dont know.

we learned at the end of season 1 that all humans already have the virus. the zombification just activates through death because the brain doesn't fully shut off or something.

Spoiler:
in the comic, the hunters are killed by rick, michonne, abraham, and andrea after eating some of dale but before dale turns. then andrea takes dale out of his misery so don't really learn there. the show writers can easily twist this.

It was worth a try. Who knows, Maggie might have even ended up hooking up with the hot Washington-bound chick.. which is what my mind keeps wandering to when anyone in this show is talking.

With all the silliness that is this show this is actually what really bugs me for some reason. IF everyone already has the virus, what difference does getting bit (or eating tainted meat) make from a viral standpoint? Yeah you don't want your throat ripped out, but even now the show is still written and filmed as if the slightest nip is potentially fatal. If that's the case - why isn't everyone dead already?

At some point it would be nice if they'd at least attempt an explanation for this. Even a silly convoluted explanation would be better than just ignoring the contradiction.

the slightest nip isn't fatal, as we've seen in two of the best minutes of the entire series. amputation prevents the person bitten from dying:

i assume it's an infection from a bite that kills the person. explanation is that the infection can spread very fast. the walkers are decomposing, unsanitary creatures so why their bites not be degenerative?

not sure that's so contradictory, but that does remind me why eating tainted meat would kill someone.

I said potentially fatal - if something drastic such as amputation isn't done. Hershel is the first person that comes to mind concerning this subject.

The implication has always been that people in this series are worried about dying from zombie bites because of whatever it is that makes people into zombies. To my recollection there has never been any indication the concern is about dying from some other more normal infection that might be present in zombie saliva (rabies etc.)

Not a big deal. I just like ludicrous premises to at least be ludicrous in a consistent way.

That shouldn't be a problem in this case. The Black Dude meat should be pretty fresh.

Wow, you solved it. Dude was bitten but then the hunters captured him, cut his leg off that he was bitten on and thus saved his life! Damn these writers are clever.
WTF is up with all these people taking nighttime strolls in the middle of the night and in the middle of the forest during the zombie apocalypse? So annoying.

TWD is just balancing a number of tropes out of the zombie genre that don't fit well together.

Zombies want to eat the living.
All Dead people become/became animated zombies
Zombie bites kill you.

How much of the leg did they take off? I don't know that you're feeding 8+ people on just a calf.

They cut off Hershel's leg probably within 2 minutes of him getting bit, Bob has been about 2 hours, if he was bit, he should be turning pretty damn soon.

My theory is that something in the walker's saliva "activates" the virus. So when you get bit walker saliva enters your bloodstream and viola you are a walker.

This also explains how walker blood can be smeared all over your body for camouflage yet it doesn't cause you to turn...

The subject of my prior rant. Beyond the possible need to apply Neosporin there's no apparent reason effects from zombie bites should matter to anyone.

Dying causes you to turn. Bites cause a fatal fever. Seems pretty simply actually.

If zombie bites transmit a different non-airborne fatal viral infection unrelated to the apparently airborne transmittable virus that actually causes the reanimation after death, sure. I'd accept that, but I wouldn't call it simple

Maybe Truman's buddy from S1 engineered 2 new viruses instead of just 1.

if we wanna nit it up even more, bathing in a slimepool that is half water half zombiegoo would probably kill you aswell if a bite kills you in hours. Remember they tried to pull a zomb out of a well by using glennbait because of fear of the zomb contaminating the water if they shoot it first. (LIKE IT ALREADY HADNT, it was drooling blood and had bites on its own on its body) We catch fevers from less contaminated and by less dangerous stuff by sharing the same bathtub for christs sake. Lots of small cuts, bad nails, skinrubs in a zombieapocalypse id imagine and in bobs case, taking a dive in this half zombiegoo half "water" shoveling it down your lungs while you fight a zombie should kill you eventually.

IF he isnt fatally ill then I dont know whats up, and if they can eat him NP then they can eat zombieflesh aswell aslong as they COOK IT REAL GOOD killing any feverinducing bacteria! Atleast any walker that is somewhat newturned, shower them in salt, should be plenty to loot and store them in a cold earth cellar! voila!

How long has it been since the first zombies? 2 years? max? I don't buy that they would turn to cannibalism so fast. I mean the group found a huge cache of canned goods withing miles of Terminus. They couldn't plant food? Hunt deer/boar etc.? Now that people are gone I'd imagine the game population would explode. Eating people is something that happens in an environment like the one in The Road. No sun, no animals etc... In fact, the end scene with Bob seemed like a direct ripoff of the The Road. There's a scene where the father finds several people shackled in a basement and one of them has had his leg removed just like Bob.

It's been less than 20 months I think. Judith is under 1, can't walk, and could have been conceived within the first weeks by Shane.

Cannibalism doesn't surprise me. The people at Terminus went from hippie socialists to primitive transhumanists after being violated.
