no, it's really in everyone best interest to try to keep things as civilized as possible. both parties ARE stronger if they can agree to work together - some people gather food, others go out and get supplies, some stay home to defend, etc

a devolved society is a situation none of them really want

yes, but society has devolved. While it is possible for a relatively unarmed group to survive, and by chance not get discovered and overthrown by a less civilized/more desperate band of survivors is possible, it just doesn't seem likely and happens to be one of the most boring places you could write this show into. A group that makes fairly unreasonable demands with no leverage, and a group that gives into these demands with no resistance is not the stuff that a good drama is made of.

This show has weak conflicts and even weaker, or non existent resolutions.

When you have someone as delusional as Hershel thinking the walkers are actually just "sick people" then you have problems b/c that idiot is the one in charge. He's not capable of making big decisions when he's so closed off from reality.

shooting Herschel or telling him to go to hell is still really only something you want to do when you have no other options, no matter how simpleton he is. he has a whole crew of people loyal to him that know how to work farm things, know the area, etc, and you're gonna want these people on your team

The solution wouldn't be to shoot him, it would be to just overtake his role as a leader b/c he's so out of reality. Rick tries to obey his rules even if it means leaving the farm with Lori prego. He was begging Hershel to stay. Don't even argue with Hershel.......just ****ing stay. Whats he gonna do??

Hershel is a dead man when they finally run into a real doctor (or one stumbles on the farm).

IMO, Justified and Archer are the two best shows on TV by a pretty wide margin.

Officially done with this show.

What a boring piece of crap it is. This show is supposed to be set amidst a world wide apocalypse that has caused civilization to come crashing down in a spectacular and horrifying fashion.

Does that even matter to this show? The first season was majorly flawed but you at least got the sense that they were in a world that was completely F'd.

The whole season has been them chilling at a magic farm out in the woods, complete with electricity, running water, plenty of food, fuel, and ammo, and 0 zombie threat. Every zombie danger they've encountered is basically when they have actively sought it out.

The epicness of it all is gone, it's just a bunch of morons sitting around a farm and whining EVERY EPISODE AND NOTHING HAPPENS.

I mean, in a way I guess it's realistic, in a zombie disaster a lot of people would probably flee to the woods and just camp out in the wilderness hoping it blows over. But you know what? That would make for a really, really ****ty tv show.

It's like making a movie about nuclear war and the entire thing is just 90 minutes of a guy sitting alone in his bomb shelter playing cards with his family. THAT DOESN'T MAKE FOR GOOD ENTERTAINMENT.

WTF is the point of this show?

That one dude can't be the only farm within a mile. There's a ton of advantages to living in numbers atm, but if you can't get him to agree then I move as little as possible.

end of story. it's not like they're gonna do anything other than make mean faces, as they don't even allow guns. the whole thing is just stupid. the writers are imposing silly civilian prejudices onto how a zombie apoc actually works
Yeah that's why this farm was just an enormously terrible plotline. I don't care that it was in the comics, btw, because it was probably dumb there. There's no narrative momentum in this show when the only reason anyone was in any danger this episode was because Hershel wandered off to a bar to get drunk. And then weirdly stayed at the bar instead of just taking a few bottles home.

Just watched the entire season 1 in the last couple days. Yes its a pretty awesome show, surprised I never heard of it until now. Great actors and a lot of pretty famous guest stars showing up episode to episode.

I love shane vendrel also!

Lies. If you've stuck with the show this long AND you even bothered to watch it after the break then you are clearly committed.

I'm working my way through Justified season 1 now. It's certainly not on the Breaking Bad+ tier of OMGBBQ shows, but it's definitely a consistently watchable and very well made show. The casting is, as noted, very very good. Like when you learn that TWD costs $3M an episode you're like ???? where the **** did that go, none of the actors are stars, most of the shots are just people arguing in a house that they didn't even bother turn the lights off in or get dirty for the "post-apocalypse".

Justified has like complicated location shots, every episode has at least one guest stars who you recognize. It looks expensive.

Justified also does a much much much much better job of making me learn the names of characters and their relationship.

Seriously, right now in The Walking Dead one of the plot lines is that woman who is in "a state".

I watch the show. I read recaps of the show on blogs. I post in this enormous thread.

I have no idea what that woman's name is. I have no idea why she's on the farm. It's a repeat of the Sophia search, you can't just put someone into danger and expect me to care. You need to start by characterizing them(like you did with, say, Maggie?) and then put them in danger.

at least in The Office there was a recent meta joke about how Dwight had no idea who the new girl was. the writers should recognize was the audience does

FWIW, Season 2 and so far Season 3 are much better than season 1. First half of season 1 is all over the place, then they get on track the 2nd half. But 2 and 3 are much better.
