The Walking Dead - Season 8 The Walking Dead - Season 8

I'll still make fun of it, but this season has started out nice. The old man Rick scenes were odd, but about 90% of the episode was action oriented without long soliloquies about the meaning of life or long tortured staring.

Ya, I was disappointed this episode didn't suck that bad. I mean it still sucked of course but not to the standard I have grown to expect.

H,5:

THERE'S JUST NO WAY TO EVALUATE THAT EPISODE AND GET BEYOND THE FACT THAT THEY WERE THERE WITH AN ARSENAL OF MODERN MILITARY FIREPOWER 20 YARDS AWAY FROM NEGAN AND LIEUTENANTS OUT IN THE WIDE OPEN JUST CHATTING IT UP INSTEAD OF KILLING NEGAN!!!

I thought the point of the s7 finale was that they were signing up for a war in which the castaways were horribly outnumbered. Did Shiva make a buffet of most of the saviors?

I guess the implication is that between all the guys they sniped and the booby trap they set for the convoy of Negan's vehicles, that they took out a big chunk of their remaining army?

Lol someone on the Reddit tried to say that the reason that no one shot Negan was that they needed to break his hold psychologically first before killing him and this response was good

Quote:
Rick needs to break the hold negan has on his men

yeah, by killing him

negan just becomes a martyr and his men fight harder.

No, his power isn't based on ideology but fear.

They went there to shatter the illusion of security that negan provides.

You know what would have really shattered the illusion? F*cking killing him.

Should have just had Ezekiel in drag play future Michonne. Wouldn't have had to pay another actor, and they film this on Tyler Perry's lot, so plenty of wardrobe options available.

Wouldn't crack the top 10 of ridiculous things to happen on this show, anyway.

"I hope you've got your sh****ng pants on"
WTF is that line? I have to assume it's from the comic books. So in typical TWD writer fashion they take some dumb line from the comic book but probably leave out so much other cool stuff.
If that is an original line and not from the comic book someone should be ashamed...

It was weird how Negan ran off with his lieutenants into the safety of a building then the next thing you know he was outside on his own rolling about on the floor.

If Gabriel becomes a prisoner that is pretty lol, but also what I assume is going to happen. He is armed and Negan appears unarmed, instead of shooting him, he will surrender out of respect or something?

Apparently if you are in a dangerous situation where others can shoot you, the best defense is walk into the line of fire with a huge grin on your face.

There is no reason Rick and company couldn't have opened fire on them as soon as they walked out. Negan was there with all his generals. It couldn't have been because of Eugene's presence, because Rick already proved that Eugene was dispensable when they were willing to blow him up to get to Negan last season.

I make fun of this show a lot but last season and this season are miles ahead of the earlier seasons. There is some bad writing, some logic gaps, but it's nothing compared the gaping logic chasms and long drawn out self serious philosophizing about humanity in earlier seasons. Sadly that means it's dropped out of the "so bad it's good (for a laugh)" category and settled into a B- post apocalypse drama.

Negan is the stupidest television character of all time.

I think the top three is:

Negan
Urkel
Cousin Oliver on the Partridge Family

Uh, wat. It was actually quite a good episode. I was slightly confused at the beginning as to what was going on, but once I caught up mentally, it was interesting.

A couple things unrelated to the above response:

1) I tuned into the beginning of the aftershow and it was explained why Rick and crew didn't just shoot Negan right away. Basically, Rick really only wanted Negan dead and didn't want to have to have a firefight. He wanted the lieutenants to turn on Negan or surrender and basically leave Negan by himself. Rick didn't want to risk tons of lives, including all the workers inside (though he was obviously prepared to fight).

2) For all the criticisms we've had of the writing, Morgan's "I don't die" line was fantastic.

Exactly zero people were surprised by Aaron's boyfriend being shot.

OMG a random character from 7 seasons ago is brought back!

90% of this episode was people shooting at each other with nothing happening.

I was laughing my ass off at the oh-so-dramatic close-up and dissolve montage of the main characters at the beginning. So bad.
