I feel like they had to be in on the joke. The only one who even looked at him like he was nuts was Bernie. The dude laughing at the wife rape joke should be pretty ****ed though.

The show would be pointless if the guests were in on it.
I watched this expecting something hilarious like Borat was. To me he was so over the top ridiculous that everyone figured out they were getting punked and just played along. The gun stuff at the end even seems like it's scripted and all taken out of context.
If Airplane style rapid fire jokes are your thing, don't bother. But this is a funny, funny show especially when you pause to think about what went into it, in terms of time and effort and the variety of characters.
Two questions:
Will it be these four characters all season, or will there be others?
Did anyone else catch Nathan Fielder (of Nathan For You) listed in the credits. I wonder how he was involved?
Truly unbelievable. Is it just that the one character who goes after liberals is the least believable? Seems Bernie and Koppel have been the only two not buying it so far. It's scary how easy he's gotten some of these people.
Chris Morris set the template for this sort of thing with Brass Eye. All the episodes are up on YouTube. The public figures won't be recognisable as this is British and from 1997 but I I don't think it's crucial. He got a BBC radio DJ to read out that paedophiles have more in common genetically with crabs than other human beings, then proceeded to bash a dead crab with a hammer.
SBC has been doing this for about 20 years. He can steer his targets a certain way quite reliably, so he knows what to say next. But he can improvise too. Part of the craft is feeling out how far to push it (turns out, pretty far) but obviously this is going to be edited to make the target seem as ridiculous as possible. I don't have a problem with that - they provided the raw materials.
I'm glad this exists because it's ****ing hilarious but also because anybody who is duped damn well deserves it. These stumps have made the news. They directly affect politics and that can only be a good thing.
