the brilliance of the show is not her position so much as it's all the characters. almost every single character is hilarious enough to have an entire show centered around just that character.

Yeh I rewatched The Thick of It for the hundredth time recently.

I'd love Malcolm Tucker to guest on an episode of Veep, ranting and raving at everyone. They could just do a whole episode of him shouting at Jonah.

Richard T. Splatt continues to be my favorite character.

Selina: "You can't join us?"
Andrew Meyer: "I have an unofficial lunch with a big foreign donor."
Richard: "That could get us in trouble down the line."
Andrew: "He's having visa troubles so I'm gonna call our friends in the state department."
Richard: "That definitely will."

Also, Congressman Powder's "Mangos" line was definitely the biggest laugh for me.

Agreed - Richard is superb. I was encouraged overall by what I saw for most of the characters in the premiere, although hopefully there will be a bit more Kent and they won't lean too much on Catherine, Marjorie, or Andrew.

The Inbetweeners & Veep have little in common other than blue language. The forerunner of The Thick Of It/In The Loop/Veep is Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister.

Yeh Veep uses a lot of the same writers as The Thick Of It.

Quote:
The series' first four seasons featured an entirely British writing staff, consisting of Iannucci, Blackwell, Roche, Sean Gray, Will Smith, Roger Drew, Ian Martin, and Jesse Armstrong, among others,[29][30] all of whom had previously worked with Iannucci on The Thick of It.
Comedy and inept politics are clearly a universal thing.

The all British writing staff of Veep is exceptionally impressive. I see absolutely no sign Veep wasn't written by Americans. There are significant differences in British & American English, cultural references + political processes. I presume that (surely?) Americans with expertise in DC machinations edit the scripts but even so.

On the topic of British political satire I recommend Drop The Dead Donkey. Set in a newsroom & partially filmed on day of broadcast to include topical jokes. Infused with 1990s Britain cultural and political references. Don't know the best place to watch episodes online, best to find episodes like this with the contextual prologue.

at this point I think we have to consider the possibility that this show is the greatest comedy of all time.

I can't think of a show that can top it.

just absolute pure genius.

Definitely at the top. I don't believe in useless ranking but I would have a hard time picking another show more funny and consistant over 5 season.
