Sucks that this show is on the history channel. I feel like they're rushing through everything. I'm glad it exist but if it was on another network i feel like they would stretch the timeline out a little more.

Thought the first episode was great. "Soap opera" is a way to describe the content, but to me it set up the rest of the season just fine (lots of raiding, and whatever soap opera elements there are, they won't be among people in the same house, so it will be more like strategical betrayal/loyalty drama), was historically necessary (based on some of the spoilers that were dropped in this thread last season by LittleOldLady I figured Bjorn would go with his mother), and created the opportunity for several years to pass when the show returns for episode two, if they want to do that.

Really odd episode sequence. I'm no showrunner but seems clear that this season's 1st ep should have been last season's last ep.

Jumping 4 years ahead in the 2nd ep of a season ? Wat ?

Ragnar had a son called Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye who had a mark around his pupil that resembled a snake. So not only does it seem to be a real thing it actually happened to one of his sons IRL that the show is extremely loosely based on.

" I blame Horik more for this insult , but I think I'll attack Ragnar " .. solid.

Maybe just an easier target ?

Ragnar should have explained it wasn't his decision more adamantly. Given Borg a cut of their profits for doing nothing .. anything. These guys seem to take insults pretty seriously.

Would have done everything possible to appease him somehow.

I find myself forgiving the contrived parts of the show (although I think letting the priest die would've been a positive thing in terms of maintaining the pace of central characters dying) because I root for so many of the main players, enjoy the setting and the combat, and the way the chess pieces are moving around remains interesting.

I was thinking how the warriors from Earl Sigvard must've wondered how they would be received by Ragnar, and that once they saw how Ragnar welcomed his son with open arms they were relieved, and gave Bjorn instant badass points.

Loved it. Although it seems utterly ridiculous that they show basically a full crucifixion but censor nipples.

I thought priest was toast. Surprised he survived anyway.

Who else understood the scene with Jarl Borg and the seer?

He said something about seeing an eagle which Borg took as a good omen. Then I turned away when the palm licking happened.

That is the point. He told him what he wanted to hear by telling him nothing.

"I see an eagle above you"
"An eagle is a good sign right?"
"And you are the eagle"
"Awesome"

I think the seer omitted that he saw a dead eagle.

If i remember correctly the camera zoomed in on an eagle skull in the seers hand when the Jarl left.
