4 episodes on Sunday!

GF and I are staying in tomorrow night to watch the last two episodes of season 2 and Fire: Walk With Me for prep. Sunday night we will be eating donuts and cherry pie and coffee...probably spike the coffee, tho.

In Scandinavia all eps will apparently come immediately into HBO's streaming service. Not sure if this is the case in USA#1 tho.

Does lack of negative buzz mean this isn't going to be a mess? Is that how it works in tv land? Obviously most anticipated show of 2017 for uh a lot of us olds. I haven't heard **** and was super surprised its already out this weekend.

The did not release any screeners. Afaik, no critics have seen one minute of it yet.

Watch the ****ing movie before season 3 starts, you ****ing idiots who I know are reading this and have not done so and think you don't have to.

I have a friend who hasn't seen the movie and plans on giving season 3 "a short lease". Absolutely infuriating.

Ya I bought half a cherry pie from Whole Foods today. Don't spike the coffee, you need to be in tip-top mental shape!

I can't understand a post like this in this day and age. If you have cable, pay for Showtime. If you don't have cable, you have multiple options including standalone Showtime streaming (Anytime or Now or whatever) for $10-$15, Sling ($20) + Showtime, Hulu + Showtime, etc.

Don't pirate it unless you're poor.

At LEAST do a free trial or plan to sign up for just the first month and then cancel if you hate paying a monthly fee, just to get the earlier revelations seen before you're spoiled on them. I have a feeling buzz might die down considerably if and when we see Cooper come back, and if the new mystery (if any) doesn't grab people.

*Most anticipated show ever.

There's not a chance it's a mess. Lynch is a master artist. Anything you've heard from hipsters commenting on movie sites about how he's gone off the deep end is wrong. His most recent feature, Inland Empire, is a masterpiece, maybe the best film of the 21st century. And contrary to what people like to say, it has a fairly traditional narrative for around half the running time - scenes with traditional dialogue and "narrative tension" as opposed to just horrifying human-sized Rabbits with otherworldly noises in the background (but it has those too).

There is literally no misstep in Lynch's career that I can think of except I guess Dune if you're gonna count that, where he didn't have final cut.

Is there anything from the movie that you really need to know? I watched the movie years ago and vaguely remember a few parts of it but the main thing I remember about the movie is that it was bad.

Idk, there are things that happen with the Black Lodge and such that will likely be referenced or continue. Lynch has called it out specifically in recent interviews.

The movie is excellent so you should probably give it another shot with shifted expectations (not expecting the same tone as the show or to be getting "answers" or w/e). If your sensibilities don't line up with the movie/Lynch in general I wouldn't expect to like S3.

The movie is critical to understanding the first two seasons, so I don't know how you can go into season 3 without having seen it. But it is more of a horror movie than "quirky." It's quite beautiful but also incredibly tragic.

And I will predict that the season will be David Lynch at his very weirdest and opaque. He was allowed to do whatever he wanted...so be prepared!

It looks like Showtime has a free trial for Sling subscribers through the 22nd.

Please do not come in here posting Sepinwall **** (the OOTV God). Someone asked him about his expectations on Twitter today, he expects it to be "a mess" and then spoke poorly of Inland Empire. They followed up asking how many times he's seen IE, he responded "Once was enough." So, he is a plebe, do not listen to him. If you are in that boat, one of those people who think Lynch has gone off the reservation or flings **** at the wall, or you've seen IE 0.5-1 time and were too confused to try to engage, just don't even bother with the new season. It's not for you.

Or do bother, but I'd expect you to quit after a couple of episodes.

You're of course wrong about Lynch and IE, but perhaps you'll learn and grow over the next 5-30 years and can then come back to Twin Peaks with more mature eyes.

I wasn't a huge IE fan (am a lifelong Lynch fan, he's probably my favorite living director), but it sounds like I need to watch it again. My expectations may also have been unrealistic after spending 5-6 years waiting for him to do something after the masterpiece that was Mulholland Drive.

Either way I have super high expectations for this as well and couldn't care less about Sepinlawl.

Yea try it again. There is also a bonus disc that you have to get your hands on at some point. It has a 75-minute film made up of "deleted scenes", but it's not just deleted scenes; it's an excellent second film that actually helps to logically explain the main film. In addition to other things on there, there's a 30-minute documentary that shows Lynch working on IE, and it makes it crystal clear that he's an artist who knows what he's doing, not just filming random garbage and cobbling it together.

(Already posted all about this in The Lounge)

The attitude of someone like a Sepinwall, a "film" critic who claims to respect Lynch, being dismissive of IE with one viewing and no desire to ever try again, is something I cannot abide.

A while ago there were many posts indicating folks' intent to rewatch. I only managed to rewatch the pilot and second-to-last episode (hopefully finishing the final episode tonight) but while I would have liked to watch more, I'm happy I at least treated myself to some re-watching.

3 and 4 will be available streaming right away.

I have not rewatched anything nor have I even watched The Missing Pieces yet (had a little mishap where DeepDiscount.com accidentally shipped me Roseanne: The Complete Series). I may just try to hit the finale tonight if I don't have time for TMP.

The main problem is I don't want to watch them while it's light out, and I had other plans last night and tonight.

Lynch said he did not rewatch, FWIW.

A little late for this now, but definitely watch The Missing Pieces (on the 10-disc Blu-Ray set) if you can. In addition to more standard (and not great) deleted scenes that were deleted for a reason, there's quite a lot of new (deleted) stuff surrounding the Black Lodge and its inhabitants. It addresses Cooper being stuck, and there's a direct epilogue to the series.

I wish I had watched it 6-12 months ago, or even before the return was announced.
