I’m not sure why I’m still watching this show. I literally have no idea what is going on half the time.

I'm in a behind the scenes video, too. Needless to say, I've been quite happy this week.

My dad saw it today. He doesn't typically watch violent or gross movies. When he saw it, he was like, "Hey there you are! Oh...OHHHHHHHH!!!"

Then he started cracking up.

I know I did this a couple seasons ago and I know most people just hate watch the show now, but if anyone has questions about my experience, just ask. I'll answer what I can without violating an NDA.

Congrats! Did your previous experience on the show help you get one of the premier zombie shots or was that just luck of the draw? Can it lead to other roles such as being one of Negan's extras or something?

how did they do the special effect (you getting stabbed in the face) and how many takes?

It's a little of both, I think. I'm on the casting company's roster of walkers, so they contact me if they need people. I'm not one of their elite regulars/ultra skinny extras, so I tend to just get asked when they need a lot of zombies, but I was once contacted for a scene with just two walkers (they later let me know they didn't need me).

I don't typically know how juicy of a role I'm getting until I arrive and even then there's no guarantee that I'll get to do anything cool. Those in charge of placing extras in scenes usually just make the decisions on the spot.

This scene was interesting. Most of the zombies were extras who were previously Kingdomers from other episodes and therefore had never had practice walking as zombies or doing kill falls. Normally, all the walkers are people specifically cast to be zombies, even if they didn't have previous experience or go to zombie school.

I got the sense that those cast as "hero walkers" - the ones with cool close-ups - were experienced walkers that casting trusted. Plus, and here's one spot I got lucky, since we were freshly turned zombies, they didn't necessarily want the really skinny ones.

The two who got their heads sliced right before me were Kingdomers who got moved to the front because the powers that be liked the latex prosthetics they had. I'm not the greatest walker in the world (though I am proud of the job I did in this episode), but I was impressed with those two, in particular, as they had never practiced walking and falling like a zombie. They did a nice job.

It's still very much luck of the draw, though. You never know if you'll get cast as a "hero" walker or get put way in the background. In my case, I was even luckier. Though I was cast as a "hero" (which is unusual for me - I'm usually mid-ground), I was not originally picked for that specific kill. The assistant director chose someone else on the day, but after some rehearsal, they realized she was too short and needed someone at a similar eye line to Jerry. Enter me!

From what I can tell, they usually keep extras who were walkers in that role. I have applied to be a survivor a few times and never got picked. Plus, as far as Saviors go, they usually want people tougher looking than me.

I'm guessing that if they are keeping detailed records of things that I will never get a chance to be a survivor now since my face is very visible and I look like myself in that scene (as opposed to be completely covered in latex). That's cool, though. I basically just hit peak Walking Dead.

so.. nobody comments how a machinegun from top of a building/barn/whatever on a huuuuge distance absolutely rapes everyone but the king, and moments later same type of machinegun cant finish a car off driving 5-10 meters behind it in snailpace or well, hit the driver idk about 400 rounds were fired and np boys i got this said darryl as he oneshots with a pistol? That car-chase was one of the more stupid ones ive ever seen in a long time.

A bunch of takes were close-ups of Jerry's face where only the back/side of my head would be seen, so I had a mat to fall on. With those, I literally took one step and got stabbed. It doesn't look like they used any of those shots, though.

Then, a lot of takes (like the ones used in the show) were from distances/angles where it was possible that my entire body or the ground would be seen, so I didn't get to have a mat. It was just compacted dirt and gravel. I had elbow and knee pads under my clothes.

I fell to my knees, so the knee pads helped, then subtly braced myself with my elbow when I completed the fall to my right.

I still got really banged up, though. I eventually hit my hip a few times and since I committed to falling HARD, I had three gigantic bruises. When I came back the next day to just lie dead, I wrapped some wash cloths around my hip - just lying there hurt. I also bruised my knee despite the pads because a couple times I didn't hit the fattest part of the padding. Whatever, it was still awesome.

At one point, when Cooper (Jerry) helped me up, I told them that there was a reason 20-somethings were cast for this more than 40-somethings. I said, "To quote Danny Glover...."

Khary (Ezekiel) completed the sentence for me: "I'm getting too old for this ****."

I was so tilted Carol didn't die. I am so sick of grandma bad ass. Even in this show it's ridiculous.
