Quote:
President Bartlet is actually a dreadful president, and the show portrays this. As Savage points out, “after two terms in the White House, Bartlet’s gang of hyper-educated, hyper-competent politicos do not seem to have any transformational policy achievements whatsoever.” Bartlet’s speechwriting team, like Obama’s, is stuffed with Ivy League white guys who are great at talking and bad at listening. These men are sexist and smug. They rationalize bureaucratic inertia as pragmatism. They think reeling off statistics about agricultural subsidies is “doing politics.” They strut down hallways looking purposeful, without having any idea of where they’re going.

middle east peace?!?!?!?! lol!!! are you ****ing kidding?? did you not see the 9/11 episode? that episode is absurd propaganda about how they hate us for our freedoms lol!!! obviously bartlett admin went to war in the middle east, they just didn't talk about it on the show.

or maybe you are just talking about the israel palestine deal. i don't remember the specifics, but no way in hell did palestine get a voice on this show.

iirc the female judge was friends with the other judge who like eugenics. these are just fictional characters so we dont have real dirt on them. but in real life they would have tons of dirt, just like RBG, and if you think is a hero for progress, i can give example after example of how awful she was. racist, corporatist etc

the edward james olmos judge seems pretty cool, but i don't remember everything.

i'd need to rewatch to argue better

this is just off the top of my head

The ideology of people like you [and the show] needs to be crushed along with the far right.

None of that is from the show. It’s just pure bullshit you made up. For plot of the episode is them literally saving the new deal. Josh even quotes that.

but just in general, that these people feel the need to aggressively defend the liberals of a fake tv show just proves that the whole "snowflake" label is on the mark.

(It's possible the person who answered that Quora question is making these quotes up I suppose.)

Quote:
GAINES: So, you're saying that you'll ask the Democrats to trim benefits over the next 20 years, raise the retirement age over the next 60 years and give up on this issue forever.

TURNER: If I can tell them that you'll settle for small, optional private accounts on top of Social Security, and raise the income limit on Social Security taxes.
And here's Toby, absolute piece of ****:

Quote:
BRAINERD: I won't raise the retirement age.

TOBY: No, no, no... we have to share the pain!

BRAINERD: Easy for us to say, we don't carry sheet metal for a living. We don't work hard, physical jobs like welding or plumbing.

TOBY: Americans are retiring in their 60s, living until their 80s, FDR didn't intend to pay for 20 years of shuffleboard.
God, **** off so hard Sorkin.

The whole basis of this conflict is playing off of real life right-wing myths that "Social Security is going bankrupt", and is simply furthering that propaganda. The show has a trash ideology - it's perfectly fine to admit this and still enjoy the show! There's plenty of fun fascist action movies out there too.

"Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush between them:

- appointed the first woman Supreme Court Justice
- appointed the second Black Supreme Court Justice
- doubled the Dow Jones
- fought against drugs
- fought against crime
- crippled Saddam Hussein's evil regime
- ended the Cold War"

- Clovis and Dominic probably

"saved social security"

saved it from what? this phrasing, like baltimore jones said, implies that social security was insolvent and needed saving

you might as well say that bush and reagan also "saved social security", as long as you're just throwing the bs around.

bush appointed the first hispanic da, alberto gonzalez. iirc

and first african american woman condi rice secretary of state

Obama "saved" social security after he offered it up to cut debt after shipping billions to to bail out the banks.
