First episode was tonight. Looks like we got another good season in store

http://www.bravotv.com/top-chef/season-10

Everyone is going to hate John Tesar and Kristen Kish is hot and looks like a killer in the kitchen.

Ch,

Damn, their omelets sure did look like ****.

And yeah, Kristen is hot!

I think that Italian chick will be hated too.

I enjoyed how gimmick-free the first episode was. Hopefully it continues that way.

The John Tesar casting is just troubling to me, he seems overly established for a TC contestant and was obviously thrown in to create drama.

This episode was pretty good, but something still bothers me about sending a bunch of people home before the actual Seattle part starts. This was better than Texas though.

I was amused with Tom's challenge. The other challenges were cook a salad, omelette, and soup. Tom's challenge was let me watch you all and give you completely random tasks.

I think this could be the best premiere they have ever done. Splitting up the groups geographically and task-wise helped me keep track of all the different participants. Usually the pilot is overwhelming and I am constantly wondering, "who's that?", but this time I had a pretty good bead on every contestant. My only complaint is that Wolfgang Puck seemed to be a very soft judge, I figured that burnt/falling apart omelette would be an auto DQ, as it should be, but Wolfgang didn't seem to give a ****.

yea, I don't fully get that one. But, it should be interesting as he is a hot-head and he also has some of the best credentials coming into a season. This should be fun to watch from him

I dunno, I actually like it like this as it weeds out some crap ahead of time. They started off with 21 contestants, so there were obviously going to be eliminations.

I liked tom's challenge the best. It has much more application to what they are really looking for.

Thank goodness for OD as the fiancee and I already had enough to watch....and DVR.....on Wednesdays.

i also have to say, thank god jorel went home. I'm not sure I could've taken 2 dudes that have handlebar mustaches in one season. 1 is a bit much already

Somehow it was obvious from the start that some of the contestants are a lock to make it regardless of how much they mess up in that episode.

If you're a crazy person preferably with an accent -> you're IN!
That Belgium guy, the Asian model, the Japanese former banker, the guy from Hawaii, the crazy redhead with the glasses, the South African chick and crazy Italian chick, those were absolute locks in my book.
That "most hated chef in Dallas" guy was also a lock no way he was to be sent home.

I loves Wolfgang Puck's little analogies where he compares food and women. A little chauvinistic at times but still hilarious.

Yeah, those omelettes didn't look good at all. I'm pretty sure that omelettes that are browned that much won't be any creamy in the the middle at all.

I think soups is a just a mean challenge to start. It's so hard to get the balance of flavours right to the point that your judge likes it, especially not on the short amount of time. I would imagine it's hard to adjust if you're used to a special kind of broth or stock as a base of a soup. Now you have to adjust to whatever is available and tweak it the right way.

Even though, salads are easier done in a short amount of time, there's a lot of room for, what I would call, fance cooking syndrome.
Only if you emphasize your time on balancing your flavour and not get carried away by just the presentation, you will get the judges on your site IMO.

The cast looks decent, I'm looking forward to this season. Also it's time for Padme to show her hot body in the next ep!

Slanche,

Yeah, when it was like kinda cute plainish chick vs hot azn model, I was pretty sure which one was making it.

I ****ing despise browned eggs. Some of those omelets looked disgusting.

Ha, even Wolfgang's was browned a bit. Jacques Pepin would not have approved of any of those.

Guessing by crazy Italian chick, you're talking about Carla. If so, the fiancee and I were so glad to see her get through as we've eated at her place in The Tropicana and got to meet her. Sweet lady and great food.

I also did a draft this year with 2 friends. We all chose 7, and all ended up with 2 eliminated yesterday.

I ended up with Bart (Belgian guy), Carla (crazy Italian chick), John (hated old guy), Josh V (handlebar that survived), and Micah. I felt a lot better about my team before I saw the episode - now I'm nervous.

it looked like only the girl who under seasoned her omelette actually made a good one

i'm guessing the people from toms group will do the best, they seemed to have the toughest initial task

I've eaten at Chrissy's previous restaurant, and I liked what she did. It was more modern American than Filipino that she was saying in her interview

Let me see if I have this right. The people who selected the contestants are also going to be some of the judges? If so, that could lead to allegations of favoritism.

Yeah everyone ITT sure knows how to cook a better omelette than Wolfgang Puck

Watch the first half of this video to see how much Pepin would disapprove: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57afEWn-QDg

lol, I watched the same video after I made my post, because I wanted to see if he made his omelettes the way I remember. I skipped to the end, and saw a nice French omelette, and then watched the whole thing and saw the browned one. I left it because I'm stubborn, and this is the internet.

But really, I have no problem with browned omelettes. I even love ****ty diner omelettes. But if I'm on Top Chef, and I have the challenge of making an omelette for Wolfgang Puck, I think I'm making a variation on a classic French omelette. Of course I can't cook, but whatever.
