Well I'm sucked in, wasn't super and the plots a bit muddled but it had enough to keep me interested.

I thought it was great, especially after those terrible movies. Can't wait for ep 2.

Otherwise: monsters.

You mean the best part I think. That is what made the show

Yeah, I always liked the conspiracy stuff in the first 6 seasons until they killed off the Syndicate and then clearly had no idea where to go with it after that in seasons 7-9, when it just became a convoluted mess. Peak X-Files was always the alien colonization/conspiracy arc though.

In the movie there are several scenes of the bad guys conspiring amongst themselves about currying favor with their alien allies, who we see in the flesh in a spaceship. So in the new version were those guys getting conned by an EVEN SECRETER higher level conspiracy of evil dudes?

domer is right, you guys are wrong.

The best X-files were the comedies, second best the horror episodes, the mythology brought up the rear. The conspiracy stuff was the filler at the end and beginning of each season.

Edit: According to Vox, the next episode to air was originally intended to air 5th, but it got moved up because after the series wrapped the suits were like "ehhh, no" on the intended order.

The first episode was certainly sub-par, even for a mythology ep. Way too rushed and muddled, but still no worse than any mythology episode from S7-S9 IMO. Second episode was excellent, had the feel of classic X-Files. These obviously aren't going to be classic eps, but I'll be very happy w/ this miniseries if the other MOTW eps are as good as this one.

Ep. 2... meh. I almost wish these were terrible. Instead they're just kinda forgettable X-Files episodes.

And Fly & domer are wrong. Without the mytharc stuff the X-Files would have been just another episodic TV show about monsters and weird ****. We've had those shows since the late 50's. Multi-season serialized plots were pretty rare 20 years ago and that's a huge part of what made the show notable.

First ep was good, second not so much. I prefer the arc storyline over standalone, especially in a 6 ep series.

lol the first one was not good...the 2nd one was good, creepy, X Files stuff. And like that they're setting up their child as some weird, alien DNA, mutant.

Watched ep.1, I think it was OK. Definitely not the best, but also not the worst. Two concerns tho:

1. Please dont make it "It never was an alien conspiracy, it was all US government", that's bs. X-Files = alien conspiracy, period.
2. Every tv show these days has a ******ed braindead teenage boy, I hope their son will have literally zero screen time in this show.

Second one was better than the first episode.

Then I saw the new series Lucifer afterwards and completely forgot about it.

Second ep was a letdown for me. Just one of those instantly forgettable MOTW eps from the original series.

I just finished season 6 (watching every episode) should I:

-Continue watching every episode before watching the reboot
-Watch all the anthology episodes skipping the monster of the week before watching the reboot
-go ahead and watch the reboot where I am now.

I just rewatched the entire series myself over the last few months and I felt like there was a massive drop-off in quality between seasons 6 & 7. You could tell they had kind of run out of ideas, both in the mythology and the MotWs. I my opinion, season 8 was much better than 7, but very different due to cast changes and still not up to the level of any previous seasons. Season 9 was pretty terrible and just made me wish it would end already.

Quality-wise, you could easily stop after 6 and not really miss much. When people talk about the great episodes or storylines in X-Files history, they're almost never bringing up anything after season 6. From a story perspective, the new episodes so far have referenced at least one major plot line from seasons 8-9 and I assume they'll eventually have to acknowledge what happened to CSM in season 9, so if you haven't seen them before and want to be completely caught up without spoilers, you'd want to at least watch the mythology episodes first. I'd say the rest of those seasons only need to be watched if you're a completionist.

When are women going to give up on the plastic surgery? Scully is painful to look at. What the hell was she thinking?

I want to be mad they wasted an episode that could be spent on mythology but that was fun to watch.
