I'm all about this being an ongoing miniseries with fresh talent, but of a similar caliber. This is the evolution of GOAT tier television imo. It's hard to talk about this without including spoilers for other shows, so I'll be vague-- but there have been several top tier shows who had big, typically silver screen, actors who brought in the show, but weren't around all that long. They know they can't guarantee they'll have them for multiple seasons, so it's best to write around it. Now with True Detective, the whole format is setup so that they can attract GOAT talent for a GOAT show.

This is precisely why I think The Bridge fell apart. They had a great miniseries concept, but felt they needed to force it into a multi-season format.

oh for some reason i thought the missing child case was an old unsolved case not something recent. if she had been recently abducted that obv makes more sense.

you should check out into the furnace. the movie itself is pretty unremarkable, but Woody's performance was phenomenal.

also, dunno why but don't feel like MM is gonna bang Woody's wife. woody is def banging that chick that came to the station, but didn't get the feeling that MM's character would sleep with his partners wife. I could obv be way off tho.

Unremarkable as in crappy? Cause if it's decent, but nothing that hasn't been done a bunch, I'll check it out anyway.

And I don't think MM is going to bang the wife either. I do think that she'll try to bang him, but he'll back away.

I think I'll be disappoint if MM is the killer but quite pleased if Woody is.

it's not crappy, I just had such high expectations going in i was a lil let down.
still think it's worth seeing. all the performances are really excellent. had a similar feel to winter's bone but not as awesome, and the whole movie kept feeling like it was building to something epic then never got there.
was def better then most Hollywood trash I just have high standards (but keep in mind I consider dumb n dumber a masterpiece).

with a show this intelligent I would be surprised/let down if either one of them turns out to be the killer.

Depends on how they do it. I have a hard time thinking it could turn out good with MM being the killer but I think it could be great if Woody is the killer.

I would bet on it not being MM.

But they set it up for us to think that at least the MM interview is an interrogation in the first episode. I agree that it won't come out of left field but both these guys are in play as the killers imo.

Hahahahaha I thought the same thing.

Very good episode it reminds me of some of the really good film noir that had its settings in the 30's and 40's even though this wasn't that time period. I can't wait to see where they go and what it is ultimately about given that the show runner says he had no interest in serial killers.

Did that girl disappear from the area where they found the victim, or from near the victim's last known address?

Rewatching: MM knows it's an interrogation during the ten dollar bill blowing beer scene and is testing.

And in the chicken coop MM's reaction to seeing the straw thing is genuine surprise, Woody's reaction could be stunned shock, as in "Oh **** I left THAT here wtf!!!"

i dont think it's a recent occurence...99% sure that was in the older sequence when both of em were still detectives.

I think it's an older case from ~5y ago maybe (as in 5y earlier to Dora Lange case).

Really liked this first ep, everything about it, the way it was shot, acting, story etc.

The child was abducted 5 or 6 years prior. Her mother was a ****up and the father had left the area so when the mom called it in the police assumed it was likely the dad made off with the girl to a more stable environment out of state. Then shortly after the mom ran off with some guy so it was never followed up.

I think MM started digging around the area for related cold cases in earnest when they went to Lester Freamon and he recognized the stick teepee thing from the scene as something his Aunt taught kids to make from his childhood. It was some kind of voodoo or whatever so MM assumed a geographic component was more likely, which then led him to the girl.

I was starting my nightly Sopranos and it showed some upcoming scenes for TD. Looks like the dead girls X has more, shows MM with a syringe, and some other awesome stuff. I k ike others was initially kind of let down even though it was what I expected....I knew they had to build the characters otherwise we would be like WTF.
