 and it's not even close. Give it another chance and you won't be disappointed.

The 1st seasons of all ST shows have been the worst but I think DS9 matures even more quickly than TNG. There's lots of conflict and a war that takes place over quite a few seasons. Massive fleet battles that put anything in TNG to shame.

Jake Sisko unlike Wesley gets limited exposure for the most part , and even if you consider him the most annoying character ..which I really don't , he doesn't even come close to Wesley Crusher or Neelix.

And unlike Voyager , the characters are better developed.

Voyager is my favorite, but DS9 is the answer to your question.

ds9 gets way way better. skip over all the parts in every season about the bajorans.

you shouldn't give up on voyager without watching the two part season finale where they first meet 7 of 9. it's the end of season 3, and the start of season 4. it's fine to skip every episode up to that point.

i am one of the rare ones who actually enjoyed enterprise. i can see how seasons 1 and 2 considered ridic bad. but i think seasons 3 and 4 were legit good. it's fine to skip the first 2 seasons.

if you end up liking the shows you can always go back and watch the earlier seasons, or just pick the highest rated episodes. there are some good ones scattered in there.

DS9 is a superior series to TNG if you consider the story arc. With DS9 the whole series follows an outline and is usually headed towards the resolution of the arc. There are a few filler episodes that are sprinkled in for good measure but nothing like the filler episodes in Voyager. ( see captain proton or whatever )

Feel free to skip the Ferengi episodes as soon as you realize that they are the focal point of the episode.

As far as TNG goes Inner Light takes it for me hands down. Picard lives out almost half a lifetime and is able to have the family he has always desired. ( see the Nexus ) Think of the wisdom he attained by experiencing that.

The Drumhead

The one with the overzealous female inquisitor who questions Picard "before the committee"

"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."

Def. agree that the story arcs and less filler in DS9 make it a better series.

The Ferengi episodes , not my favorite but wouldn't call them skipworthy material.

There's usually some good Odo - Quark interaction in some of those.

Another vote for DS9. The acting and character development is probably the best of the three, as is the story arc. Voyager was just lol bad. Janeway "We're going to get back to our own space but not if it means compromising our principles" Chpotle (or whatever his name was) "Toss the b---h out an airlock, give the aliens what they want and let's go home" End of series.

the doctor and 7 of 9 are excellent characters. quick character ranking without putting a ton of thought into it

1. spock
2. kirk
3. data
4. Q
5. picard
6. the doctor
7. 7 of 9
8. garak
9. quark
10. t'pol
11. commander tucker

Big +1 for DS9. The first couple seasons are a bit of a chore to get through, but probably better overall than the first couple seasons of TNG, but the overall arc of the series is way better and the episodes are much less self contained.

"The Visitor" (season four) is an absolutely amazing hour of television IMO, and I am hard pressed to think of a episode of any Trek that I would rank higher.

that was an incredibly good episode. iirc it was a cheap episode too. there have been at least 2 occasions in star trek when the show was low on money and needed to make an especially cheap episode and the episode turned out to be the best of the season if not the whole series.

enterprise did that with "shuttlecraft" or whatever it was called. and i think ds9 did it in season 6 with "in the pale moonlight"

I think it's because they generally hired pretty decent actors, yet were somewhat bogged down with all the extraneous Star Trek stuff, and when you take that away you have the opportunity to make something amazing.

I think "In the Pale Moonlight" is probably my second favourite episode of any trek.

Another Star Trek thread!

I don't think DS9's serialization puts it above TNG, but I can see how some would feel this way.

Janeway/voyager get too much hate, imo. I'm biased, though, because I didn't really get into trek until watching Voyager.

I love the Klingon episodes, but I'm not a big fan of rewatching them.

Def agree with ranking Borg and Q eps highly.

I loved Darmok.

I think all the 2 parters were great, but they were prob all mentioned (I'm pretty bad at remembering episode names)

Mostly just posting to subscribe!

The Visitor and In the Pale Moonlight are easily the 2 best episodes of Trek ever if we are expanding past TNG.

DS9 was amazing--just watch from the point they introduce the Dominion and you'll be fine. Truly excellent series, partly because I think Ronald D. Moore was able to exercise his style and creativity a little more solidly, which is probably why the better parts of DS9 feel like Battlestar Galactica.

Obviously DS9 is the choice, so I should start it at the beginning of Season 3?

Yes to this. Don't think Janeway can get enough hate. I watched the entire series , probably twice and still couldn't remember the 1st officer's exact name until the "chipotle" joke above.

Him , Harry Kim and his friend probably had a total of 10 episodes total over all their seasons devoted to their character development. And probably most of that 10 were for the navigator , don't even remember his name.. lol.
