Oh my god.

I'm seriously upset at how terrible that was.

Didn't even think np could make it that bad on purpose.

Gross ew

What the hell was Holloway saying before the orphan went nuts on him about Caspere's kids? I was struggling to understand wtf they were talking about then AAAAHHHH STAB STAB STAB

I would love to watch the True Detective alternate universe that took place from Vinci PD's point of view. Following the party scene where Holloway watches (minus the drugged out filter) Rachel McAdams go nuts on a guard and run away, Burris is chilling in a SUV with a bunch of dudes that have machine guns playing cards or some **** outside ginger kid's school and look up all of a sudden and say "holy ****, that moron actually showed up here!"

Oh, another random question - how are we supposed to believe the Mexicans caught up with VV? Did the dudes (Armenians?) who gave him the Audi sell him out? Because get the **** out if we're supposed to think he's just randomly driving around LA and they caught up to him.

Well that was ass. This season reminds me of a grand theft auto video game kind of - the talking scenes make no sense and only serve to string a you to the next action scene. Not to mention the WOAT plot, many discarded/ meaningless story lines and I could go on.

Bezzerides obviously the TD tho duh

so VV tells the chick with the scar he's signing over the bar to her.
then the chick with the scar tells ani that VV gave her the money to buy the bar and never asked for it back what am I missing?

I'm honestly at a loss for how season 1 could be so great n season 2 could be this awful.
I mean this was truly horrendous.

He killed his own father. BAHAHAHAHA, or at least his sister's father (though it sounds like they were both his kids). And then Caspere probably slept with her. Lenny is an apt name.

I heard that's how it was originally shot, but HBO didn't think there were enough hero shots (or heroes shot). So, they re-shot, and the original way is going to end up on the deleted scenes of the season 2 Blu-ray. They actually shot the reverse side of the whole story, and played this version as a troll of the season 1 fans. The other side will be on the Blu-ray, but you'll have to pay $100 to get the real season.

As sad as I am to say it, it seems the only reason the Mexicans were in the story was so that NP could have the Mexican stand off line. The name of their cartel was "Deus ex Machina".

So his kid just randomly carries around the Police Retirement Plastic statue to PE?

and since when do kids at PE have a bench to play scrabble?

and velcoro just randomly knows he is at PE?

And the cop goons are just waiting for him?

THIS HAS TO BE SOME KIND OF LEVEL.

He was not killed by his superiors. Your theory isn't "awful", it's literally about a different show, I think you don't remember how the shootout went down. They lit up another cop first, then shot everyone, there's no way they were like, told to make sure to kill Dixon by his bosses.

Basically, you tied yourself into knots by imagining that his death was part of a plan.
lolololololololol

Love the scene where Crazy Afro explains everything they did to Velcoro.

I *think* there was a line the Mexican guy threw out there, something like "where did the Armenians get their stuff?" And I think that was a reference to the guys Frank got the Audi from working for the Mexicans? But really not sure

Finale kept me entertained. All I can ask at this point. I still have no idea who the orphans are or why she just sent the one away who could have testified everything.

I go back to my original interpretation of the title (minus the stupid "who's the true detective? meme).

The show is supposed to be 1950s style corner store newsstand true crime crap. Full of unctuous melodrama.

Except that some elite performances(and direction) in season one that led us all to believe that the show something more than it was ever intended to be.

The show was never supposed to be art. It was always supposed to be like a trashy novel. It's almost enjoyable if you approach it that way.

Or maybe I'm just rationalizing why I wasted some much time watching.

The first 10 minutes were ponderous. Really bad.

I thought the way VV died was excellent. His (possibly) fatal choice to defend the diamonds. The way the Mexicans didn't explicitly tell him they'd just murdered him as they hopped into their vehicles. The pan-out to the vast desert that told us he was dead even as he began walking confidently toward the horizon. Earlier, when he was driving away from the Armenians, I got to thinking about "criminal's code" and how it was a legit thing, but how, similar to a gambler's code, you only have to break it once, at the right time, to really reward yourself and screw the other party over. VV seemed to have a strong criminal's code. But I get why the Armenians bowed to the pressure of the cartel.

I thought the ending had flaws, and the unfolding of the case in previous episodes had many flaws, but I was left feeling (only at the very end) that there was an intelligent design behind it. Not a good design, but an intelligent design, perhaps weakened as much by swagger as it was by not spending enough care on the scripts. I thought the show could've ended just as nicely with the montage of Tony C becoming mayor and the ribbon-cutting for the rail line. Three somewhat secondary characters (and a baby) beginning a completely new journey in Venezuela was one last bit of swagger before the season closed.
