I'm thinking she should get a pass on the "no 2 years in a row" rule.

Lawrence should have been in this year and Daddario should be in next year.

Re: True Detective......more HBO awesomeness

Cant believe there will only be 8 episodes. Feels like for a show which moves at this pace they could have at least stretched to 10. Or even just an extra 2 hours of Daddario naked or something would do.

While the acting is top notch. Got to give credit to the screenwriter. Apparently same guy wrote every ep. Has a great way with words, especially on the MM monologues.

Wow is this show good! I predict that no TV show since Twin Peaks has taken us deeper into the heart of darkness than this show will.

I would like to see DEMAND a spinoff of Cohle's time as HIDTA deep-undercover narco! Maybe in one of the next seasons? MMs facial expressions when he's hallucinating are unbelievable.

My favourite quote this episode: "Your mom still alive?" - "Maybe."

Dudd: Very cool, I noticed the name, but didn't even consider that.

All: So jealous of Woody Harrelson's character. Michelle Monaghan w/ Alexandra Daddario on the side is about as good as it gets.

when i was watching the episode, i assumed the girls were reenacting a scene from a crime that WH was working on. maybe the girls saw some of their dad's crime scene photos or something like that.

i suppose it's possible they witnessed a rape, but i think it's more likely that were playing detective like their father.

Re: True Detective......more HBO awesomeness

have any of u guys seen kids show these days or music videos on regular cable? girls walk around with hardly any clothes on all the fkn time and guys chase them around... who knows what game they were playing or what they were re-enacting (i agree it was really odd) but unless their parents have a bunch of Daddy's cop buddies over to nail his wife with him, where on earth would they have witnessed a gang bang? i mean... think about it, it's quite the leap to just assume that.

TGM,

I also thought something like that as opposed to them witnessing a gang rape, which I think is a pretty odd leap to make from that scene.

Didn't they mention something about parents dying in a car crash? Or was that a different scene?

Touch,

Agreed. Also I'm so impressed by the difference in the past/present MM characters (of course much of that is costume, makeup, production stuff as well as acting).

The MM character is pure greatness. You can tell he's a great detective and his own man.

The writing is top notch and the cinematography is superb.

As much as I'm impressed by the apparent age difference between past and present MM I am disappoint by Woody's "transformation". If anything he looks younger in the present because he has a more flattering haircut.

At 52 I think that Woody is too old to really play the 30ish character that past Woody is supposed to be. It's much easier to play older than younger.

I think there's a reason for the differences in appearances in the future. It's clear with MM's character he went through some tough times as a result of this case and really got to him as a person. With woody it's clear the impact/aftermath wasn't as damaging to him. He probably just moved on to the next case while it stuck with MM

This show has infinite possibilities. ****ing love it!

Re: True Detective......more HBO awesomeness

wow everything about this show is amazing so far imo. two incredible actors who i've always thought rocked big time. also love the setting in the stretched out warm southern areas etc. gives it a more bleak/dark atmosphere than the usual urban police stories. camera work and music are great. just wow. one of the GOAT contenders??

and yes, dem tittays!

Hart makes it very clear he leaves his professional life at work, and it never comes home with him, so there should be absolutely no scenario where they might have stumbled upon some case file. Also, there wouldn't be pictures of an incident like that portrayed in that exact way. In fact, he's trying to use his home as a complete escape from the horrors he witnesses in his every day job, and it was a very important thing he got across in this episode (as misguided as his escape attempts are).

I don't know how you *can't* make the leap that the kids witnessed something horrific. It's pretty bad that he didn't at least ask the kids about it, and I think that means more for his character's general apathy than it does to bad writing. Again, this is 1995, and I don't have any idea why you'd think that these 7? and 9? year old kids could re-enact something like that without having personally witnessed it.
