Uh, wat. It was actually quite a good episode. I was slightly confused at the beginning as to what was going on, but once I caught up mentally, it was interesting.
A couple things unrelated to the above response:
1) I tuned into the beginning of the aftershow and it was explained why Rick and crew didn't just shoot Negan right away. Basically, Rick really only wanted Negan dead and didn't want to have to have a firefight. He wanted the lieutenants to turn on Negan or surrender and basically leave Negan by himself. Rick didn't want to risk tons of lives, including all the workers inside (though he was obviously prepared to fight).
2) For all the criticisms we've had of the writing, Morgan's "I don't die" line was fantastic.
