Episode was definitely meh.
But afraid the two new agents are going to stand in for Mulder and Scully if this gets new episodes.
Maybe the next movie kills off Fox and Dana,so they are trying to soften the blow for when it happens. ???
The entire last episode was just silly, and not in an enjoyable way. It was trying way too hard to be clever and ended up just sucking. Don't even know where to start with that. Really hope the finale can somehow tie this whole mess together but guessing most of it wont.
But yeah only watch last ep if you want to be introduced to Mulder/Scully Jr. as they both appear to be in the finale. Otherwise it's a throwaway ep.
I really thought a 6 episode return would have a 6 episode arc, not just bookend with MOTW inbetween. I did think the lizard man episode was freaking great.
I never saw X-Files while it ran but some of these recent episodes remind me a little of Fringe. Are they similar shows or am I just off base?
Speaking about the entire 6-episode run, I really really wanted to like this as a longtime fan, but imo it was a total mess. Episode 3 (were-monster) was a decent novelty episode, but the rest did nothing for me. I don't even know how to feel about the possibility of another season if that's the best they could come up with after 15 years.
Well I haven't seen the last one yet but given everyone's reactions I'm sort of dreading it now.
Honestly other than the first one being pretty muddled I've enjoyed the rest of the mini season but then I went out of my way to set my expectations as low as possible. The were human episode was the best so far, but I liked the others as well (again, haven't seen the finale yet). And if there's another season tentatively in the offing I'm on board. Although if they pull a switch again with new agents then **** that, Mulder and Scully or bust.
If nothing else this has motivated me to go back and watch some of my old favorite episodes which has been a lot of fun. I forgot how awesome the first part of season 6 is in particular, there's a string of like 6 straight solid to great episodes including Triangle and the Dreamland duo. Good times. I remember why I loved this show so much back in the day.
True story, I actually delayed going to basic for a month because I wanted to watch the season finale of the X-Files for the year. They wanted me to go in May and I basically refused because of the X-Files lol.
Okay I finally watched it and yeah, that was ****ing horrendous. I have a pretty high tolerance for schlock but JFC. I can't even begin to understand WTF they were thinking here.
Agree that if there's no follow-up this is a huge disservice to an otherwise memorable franchise. Quite possibly even worse than if they had just left it with the second movie, which I also found horrendous, if only because the X-Files was always about the show, you could pretty much pretend the second movie never existed. It's harder to pretend this doesn't exist, although right now I wish it didn't.
Crap,I haven't watched the last episode because I've heard nothing but bad thing about it.
I think I won't,I'll just remember a five episode arc that was OK,rather than remember a terrible finale.
If you want a brief synopsis in case it comes back for season 11 just ask someone who watched it for the cliff notes but I wouldn't subject myself to it otherwise.
Episode 3 was brilliant. One of the GOAT in any X-Files season.
I actually liked Episode 5, even though it is probably around the mean of all episodes since the first season.
The other 4 weren't that good. Frankly, I can't even remember anything about what 1 and 2 were all about. Episode 4 was probably in the bottom 5% of all time X-Files episodes.
As to Episode 6, it probably wasn't doable outside a full scale 2 hour movie, with a budget big enough to actually be able to execute it.
i just watched episode 3 and wanted to share my thoughts:
Spoiler:
Firstly, I thought this was a hilarious detour from the story arch that had been set up through episodes 1 and 2. It seemed so out of place, and poorly introduced, as though it was made to squeeze in anywhere between any episode.
That said. I thought it was a pretty cool episode, and what a great performance from Rhys Darby as the monster, truely splendid. A downside of that though was that it made the weak acting of Duchovny stick out like a sore thumb, I think that he was inspired a little by Darby's performance though, as he managed to make more movements with his botoxed-to-paralysis face than he has managed in the previous episodes.
I'm enjoying where this series is going in general though, it's better than I was expecting it to be.
