Between loving Night Of and largely missing the point of this show, Alan Sepinwall is having a rough 2016. http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-wat...as-in-chestnut

Joe,

Weird recap, it almost seems like he's barely paying attention. But the funniest part to me was this passage: "For that matter, the show hasn't done a great job of articulating the appeal of what appears to be an incredibly expensive place to visit. Yes, you can have your way with the hosts in terms of sex and violence..." uhhhh yeah I think that would be plenty popular to lots of people!

Visiting Westworld is like half a step away from actually time traveling to the old west. I'm guessing that would have at least a little appeal.

If you were in the "non-sociopath" boat, I think it would be hard to enjoy any time there with other guests...

How many times could/would you be sitting through dinner only to be interrupted by a stabbing or a random shooting (Now that's what I call a ****ing vacation!!!).

If you segregated yourself from the general population to a have a solo experience (or a "family time" experience) it could possibly work.

And if you were a sociopath, or even just wanted to let yourself go for a week or play as the bad guy? I can see it being very very hard to return to normal life after having that experience.

It's hard enough to go back to work after a long weekend as it is.

All that said, I still want to go there. The concept is fascinating.

I thought that line was annoying. A world like that could be much more than exploring sociopathic impulses, but those are what the show seems to focus on.

It could present visitors with legitimately difficult moral choices, for example. Just saying "wheeeee, let's just rape and shoot everything in sight" sounds actually quite boring.

Well they spent some of ep 2 weaving in some of those themes with HOC hacker guy

I may just avoid this thread because I actually enjoy this show and there are some ridiculous nits being picked already

A kid will begin and end high school before this show has wrapped up its intended arc. There is a lot of arc guessing for a very long map after the second episode. It's not constructive, but people want to feel like they're at the forefront of a show for whatever reason.

Actually, "Jurassic Park" was "Westworld" with dinosaurs. At the time "Jurassic" came out, Michael Chreighton said that "Westworld" had led him to it.

Disagree. This fits in perfectly with the "lawless old west" setting. I have to imagine that's why old west was chosen as the theme, in fact.

That's an interesting point. I suppose if you're going to Westworld, you're not really going to relax in the conventional sense.

You want to be on your toes at all times. Makes me think it might not be the best vacation for certain personality types (such as the seemingly skittish Will).

Does Twilight Zone still hold up? I've never seen a single episode but I'm afraid it didn't age too well since it's so old.

It largely stands the test of time as one of the best TV shows in history.

Most of the eps have more modern day relevance than much of the trash on tv currently

Bernard is definitely the 'big bad' this season. He seems to be the one pushing the hosts into revolt... I just wish I could see where this is going
