Can I just say that Hays wife is sexy AF and seems to be a dirty bird. Can't quite figure out why her sexuality is so in your face as it relates to the plot. But good lord she is a sexy woman.

Seems that type of overt sexuality would have been a bit odd in southern 1980 tho

They should've let me write this script. They're getting bogged down way too much.

On The Ringer's aftershow with Chris Ryan and Jason Concepcion they talked about Mrs. Purcell's crying fit and pointed out that
Spoiler:
she said "kids are supposed to laugh" and this was something that was in the ransom note.
I completely missed this. Did anyone else notice this?

I recall her saying that but don't recall the note.

Maybe we were supposed to draw a connection, like she really took it to heart after reading the note and it's been eating her, but the show did a bad job of making the connection explicit?

Fwiw the note says

Do not Worry
Julie is in a good place and safe
the children shud laugh do not let go

I wouldn't mind this episode too much if this was a 12 episode season, but we've seen half the episodes now and we've basicly only been teased in all 3 storylines.

Julie being revealed on the camera was a good scene though.

I didn't mind the first 3 episodes but E4 got me kind of tilted how much of a copy of S1 this is in some scenes. The execution was significantly worse in E4, too. Still hoping this was "all prologue" and next episode plot starts moving fast.

Interview chick hot too. The wife has already explained she did some crazy **** in California, whether that's being in a Manson like cult, or just banging a bunch people, she's described herself as free.

Wife is sexy as hell and interview girl has a perfect face. Let season 1 these 2, shall we..... Apparently, the laptop she’s sitting next to has Rust and Cole on the screen.

What days are these epis coming out? Is it 2x a week? I'm in for any ending that is not "Amelia killed/kidnapped so she could write a crime book."

I would recommend you wait until all they episodes have aired, and then watch the last episode. If the ending is to your liking you can then go back and watch the rest of the episodes.

Yes she is incredibly sexy. Have not seen her in anything before, but wow she's hot. That scene in the restaurant was dull but she looked so good I didn't really mind it.

I still think the Roland character is far more interesting than Hays and the show is better when he's on screen. Hays is a very dull character - in Ali's defense the script isn't giving him much to work with.

Spoiler:
As to the theory the wife did it, why would she kidnap a girl and then stay married to the cop for 10 years? Where is the girl during this time? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I am leaning towards "the case brought them together and then drove them apart", over "the wife did it".

My sense is that it has something to do with the chicken plant, since they bothered to have that scene there. Maybe an injured worker bought the dolls for the guy who runs it?

Yeah, I enjoy the show much more when Roland is on the screen. I have no interest in Hayes and his family drama.

Sundays. The first week there were two episodes but every other week there will just be one.

This week's episode was just ok, agree with others that it was too boring

Spoiler:
Getting serious vibes after this episode that Clayton's theory is in fact correct and the wife, if not a sociopathic supervillian, is heavily involved somehow

you gotta figure with it not happening in ep 4, ep 5 is going to feature the first violent shootout/explosion or something that indicates someone ain't happy about an investigation etc.

I seem to be against the grain in that my favorite episodes so far have been 2 and 4 - they have the kind of slow burn narrative I enjoy. I am a bit concerned, however, that we're now halfway through the season. I hope it's not a rush job reveal at the end.

Is not the show about creating a new trope whereby a detective with dementia solves a crime?

Judging by the ending at the trash man's place yes I think that is a safe bet. I wonder if Hayes tries to help out trash man, shoots some of the white power guys and that puts him in the doghouse with the prosecutor/police department

Of course something has to happen - the white cop has a limp in the 1990 era, so I assume (ala season 1 of The Missing - great show if you haven't seen it) that we learn in the past how that happened.

Watched ep5 today, was ok. I’m not invested in the show nearly as much as I was after the first two episodes
Claytons theory confirmed in this ep, seemingly, but in a strange way. The aha moment wasn’t really that linking in my eyes and I guess based on the last scene he thinks the wife was just sent the note to comfort the father?
