The latest one is the best episode yet. I love how we got to see Selina's killer instinct kick in by waving the layoff threat over everyone's head.

It seemed so obvious to me that nobody was going (I mean the cast is just too small, too new, and too good to lose anybody) that I thought that was really strained.

I don't think you're supposed to post huge spoilers for other shows like that.

That's still a spoiler? It happened last year! Alright alright no more spoilers, I just assumed that all of the 2+2 community has been following GoT. My apologies.

Nothing about the season finale? I thought it was one of the better episodes of the season.

As to the season overall, though, I kind of agree with Alan Sepinwall: The show is funny, but it's a little repetitive and the emptiness and darkness can make it a wearying, bleak show to watch week in week out.

I almost posted about it earlier. Basically that I didn't laugh once in the finale, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Same with a lot of the eps. The cast is great though, so I like watching them work.

And WOW Anna grew up nicely.

I laughed throughout the finale. Thought it was the best ep of the season.

Sepinwall's post is kind of eh. I kind of like that a show now is willing to be more like Seinfeld instead of glopping on sentiment in every episode like all comedies seem required to do now. That's just my sense of humor though.

Yeah I certainly don't think more sentiment would help the show. I just think there were only really two episodes-- this and "Catherine"-- where the show really seemed to maximize its potential. It was a little disappointing that the other eps were basically not quite as good variations on a theme.

my impression as well.

In the beginning the dialogue was a little too f-bomb in your face, but the series gained traction all they way to the finale. JLD is perfect in this style, and Amy who I had seen in White Collar & Covert Affairs ( but didn't put it together she was Anna Clumsky) was great, and a hottie.

I don't think the point was that it should be more sentimental, but that there were too many stretches where the jokes fell flat for his liking with nothing else there to prop it up. You might be able to get away with those stretches if the plot is intriguing or the characters are really likable, but when they're just vehicles for one liners, you need to have a more consistently high batting average.

Yeah I got that after rereading. I don't know, this show probably makes me laugh more than any TV. I guess that's subjective. It's slightly repetitive but I don't really mind (kind of similar to Curb which can sometimes be predictable but has so many great jokes and moments along the way).

I thought the finale was excellent and generally liked the season, though I still feel it is the weakest season of tv/movie I have seen from Ianucci. Ianucci never gives his characters victories, which is fine when you have 6-12 episode BBC series or feature films with complete arcs, but doesn't work in an HBO series that will presumably run for a long time. The politicking in every episode is funny and entertaining to watch, but it's exhausting to always watch our side lose.

Edit: To add to the Curb comparison above Veep needs episodes like Restaurant Grand Opening.

Friend turned me onto this show recently absolutely love it. Great to see JLD back in good comedy. Best part about this show is that even though Julia kills it she's easily the least funny character. I'm a huge fan of Matt Walsh, awesome that he has a solid recurring role now. I wonder if arrested development filming and this filming are going to be an issue for tony hale, may see less of him next season.

I had only watched the pilot ep for the longest time but watched the rest of em in the past week. Solid watch, def had some rewind moments. I never heard much buzz around this show so bumping this thread to get the word out!

Anyone catch this last night?

Wicked editing in the first scene. That was funny as hell.

The rest episode was quite solid too. Glad the show is back.

Still haven't started S3 of GOT yet. Waiting till it's over if I can, but apparently the lastest episode is going to make that REALLY hard to not get spoilers of some kind.

Enjoy this show a lot. If anyone itt hasn't seen The Thick Of It (the UK show that the writers made first) you should make that a priority. It's a top 5 comedy imo.

While an interesting sight gag, I really think that joke failed, because I have no idea what he was trying to say. Was he saying Dan's sucking the Congressman or was he saying that he wants the Congressman to suck him (Jonah)? We know Dan hates the Congressman, and he doesn't really seem to be blowing smoke up the Congressman's azz. So, maybe Jonah hates the Congressman, too. I just don't know, and that's why the joke kind of failed, while it was visually funny.

My favorite line of the episode was "Why don't you take the first bullet, and put it in your brain?".

My favorite visual was Sue giving Dan the evil eye after he asked if she had a bunch of exes. I thought the editorial timing was whack on the first part of the joke (perfect on his reaction), but Sue nailed it. I think it would have been much funnier if they had just cut back to Sue already giving him the evil eye, as opposed to her looking up and giving him the evil eye. Sufe Bradshaw is so great in this show.

I think this is a series that absolutely demands to have each episode be watched twice for full effect. There are so many jokes, and it's easy to miss something funny the first time. I also liked all of the cast additions, though I'm not sure how many of them will be around for the whole season. I thought the Dana and boat running gags (press conference stuff could have been really funny if they kept going with it) were played too often, but thought it was still a very good episode overall that I probably liked better the second time around.

Great show, but this opening episode didn't live up to standards set last season. Still really excited that its back though!
