As long as they stay at least relatively close to the comic book it should be fine. The comic is one of the great depictions of a zombie apocalypse regardless of format, tv/movies/books/etc.

The first season is only 6 episodes but the show has already been renewed for a 13 episode second season which is set to begin in February.
