I liked it. Sort of reminded me of Black Mirror. I wonder what the word count was in that episode. Very little speech.

Super solid season, as good as the early years of the show. I hope they're back for another season.

That's crazy talk to me. I'm fine with them making more and do get some nostalgic value out of them, but this show is a shell of what it was back in the day. I had high hopes for it, but the writing just feels really lazy and uninspired overall, especially in the mytharc episodes. I can't imagine someone who'd never seen the original run seeing these and thinking this is a top-tier show.

As far as another season, I heard Gillian Anderson said she was done after this one and I don't think there's much there worth continuing if you don't at least have Mulder & Scully.

Well, there were 10 episodes this year and only 3 of them were related to the mythology. Two of them were pretty bad but then again there haven't really been any great ones since season 5 or so when it all became convoluted and incomprehensible. I think you are over-romanticizing the initial run, especially the latter half.

The other 7 episodes were monster of the week variety and about as good as any random season. Some were stronger than others but all watchable and a couple were pretty great.

The good mythology episodes died with the Syndicate.

Of course the original run was uneven, especially at the end. If you want to say these new ones are on par with the Doggett/Reyes episodes of the last couple seasons or the mythology close to the season 6-7 ridiculousness, I won't argue with that, but that's not what I think of as "the early years of the show", which is what it was being compared to. I don't really agree that the MotWs were as good as average though, let alone that any were great. They were watchable.
