dude they were playing with dolls.. one of them had no clothes on. You're making a leap that they were re-enacting a gang bang on top of your leap that they even saw one.

wtf, the arrangement of the dolls was this:

There was a naked doll in the circle of 4 or 5 guys. There was a guy doll in a state of undress about to get on top of the naked doll. What do you think this is depicting?

As an example, pulp fiction (rape scene) came in -94. And by the age of 7-9 i sure had seen some sick nightmare inducing movies. But then again i had 3 older brothers and a huge age gap, these kids not the same. so i am assuming it isnt without cause they did this scene, however i am not sure of the reason yet but im mostly leaning to the random "depth-artistic-movie-dude-feels" over some sickening gangrape witnesses story brewing

I also saw another "plausible" explanation for the scene, which is that it could have been cops investigating a crime scene. If that was what was intended it was a very ham fisted example of that. Either way, Hart has to ask his kids what that was about, and it didn't appear he was going to (good character development). I could have sworn the doll looked like it was getting ready to get on top of the naked doll, but who knows if I remembered that wrong.

This show has infinite possibilities. ****ing love it!
Yeah but the thing is that Woody looks like the exact same age present day as he does in the past. He's supposed to be passing for mid thirties in the 1995 segment and he just doesn't at all. They should have either made him like mid/late 40s in 1995 or cast a different actor.

Yeah, I'm sure they wrote this scene in to foreshadow the bombshell that the girls surreptitiously got into someone's VHS collection during a sleepover

Apparently one of the girls can be heard saying, "it was a car accident" as WH walks up to their room. So it was supposed to be a crime scene I guess. Obviously tho, the first cop to report took off all her clothes and raped her before anyone else could get there.

Also, maybe the girls saw a gang rape maybe they didn't. But those boy dolls are clearly getting ready to gang rape Barbie and it's not unreasonable to point that out.

When Woody and MM walk into the dilapidated church, did anyone else notice the owl watching over them at first?

0% the kids were acting out gang rape. They were recreating a crime scene Woody worked and that's why he had a pondering type look as he considers the impact of his work on his kids.

Just watched ep 1 and 2. Hbo hits another home run it seems. Incredible.

yes i did. at the very end of the episode when the camera lifted/panned up out/over the church i figured the owl would be shown sitting on one of those beams but it didnt happen. was a nice touch though

After looking at goofyballer's picture that looks like kids recreating a scene from a car accident to you, or how cops would be at a crime scene? I mean, come on, that's clearly depicting a gang rape.

Lagtastic, did you miss the point where Woody basically says he never brings his work home? That's why he lives his effed up life outside of his home life, to basically shelter them, and he doesn't want to think about work at home.

Again, anyone thinking that's not depicting a gang rape needs to re-evaluate. What's debatable is where the kids saw it.

who said it looked like a car accident? I didnt see the barbie corvette so of course it couldnt have been a car accident. And why do you keep saying a gang rape? Why not consenting group sex?

Man, I wish HBO would get with it and release all the episodes at once. I would have blown through this series in 2-3 days tops. The characters are really intriguing so far. Plus the music has been badass.

Releasing all the episodes at once is such a dumb dumb dumb model. Netlix shouldn't have done this, releasing episodes once a week builds buzz and makes for a more sustainable network. HBO has new episodes of some good TV show every single week, that's an outstanding model moving forward and they would be totally ******ed to change that.

when woody is walking towards the door the girls can be heard saying things like "died in an accident" "how?" "in a car accident"

there's some ambiguity in what they are talking about (most likely MM's daughter) and how the dolls are shown. the dolls are clearly arranged in a way that woody saw and we see as resembling either a gang rape in progress or a woman that has been raped and murdered, but woody is in denial about the effect his job has on his family (clinging to the belief they are his innocent/wholesome security blanket and it's a one way street) and probably chooses to believe he's just seeing the dolls that way.

the scene is clearly meant to further illustrate that he is starting to fail as a parent, because he hears them talking about something disturbing, sees the dolls set up like that and doesn't intervene, coupled with the dinner scene from e1 where the girls were a little too curious to hear about what it's like to shoot someone. their dad is a murder police, there is a serial killer in town and he's not sitting them down for a talk about it because in the face of all of the devastation and ruin he is seeing, while having MM for a partner who is uncomfortably comfortable it all, he needs to cling to their innocence (this is also why he overreacted to the underage prostitute).

woody is sposed be like 35-40 in 1995 and 52-57 in 2012 right? don't see how it's that far off. they just aren't portraying him as being overly traumatised by the last 15-20 years, whereas MM has been ravaged by his openness to the true nature of things.

That scene looks like a gang rape depiction to me. Seabeast has a good post about a plausible answer to it.

Anyway, the young hooker they interviewed was the hot Amish girl form Banshee, this show certainly has a primo lineup of women.
