I'm going into this expecting it to be horrible and hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

I'm done with the abridged Season 1 and agree that the finale is really good. I've said it before but it's amazing how well this show holds up to current TV despite being over 2 decades old

Series premier is getting somewhat mixed reviews. Nobody is saying it sucked, but nobody seems to be saying it was great either. Season format is going to be mythology for ep. 1 and 6, MOTW ep. 2-5.

I'm up to season 2, episode 10. The quality of the episodes is still top notch. There were a few crappy episodes, but most of them have been great.

I actually really enjoyed the last episode I watched, Red Museum

A few comments about that episode:

Spoiler:
I really enjoyed this episode. The two rating blogs I linked to above didn't give this episode a very good grade... but I thought it was great! One of the blogs mentioned this was Carter's favorite episodes of the season though. I think the reason I liked the episode so much is that it was a really good mystery. In a lot of the episodes, I feel like you always pretty much know what's going on... there's a clear bad guy and the episodes are pretty straight forward. With this one, I was wondering how the pervert guy, the religious people, the hormones, the kids in the woods, etc. all fit together. By the end of the episode, it all came together pretty nicely and made sense. Near the end of the episode, I was like "oh, I get it now, but then I guess the religious people have nothing to do with anything...." and then Scully mentions in her report how they were used as the control group. I guess I just thought that this was really clever and I didn't really realize that until she mentioned it right at the end.

Glad they went with the classic intro sequence instead of something completely new - that was a really good touch.

Is the second part of episode 1 really episode 2 or is it episode 1.5

Not bad. I don't think it completely succeeded in translating the mid-90's gestalt to the present day, but not bad.

I thought the title sequence looked older than dirt tho. I don't need some whiz bang reimagining. Just, you know, clean that **** up a bit. Run some filters or whatever so I'm thinking about something other than how inferior broadcast TV resolution was 20 years ago.

Kinda bummed on how much "they" was used .

Made so much of the dialogue cheesy and trite.

Still will watch tomorrow.

This was terrible but the reviewers that got the first three said that the 2nd and 3rd(especially the 3rd) episodes were much better, more monster-of-the-week and less Infowars.com product placement

I was underwhelmed. The whole plot just seemed very rushed, but I guess that's what happens when you only do 6 new episodes and only 2 are related to the whole alien conspiracy mythology. It's just impossible both catch up with the characters and construct a story with the depth of what they did over the course of the first 6 seasons with so little time.

Definitely looking forward to the monster-of-the-week type episodes coming up, where they can hopefully focus on a good 40-minute sci-fi story instead on trying to tie together and resolve every conspiracy ever imagined.

That was rushed as ****. Obviously wasn't a great episode, but still happy to see xfiles back on. I have more hope for next episodes.

My brother works for Fox and has seen them all. Says the third is the best, but that it's still not as good as a halfway decent episode from the original run.

Why are you quoting me and posting another critic who has only seen the first 3 episodes? All the critics say the third episode is the best of the three they have seen, and they're hopeful that it's the start of a strong run for the conclusion. But I'm telling you my brother has seen all six and says the third is an anomaly that is only good because it was done by Darin Morgan.

It's been some time since I watched the original/movies, but I thought it was confirmed (multiple times) that there was an actual Alien conspiracy going on - not just a government conspiracy using Alien tech.

Just in case anybody has forgotten (or hasn't seen) the end of Season 9:

Spoiler:
The Smoking Man got blown the **** up by a direct hit from a helicopter gunship. Even for the X-Files, it's a pretty bold retcon for him to be alive. And the cast listing for future episodes suggest even more egregious back from the dead cameos.

Yeah im hoping they dont completely write the alien conspiracy going on. It just makes no sense after all that's happened.
