The show has had consistently poor pacing, rushing along at breakneck speed and then stopping at a weird point isnt all that surprising all considered.
they usually write better season finales im not asking for a series finale.

Marathoned this yest and found it very pleasing, being at a lack of shows to watch. It felt a lot like Rome in presentation which I enjoyed. Plus vikings. Interesting to know it has some basis in fact, be it accurate or not, as I wouldn't mind doing some research. Again, cuz vikings. Agree with others of S ending being weak, but w/e. Ragnar is a straight up boss.

Looking forward to S2.

The depictions of social practices and technology seem fairly accurate. The weapons and armour are a lot more accurate than in many depictions, as long as you aren't looking for subtle difference between eighth, ninth and tenth century technology. The depictions of who is acting, and when, are less accurate.

Ragnar Lothbrok is the name of a traditional Norse storytale character that may be an amalgam based partly on several real people. The show's producers have adopted the name for a character they use as a vehicle to portray some of the development of Viking history by involving him in even more events than the traditional Norse stories do. For instance, the show has Ragnar leading the first Viking raid on England at the Monastery of Linisfarne, and then shortly thereafter becoming involved with King Ælla of Northumbria. In fact, the raid on Lindisfarne took place about 70 years before Ælla's reign. King Ælla of Northumbria was an historic figure reigning briefly in the 860's. The Sagas place Lothbrok in the ninth century and do involve him with Ælla.
Spoiler:
The Saga of Ragnar's Sons has Ælla being tortured to death by one of those sons after a shipwrecked Ragnar is captured and put to death by Ælla having him thrown into a pit of vipers. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicles claim Ælla was killed in battle against a Norse army.

The show also suggests that raiding England (and later France) was a new departure from the long-time practice of raiding eastward. In fact the raid on Lindisfarne is the first recorded Viking raid anywhere. Vikings in different regions of Scandinavia tended to trade with, raid and/or conquer different target areas. Norwegian Vikings tended to go to northern Great Britain and Ireland and the various islands north and west of Scotland. Danes tended to raid central and eastern Great Britain (and, with less success, south and western Britain) and northern France. Swedes went mainly into Russia, advancing up (and then down) rivers through the Ukraine as far as the mid-east. (There is a theory that later advances in Viking swordmaking, which surpassed what was generally available in Europe, were made possible by trading for high quality steel ingots produced in Syria.)

Then you thought he was going to be made a holy man of the Viking religion, then you thought sacrifice again, and finally he was replaced by a great and loyal warrior who believed in the Norse gods, which introduced a new angle to it, and made the episode into a meditation on life, death, religion, and even what it is to be a man.
Very well put!

Flokie killed it. Dinner scene was epic lol dual wife proposal ftw YOLO...

I'm not sure if it's just because it's running with true detective or if because it was just take a gay soap opera. But I was very very disappointed. Might not even continue watching. I will continue watching. But kinda sucked imo. and like the wife is going to be fighting against him now by the looks of things in previews... JFc....

As much as I loved the 1st season, was quite disapointed with season 2's premiere. Way too soapoperish... Hopefully they were just setting up for a solid season.

I love the show. My Norse history is subpar at best but if you dig that time period you might like Valhalla Rising which I loved. It's a very artistic and dark, yet uber violent film about a Norse warrior in 1000 AD that travels with a group of Christian warriors and he fights one on one matches til the death til he escapes. Loved the film....available on netflix US too.

Liked the 1st episode....I really dig the show and love Ragnar.

I was worried that they were going to follow the GoT example and kill Floki off. Relieved that he pulled through. He's 1/2 the reason for watching.

The brother feud was so God awful. that's the story follow through with it. The fact that he killed all those people and then Ragnar just bribed to let him off the hook is just ******ed.
