No dialog, he's just in the background, sitting at the bar.

What's also great about that scene is that throughout the series, there are short snippets of Rawls trying to be "one of the guys", like checking out Jay's nudie mags. But in S3 is where Rawls lays this on the thickest, notably when he eviscerates Colvin for presenting non-doctored stats:

Quote:
You're having a laugh, aren't you, Bunny? You got the real stats and projections somewhere else. Someone's just outside with them, right? A stripper, maybe? That would be nice. She comes in, flashes a little tit, gives us a whiff of muff and delivers my ****ing stat sheets with a reduction that matches what we promised the Mayor. That would be beautiful.

Went to see BlacKKKlansman and did a spit-take when he appeared in that movie and delivered the “Sheeeeeeeeeeeit” line.

Re: THE WIRE (discussion)

I liked BlacKKKlansman, although I might be a bit biased as someone I know has a big role in that movie. I also lol'd pretty hard when the "shieeeeeeeeeeeeet" line was delivered.

I'd give it 4/5 stars, my only gripe really is that at times it kinda felt like Lee couldn't decide whether he wants it to be a comedy or a thriller. It was certainly really funny but I thought the actual story fell a little flat.

(I'm not from the States and thus don't follow all the American racism / KKK / etc madness that closely, I have a hunch some aspects of the movie might resonate more with American viewers. I did think that Lee did a tremendous job at delivering a very important message via comedy, though.)

I really liked it. A little choppy in spots, but good acting all around.

I first heard Isiah Whitlock do the line in 25th hour in 2002

Then Clay Davis made it famous

Re: THE WIRE (discussion)

The biggest problem with Season 5 is that at the newspaper the characters are either completely honorable (Gus, Alma) or without redeeming characteristics within their role (Templeton, the boss who rewards him).

Contrast that with Frank Sobotka who does bad things but at least in his heart is doing the right thing, even if it is as indefensible as offering his brother the no-show union management position. Even Nick is presented as someone who might have avoided the whole situation if he could just get more hours.

Re: THE WIRE (discussion)

wasnt season 5 during the writers strike? and it was less episodes than the other season or than intended I think? so its likely they would have fleshed the characters out more and given them more nuance without the strike.

Season 5 wrapped late summer 2007, month before the strike began.

Not sure if they ever revealed the reason for shorting the last season from 13 to 10 episodes, but if I had to guess I would say that even at HBO, the combination of mediocre ratings and high production cost isn’t desirable.

Re: THE WIRE (discussion)

If I remember correctly it was something like 1 party wanted to wrap it up and the other party wanted 2 more seasons or something like that. They met in the middle ground and that's what brought about the crapfest that was season 5.

Re: THE WIRE (discussion)

I recently rewatched the last few episodes of season 5 and had a few issues.

1. To make bail Cheese needs to put up his uncle's house (lol the same uncle he just had murdered but anyway). But a few episodes later he has 5m cash money to put down on buying the connect. So could he just not put up cash for bail bc it would look super shady? Also, they said something about a fake lien on the house so I guess the fake lien was a way to siphon cash to the bail bondsman without it actually looking like cash?

2. Maury has to, he absolutely has to and must know that Herc gave up the cell number. Herc is the ONLY person with access. I guess he doesnt care and is happy about it bc as he says "getting Marlow off on a multi million dollar drug best will put his card in the pocket of every self respecting balmer drug dealer."

3. Maury should have figured it was an illegal wire tap without Herc

4. Was pretty great when Maury told Marlow, "No lawyer is gonna get you a better deal kid" when actually if he wasnt dirty the whole crew would have walked and Partlow would only get 1 murder. Maury hung his clients out to dry to save himself lol.

Re: THE WIRE (discussion)

Fans of Michael K. Williams (Omar) can find him in a medium role on The Boardwalk Empire, which is another show I love. Herc and Prez have appearances as well.

Thanks for this thread. Got me rewatching.

Also, props to Rhonda Pearlman. Hot in a unique way.

Michael K. Williams also in The Night Of on HBO. But he killed it on Boardwalk Empire. It's a medium role the way Omar is a medium role on the ensemble of The Wire.
