Is anybody watching this? I started it and I found it quite entertaining.

It is a (fake, everything is acted) behind-the-scenes look at the production of a reality-tv show which is basicly a copy of The Bachelor. If that sounds terrible to you I don't blame you but I gave it a try and find it very entertaining.

The biggest things the show does good:

*A lot of cynicism / dark humour. I sometimes feel like I'm looking at a bad Sorkin-show that Sorkin would never make .
*Like you can see above the leads are Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer! And they both do a fantastic job and have interesting characters.
*The behind-the-scenes aspect is very interesting. Anyone that watches some reality tv-shows will love this aspect of it. Or make you hate the reality tv you watch. Or both . I can't speak to how realistic everything is but aside from the expected overly dramatic bits it feels realistic to me.
*Lots of hot women . (no nudity though)

The bad:

*The plot is overly dramatic from time to time. No idea why they did this because sometimes you feel like you're watching a bad soap suddenly... It's not often but those moments are there.
*The show's target audience clearly is more women than men. I am just mentioning that since I am male and I was irritated a few times by some of the writing.

Anyone who is interested by the good and isn't too scared off by the bad should give this a chance imo .

I liked it. It pushes the "just how far will these people go to get ratings" angle a little too hard in spots (there's a mid-season plot development that is borderline despicable), but the characters, acting, and dialogue are surprisingly complex and well executed.

I never watched Roswell, but Shiri Appleby is fantastic in this. The Craig Bierko character is hilarious and feels real in all the ways you want for this type of thing. Solid recommend.

Probably not your jam, kioshk. But not really a chick show either. "Grace" is hotter than 99% of Bachelor contestants. And Shiri Appleby's character has some depth. I had no idea she could play sexy, but she does.

I do watch the bachelor so i checked it out. I quit midway though mainly cause it was way over the top. The contestants are nothing but extremely easily manipulated innocent puppets and the producers are as evil as can be who will do anything for ratings no matter how unethical or illegal. Then they beat you over the head with it every episode. Rhap did a podcast about it when it started airing you might wanna check it out http://robhasawebsite.com/how-real-is-unreal/

Just watched it.

My feelings on it are much the same as OP. Plot got a bit too dramatic at times for my liking, but I was able to stick through it mostly because of the two main female characters/actresses who both did a good job.

Granted it IS a Lifetime show...but the show I would actually compare it to most is not The Bachelor - I would compare unReal to Entourage.

Partially because one of the main characters in unReal is Dana Gordon from Entourage, and she's playing a very similar character here, which almost makes this show feel like a spinoff.

And the actual bachelor elements are minimal. Most contestants are just extras. It's almost entirely a Hollywood, behind the scenes, scamming, scheming thing.

This is on Hulu.

Just watched the first episode...liked it...not sure if I want to see a whole season of despicable people, though...

Season 1 was about the producers manipulating the contestants, which was kind of interesting to suppose that's how real shows might actually be.

Season 2 is about the producers manipulating each other. This is a huge step down in entertainment value. Don't really care about this aspect so much.

my friend is on this show!

i watched it just because of her, but i liked it so i went back and watched season 1, which she isn't even on, and still liked it.

the characters are horrific despicable people.

spoilers up to season 2 episode 6(or whatever we are on right now)

Spoiler:
i thought they were going to make applebee a victim and her ex bf a villain because he hit her. i was going to get mad at the show for having applebee ruin life after life, and she isn't even the worst villain on the show, and then make this guy a some huge villain just because he hit her. but they didn't. he was just another villain.

marti noxon is one of the writers and creators of the show. she was a writer for buffy the vampire slayer. so a lot of the dialogue is clever.

but yes, the show is over the top

I supported her before she was Hot Rachel and will again even if those philistines don't recognize greatness.

Like that show. Watched s1 for 2 days when s2 started. Its good comedy/parody show exactly that type that i like and watch Have clever dialogue, unepexted twists and a lot good looking girls so all is perfect imo.

I watched the first couple of episodes of this mainly because I know someone that was on The Bachelor and they told me plenty of stories of what it's like.

The show really matched up with her stories which was nice to see. I wasn't really into the soap opery nature of some of the story lines though. Felt like an over the top Desperate Housewives kinda thing. I've never gone back to see if it got better. I doubt it but it might be worth a binge watch.
