the only thing that would tilt me more than either MM or Woody being the killer is if ZOMG MM's estranged twin brother did it.

I worry that I have the AIDSy WH isn't old enough diatribes in my head, but are we certain that WH and MM are being interviewed during the same time period? Obviously, its by the same two detectives, so it wouldn't be significantly apart in time period. But has there been any reference that has specifically placed the WH interview at the time of the discovery of the new body?

found it really odd when Maggie calls Cohle and says "hey it's me" I guess they've been talking a lot more than what we've seen.

Loved the scene in Woody's house with sweaty MM there talking to the wife when Woody walks in. Also the last thing with LeDoux in the mask, reminded me of that classic Bigfoot video. Monstrous.

In Ep 1 at the beginning, there was on on-screen graphic stating it was 2012 for both interviews. Rust is April 26, 2012; Marty is May 1, 2012.

I was thinking about this too. Because in the room where mm is being interviewed, there's a couple old typewriters behind him. Could possibly be like 5 or 10 years before the woody interviews.

why would MM need to borrow a lawnmower when he lives in a studio apartment?

Brilliant writing. It would be hard to simultaneously bring out and destroy the underlying foundation of what religion is really built on more succinctly and simply than this.

You can't "mow the lawn" without a lawnmower.

I think they're both phenomenal. Woody talking in the present day about how he thinks Rust needed a family and how it gives you boundaries as it cuts back to him steaming out of Daddario's apartment was perfect. MM has a much more interesting character to play with all of Cohle's musings on existence.

Woody is much more real to me. I still like MM more but Woody is catching up.

After rewatching Ep2 the other night I'm thinking that Rust is actually responsible for his daughters death. He tells the detectives something like:

"we lived on a bend in the road - she was in the driveway on her trike..."

Then he stops abruptly just as he's about to continue and changes the subject. Felt to me he was telling the story from a first person point of view.

I think he's wracked by guilt, not just grief.

Also in the episode we had Woody drunk running over a little girl's bike. That's what MM did maybe?

Yeh I was wondering that. Personally I thought it looked like Daddario, although the blind date would make more sense the way they mixed the two scenes. I've also read people thought it could have been Woody's (ex) wife.

I don't see how the dead body pictures could be anyone that has interacted with Marty or Cohle. Cohle was looking at those crime photos while he is working the case, everyone is still alive at that time. They aren't flashing back within the flashbacks.
