I thought season one was clearly better. MM and WH were more compelling leads than the ones in S3.

S1 was plenty consistent up until the finale. I have S1 and S3 roughly on a level, but I'd have S1 significantly higher if I hadn't felt the ending was such a huge anticlimax.

Re: True Detective......more (or less) HBO awesomeness

besides the comment about it being COMPLETELY boring, I see where you guys are coming from.

I still stand by my post but also take note that coming into season 3 I thought it was gonnabe a HUGE letdown, the trailer seemed super bad with them showing the time elapses and I am not the biggest ali fan altho hes growing on me. dorf did well too.

Chris felt portions of ep 4,5 and 6 on s1 felt super weird to me in terms of being either raggedly paced or just minute gapses that ddin thok me as much as the previous eps but thats prolly e, still on the same level as 3 becuase of what i mentioned and could easily nudge it ahead of 3.

Season 1 had that dark gritty atmosphere though that we just dont get anymore unfortunately (last one was sharp objects)

"I'd be a son of a ***** if I did that to you" I think was one of the lines. As far as we saw, he never talked about his time in Vietnam, he just buried all that too.

The last scene doesn't have any narrative or character point as far as I'm aware, it's just an echo of the central theme of the season, which is how hard it is to run away from the past and how it tends to haunt people. Figurative haunting in the case of Roland, Julie, Lucy, Tom and others, and both literal and figurative haunting in the case of Wayne. It's like the tonic cadence at the end of a piece of music that wraps things up and gives a sense of finality. That's how I took it, anyway.
ppl snap back at their SO´s for daddyissues, being in ****ing nam as a lone ranger killing tons of ppl in the silence of the night is gonna **** you up he was literally John Rambo but he was a functional human being on a very high level. Good at his job, maintained a relationship with a v beautiful woman who on top of it wasnt what i would say a needy woman that cant manage life without a man.

That said, I see your point but I am really thinking your underplaying the psychological mess 95%+ of all ppl returning from 'nam doing what he did would be in and you also try to make him a man of our decade. hes not. Him not being supercool with talking about his feelings and **** in the 80ths as a uneducated man with a upbringing in a VERY poor household isnt a stretch to me. He had to learn from a very young age not to be weak(yaya talking about feelings isnt weakness but in his time of era and surroundings it is).

Decided to start rewatching season 1, haven't seen it since it originally aired. Still great, even though I already know the ending will be a letdown.

And better writing. S3 was good, but pretty depressing to me.

Re: True Detective......more (or less) HBO awesomeness

S3 was really good, and had a super "I may as well be digging in an old outhouse dirt ending." If you don't know what that means, in the old days an out house was a hole you pooped in, then it was filled in. What this show was digging up some dirt to plant a rose only to find a pile of pooooooooo in that spot that you were digging in.

FAN****INGTASTIC!!!!
