Whodunnit? (Murder Myster gameshow like "The Mole") Whodunnit? (Murder Myster gameshow like "The Mole")

Airtime: Sundays, 9pm EST
Channel: ABC
Where to watch to get caught up: free on Hulu. They are around halfway through the season right now.

Premise: Cross between the movie Clue and the reality/game show The Mole. 13 contestants show up at a mansion. 1 is murdered. Each contestant gets an opportunity to search 1 of 3 places for clues (usually crime scene, body in the morgue or last known whereabouts). They can then all talk to each other or form alliances or whatever. Then at the end, like in The Mole, they go to private confession and have to try and reconstruct what happened, then guess which contestant they think is the killer.

Whoever does worst is the next person killed, and remaining contestants recreate that murder etc. It's pretty cool that they actually use the real contestant, cover them in appropriate gore makeup or whatever to signify the manner of death. The end of each episode has 15seconds of comments by the 'dead' player in full makeup talking about their death and their time on the show.

Murders: Remember the riddle "a guy is found dead by hanging, below him is a puddle of water, how did he die?". The murders are all of this type, kinda of elaborate, lots of red herrings, etc. But they all are solvable if people share enough information.

It's no Breaking Bad, but there's not a lot of new shows on in summer, and if you liked the movie Clue, the show The Mole, or murder mystery riddles, this show is one for you that you may not have heard of.

This show is absolutely ridiculous. I have seen every episode and can't stop watching. Yet I struggle every week wondering. Is this stupid show made of real actors? or are they real folks told to act in a certain way and react in a certain way by the producers?

+1 to above
I watch it however the way the people react to every "murder" is just extremely staged and makes me wonder if the whole thing is staged. There are other things that make me think this too but this one tops the cake.

Was wondering how long it would take before this show would get its own thread. TBH I thought it would be sooner, given this is the best new show of the summer. With the MVP of the show being Giles

Giles feels like he has some ridiculous dark passenger inside of him ALA Dexter. The real question is WHODUNNIT? To me I think it is going to be Melina. She seems way over the top and stresses out every time I really think it is going to be her at the end. I do think if this is real Kam definitely has to be your rooting interest. Seems much more calm and cool about every. Or maybe Kris because she is a babe.

i also think its melina. there have been a few moments when people are talking, scheming, around dinner table or whatever where she has given the worst poker face reaction to things.

its a huge contrast to people like Geno who were really obviously trying to play and do well and had no clue.

this is obviously the case, but i don't see why that makes it bad. It would be far worse if the people didn't pretend like the victims were really dead bodies and instead just laughed or looked awkward at a person there in makeup.

I don't think there's anything wrong with telling contestants to pretend its real during the cut scenes, then play the game normally during the game phase.

This is bang on.

I suspected Melina from the very first episode (also told my friend right away so that I had proof of this lol :P). The way I narrowed it down to her is that I figured that everyone else was being genuine in wanting to solve the game / working with others / reacting to others - they are genuinely paranoid or wanting to win, whereas Melina is just kind of floating around with horrible staged reactions. If SOMEHOW it's not Melina, then Chris/Kris (?) is my secondary suspect, but meh, it should really be Melina. And it's funny because I think Melina may be the only person that hasn't been fingered yet by anyone in the house.

And Cam has def been my rooting interest from the get-go and I'm so happy that he and his alliance managed to beat out the other alliance.

Edit:
Wrt to the staged reactions in general: Well, of course. It's naturally in the spirit of the game that they react to the deaths as if they are real deaths. They are being told to play along and because it's not real deaths, it's obviously coming across as fake and as actor-y :P

It's a great show with a great cast. I hope it gets renewed for more seasons. The funniest thing is after the first episode viewers were confused about whether the murders were actually real or not, that's why they added the exit interviews with victims at the end of each episode.

do they give the "victims" drugs to knock them out? or they just don't show the movements of the victims during the investigations?

I didn't expect to like this show but I do.
The production value of the murder scenes is impressive for a relatively low-budget production.
Even though, they drag out the conclusion of the scared/spared a bit in the end I think it's still within reason for a reality show.

In intenionally didn't watch the opening "previously on ..." segment and the preview segment so I don't know the whole picture of it but I think there aren't any obvious non-suspects, even though, editing-wise some feel more obvious than others by strong-edit/weak suspect logic.

I'm still hoping for the ultimate mindf(*& in the end that Giles the butler is the murderer all along but most likely it'll be Melina or Kris, maybe even Lindsey who I haven't ruled out, yet.

Yeah, i see it kinda like those weekend getaway trips they have. Where you know your going into a murder mystery game, sometimes they do them on trains, sometimes in a mansion. Everyone knows its fake murders but play along for the fun of it. And i see this as the same thing except they are filming. So even if there weren't cameras i think the people would try and play along. But sometimes prolly laugh, obviously producers edit those parts out, and maybe make them reshoot certain scenes to make them look more scared. But i believe they are in a real competition trying to win the money. Noone really thinks anyone is dying or in fear for their life, but they are in a real reality game competition. I think it's possible some of the contestants(besides the murderer) could be in on it. But most are really competing. It's like a clue game.

I enjoy it even though i'm never scared. I like trying to figure out who the murderer is, love mysteries/guessing. I liked mole too. I thought it was the fat southern chick Dana who was on the block with Don? I always think its the person acting over-emotional at dinner. And also never think its someone called out as the murderer. As producers would edit out real call outs to keep it a mystery for the audience. They always have people saying Cam: "i know its you Gino" Gino: "i know its you cam". Not for one minute did i think it was either of them.

p.s. Was waiting for someone to make a thread on this show. Cool show, but hopefully clean up a few things to make it slightly more suspensful next season(if there is one) somehow. Giles is good. He reminds me of the ghost bartender in the shining. Always wickedly/creepily smiling while evil is all around.

Finishing up the first episode. Confused at the contestants naming who they think did the Murder when none of them were involved with it?

Is a different contestant responsible for each subsequent murder or is one of the contestants the chosen murderer going into the show?

I'm mostly wondering if one of the contestants is an actor and the killer or if they're all legitimate contestants.

will be interesting next week if Melina is the killer. if the other 3 are freezing her out, the producers may have to slightly change up how next week goes in order to not completely give it away that she's the killer by her not dying even though she has only 1/3 the information of everyone else. For example, they may rig the riddle part of the game to ensure she wins it, to justify her sticking around to the finale to the other contestants.

I'm curious. Do we actually know for certain that out of the 2 or 3 people that gets a scared card, that it's whoever of those that performed the worst in "State your case" that is killed? Or rather: Is that what they have said on the show? Otherwise I think maybe it's just supposed to be the murderer/the producers deciding who gets killed out of the worst 2, so that'd be the excuse for Melina surviving - the murderer opted to kill the other person instead.

It is known that the lowest score is eliminated. The wiki page explains the process and references several articles of interviews with producers and eliminated contestants as the source.

From looking at those interivews, I learned 2 things that may change what its like to watch:
1. There is actually an unshown written test of ~15 short answer questions, with the lowest score eliminated, ties broken by time. The "state your case" confessional is just the contestants summarizing their answers for the camera as a more enjoyable viewing experience than the way the Mole just looked over people's shoulder taking a test.
2. The killer doesn't actually know the answers. they actually have to try and play the game to figure it out and can't accidentally slip up and give anything away. If the killer receives a scare card, they actually got a low score on the test, it's not just for deceptive purposes. Killer is immune to elimination though, even if they score lowest.

So if you were watching like i was, thinking you might catch the killer accidentally spewing TMI, that's impossible.

Not sure I am reading this correctly.

Does the killer know they are the killer?

Always thought it was dumb that if you played Clue/Cluedo you could be the killer and not know the answer. Obviously it makes no difference from a gameplay perspective, but still.

The killer knows that they're the killer, but they don't know how the murder was performed so they have to solve the riddle like everyone else.

Melina went up to the other 3 and said "one of you might be the killer", "MIGHT" be??? lol wat?" If whodunnit was werewolf, melina would be getting lynched every time after making a statement like that.

I wonder if the producers are just doing a psychout during the smokescreen and Melina is still alive and the murder will take place during the opening of the next show.

Giles pointing out Cris never being scared is obv an attempt to cast suspicion on her. I bet it's Lindsey.
